  1. I'm fascinated by our OF'ers not named Braun. Flores: 551 OPS Kirk: 721 OPS Broxton: 441 OPS Elmore: 595 OPS Wilkins who is sort of an OF: 100 OPS For the all the comments we give Kirk (and rightly so), he is Babe Ruth compared to Flores and Broxton. The good news is the FO realized this and made our last two first round picks OF'ers. The bad news is neither guy is hitting down in A ball. We need to catch a break.
  2. Chris Sale scratched from his start, I assume for a trade. The dominoes are starting to fall.
  3. Will Smith and Luc for Bregman. Does Houston make that deal?
  4. Thanks. Fascinating read. It does show we are on the right track for the caliber of players we expect back for Luc.
  5. Bradley and Aiken plus a sweetener for Luc makes sense. I'd want Mejia because Nottingham isn't going to catch at the MLB level and I don't have a good feel for the guys we just drafted. Smith and JJ can bring back a big package by themselves based on the reliever market and teams copying the Royals model
  6. Nah. They also signed Beltre thru 2018. Gallo isn't the guy. Think Mark Reynolds or Russel Branyon, not Dunn. He's a better trade for Smith than Luc.
  7. Gallo is 22 and playing at AAA this year and last . If he was the guy he would be up now in Arlington as they have a huge need for a guy like he is supposed to be. They know something people here don't. Guys that's a huge red flag. Would I take him? Yes as I value HR hitters in a big way. As the primary piece back from Luc? No. He is far from a sure thing, and the Rangers agree, and we just gave away a sure thing in terms of MLB HR capability, so picking him up doesn't make sense.
  8. Gallo isn't even the guy the Rangers are turning to to replace Prince. You folks might want him but the Rangers who are in the middle of a pennant race do not. Davis has the most HRs in the majors since last August. He is a far superior MLB HR hitter to Gallo, and even the Rangers agree. If we are a team that would want a Gallo as a centerpiece of a Luc trade, than surely we would have kept a Davis. We don't and we didn't.
  9. Exactly. id roll with our best non prospect young guy where we don't care about the control clock and move on from Kirk.
  10. Because Davis is no good. Davis is an elite home run hitter. Gallo may or may not be an elite HR hitter. If we are building around plus plus power Davis fit that role. I'm not arguing trading away Davis, though we didn't get much for him, but he is already the player Gallo only projects to be. The point is Gallo doesn't fit the profile of the veristle obp only guys Stearns has looked at so far. It is also a red flag he wasn't the first choice to replace Prince.
  11. I agree. If a guy like Gallo is our type of player why did we pretty much give away Davis?
  12. I'm jealous of how Atlanta has built their farm system so quickly and so cleverly. I wish we were as smart. I know youre a big fan of our FO but let's face it, so far Atlanta is playing chess and our guy is playing checkers. Hopefully the Luc trade will be the splash move to get us jump started. As to acquiring Luc, that would only make sense if they think their young pitching coming up as 90s Braves capability and they want a veteran catcher to work with who can also provide some pop in a line up that could use it. And if not, so what, they can flip him dowm the road. I still see the Indians being the best fit.
  13. Nottingham is a very low probability to stay at C. His bat would have to be Schwarber level to even think about putting up with his D at C. I'd think they will put him at 1B pretty soon so he can focus on hitting more. He is young at AA so he has that going for him but so far he's not much of a player. I'd put him in the Kodi category where you don't write him off because of their cost and they are still quite young, but they do need to produce to be truly considered top 10 prospects and not just guys we hope are prospects.
  14. After the Luc trade we should have two new prospects of our top 5 guys like we did with the Astros deal last year.
  15. Im still OK with the trade because there was no room for Sardines on the roster either. The question is that if you remove Flores, who to do you replace him with. Besides bringing up Broxton, i don't see any better option right now. Sardines is a marginal player true. Flores is literally a zero tool player. I get trading Sardines but I have no idea why anyone would trade for Flores let alone give him 250 plate appearances on a major league team.
  16. Flores is amazing. Anytime you can put out a corner OF with a 280 slugging you have to give him 250 plate appearances so far. You just can't keep that guy out of the lineup. No he is not being developed for anything. If he is the answer I would love to know the question. As for Kirk I am assuming he is there to be a cheap tank team CF.
  17. It is amazing they are still playing Kirk and Flores this much. I get rebuilding and bad baseball but no one is trying to develop those two for any future plan.
  18. Quality is always better than quantity.
  19. But it's pretty much the only thing he does well. If you're going to be limited to one skill, that's a pretty good one to have.
  20. We will know a lot more based on the level and age of talent brought back this trading deadline. If it's AA types they will look at 2018/2019. If it's rookie league it's 2021.
  21. Not sure I buy comparing Stearns to theo. Theo wouldn't have the Cubs in this position without all those high draft picks and the Cubs checkbook. Stearns is going to have to be way better than Theo
  22. Great post. Thanks for all the info.
  23. True he has said all along that he wants to play for a contender but look at their minor league system. Now that is a team that knew how to rebuild. They could be really interesting really quickly.
