  1. The record for most errors in a game by an OFer is 5, which has been done numerous times. However, it hasn't happened since 1902. Not sure where to find the modern era figures on it. That is pretty impressive. Especially in 4 innings. Mitts in 1902 were a bit different.
  2. I'm just looking at the MLB at bat app. Kirk has 3 errors? All kidding aside is that a record for a OFer?
  3. That's right. That makes sense. My dad has alluded to it but I was too young to read between the lines. Pun intended. Too bad for Porter. I forgot he died in 2002.
  4. Thats a great post. I love anything Brewer history. Porter must have had something going on behind the scenes because we really dumped him to the Royals for not much. A classic quarter for two nickels trade. Simmons was my first blush best catcher though he really wasnt a great defensive player but he was a really quality hitter. That said, Luc is our best by far. I will be sad to see him go, though he clearly needs to be traded at the break to help the future of the team.
  5. The hole is difference makers. We have a lot of "guys" but very few that are plus plus tools guys. We seem to keep acquiring OF'ers without power, starting pitchers with at the most #3 ceilings, older players, and light hitting middle infielders (other than Diaz). Luc is a bonafide blue chip trade asset and we need to leverage that into some guys who are must follow types on the links report. We have too many robins and not enough (or any) batmans.
  6. Since we drafted Braun 2006: Jeffries 2007: LaPorta 2008: Lawrie 2009: Arnett 2010: Covey 2011: Jungmann, Bradley 2012: Roache, Coulter 2013: N/A 2014: Kodi 2015: Clark 2016: Ray
  7. Change of scenery trade. However, this further highlights why we must capitalize on this crazy reliever market as these guys are so unpredictable year over year. If he traded away Thorny, Smith (though he is killing his value now) and JJ all at the deadline I wouldnt be upset. The market is red hot so why not take advantage?
  8. Nottingham isnt going to be a catcher, at least not a very good one. He is likely to set records for passed balls and errors. I think the Brewers are trying their best but he seems like a future 1B to me. That is not to say the Luc trade needs to bring an elite catching prospect back but it would be nice if at least one of the pieces is a catcher in the various trades. Other than middle infielder, I don't see a single position where we are too stacked to eliminate that from consideration in these trades. We really need impact pitching whether it is from Luc or the bullpen guys to go at the deadline due to the insane reliever market. Im fine with Stearns being quiet. Anytime a GM speaks these days anyhow its usually misdirection, so its all speculation until they are in the final stages of talks.
  9. Yes, we're getting way OT here, there are threads in Minor League forums where farm system can (and is) discussed. I was guilty there jumping to the state of minors as in part reason why we had to capitalize on the sellers market of deadline deals due to the system not producing any elite prospects. A minor league system is not graded off how many Scooters and Davis you produce but rather how many Brauns and Fielders you produce. And I will leave it at that. I will stick to Lucroy here of course, but there are only so many combinations of Texas and Cleveland proposals we can make.
  10. It's not where we thought it would be other than Hader. There are some nice players but there is no Braun and Fielder. The last 3 first round draft picks all look pretty bad. No, the system is not fine. I'm assuming this trade deadline will being back some real difference makers like other teams are doing.
  11. So far he has been really bad. I see they have him in CF. Anyome have any idea how he looks defensively?
  12. Agreed. He is going for a big return. There is not way a guy like him doesn't bring back a game changing deal with 1.5 years of control plus a comp pick.
  13. The Indians last world championship was what, 1948? Yeah, no one is untouchable.
  14. With it being such a sellers market out there, I disagree that we don't need to make a trade. Good players are going for massive returns and we need to capitalize on this. If the farm system was where we had all hoped it would be, I would think we could afford to be more selective. As it is stands now, none of our guys have made the jump to our next wave of Braun and Fielder so we wont be set up for a positive future without picking up some elite talent.
  15. Young righty Hansel Rodriguez constitutes the return to San Diego, along with cash considerations, Jon Heyman 18th ranked prospect in the Jays organization. Interesting to see the money side of the trade though.
  16. This is interesting. Aiken wasn't a "real" first pick in the draft guy anyhow due to the underslot plans for him.
  17. I get the limited number of innings which Chapman will end up pitching, but this move was made for the playoffs, not the regular season. He not only becomes their closer, it pushes back everyone else an inning, making their 6th/7th/8th inning specialists even a tougher group to face. Baseball in regards to bullpen usage and importance has changed dramatically, even more so in the playoffs where having multiple top notch starters is no longer needed to advance far in the playoffs so long as a team has a great pen. St. Louis in 2010 largely won their ring via great production in their pen and the offense. Both carried them through the playoffs. Boston in 2013 had nothing special starting pitching, but their pen and offense were great in the playoffs, leading to a title. The Royals made the World Series in back to back years without an ace or top tier rotation, but their pen was lights out to go with good defense and timely hitting. With the extra days off in the playoffs and managers not having to be as careful about over-use of their best relief pitchers, these teams with 3-4 guys in the pen who have a sub-3 ERA, great K/BB ration, and low WHIP can just come in throwing gas and mow down hitters. An offense working the count in the playoffs and thus getting a starter out in say the 5th or 6th inning is often a bad thing today as better pitching is waiting in the bulllpen. Between Strop, Rondon, and now Chapman, that three guys on par or better than what the Royals had. I see it from the Cubs point of view. The Royals model makes the powerful bullpen a necessity to win the post season in most GM's minds. That's in part why the recent trades for Giles etc seem more "reasonable". The Cubs gave up way too much in respect to 30 innings but they did not in respect to a possible ring which is priceless, especially to that organization. They also traded from depth, so while it was a huge haul, it wont really hurt them, baring injuries. My point of view is that we should be looking at some huge packages for JJ, Smith, and Thornburg. Yes, not Chapman level, but half that for each would set us up in a massive way.
  18. I think Stearns has several deals lined up he is just pushing for sweeteners. Luc and at least one of the relievers will be gone. There's way too much smoke there.
  19. I'd think 3.5 years of control mean JJ would need to go for a Chapman package.
  20. Number one prospect plus for two months of a guy who will pitch what, 30 innings? I get it if you're the Cubs as 1908 was a long time ago, but that is a massive price that I'd love to have if I'm in the Brewers FO.
  21. I know its not good, but I get so jealous when I see other teams pull of these huge prospect for expiring trades. Other than the Melvin/Astros heist last year, I cant off the top of my head recall a single deal like this or the Shelby Miller trade in our favor.
  22. Says they have a deal. " Yanks and Cubs have a deal. Torres, mckinney, Warren and likely 1 more to NYY".
  23. Ditto on D'Arnaud. Im not sure at all why we would want him unless its a throw in on the real trade. To me he almost has negative value at this point since he will cost quite a bit starting next year and he is always hurt. We can't afford to bring on injury prone players especially at a position with a short shelf life anyhow.
  24. This is spectacular news for the Brewers bullpen pieces. Of course Smith picked this weekend to have his melt downs, but he should still have a ton of value unless there is something physical?
  25. I had forgotten about Santana, D'Oh! I like him a lot. While I agree Perez has been OK, I guess he still doesn't fit my definition of OF, for whatever reason. It seems like he is only playing out there out of frustration of the lack of progress the others guys are making.
