  1. Assume Yeli is back. Is tonight the return of Braun to 1B then with Grisham in LF? I'd guess not, with Grandal playing 1st but we'll see.
  2. What a difference 4 days makes. From the vibe of we're basically done to all of a sudden in the playoffs. Do their job and get 2/3 this weekend and they should be sitting OK with only 40ish games to go
  3. Exactly. Played great for us. Gritty, hard worker, overachiever, played hard and well for us for cheap, everything most people normally love. I have no reason to be bitter at him afterwards over not giving PR answer. I appreciate honesty. Turns out how could he have known our rebuild would be so short. I also don't recall if they offered an extension prior to that last year here, I'd guess they did but it was super team friendly which in hindsight probably ended up being more than he's made since he fell off a cliff so quickly.
  4. True, I guess it's not for sure. But would they spend 5+ mil on a bench/depth player. The Shaw options would allow it though. But carrying all 3 on the roster all year could be tough. Interesting decision. Just too bad one isn't RH.
  5. Starting with WSH next weekend they'll have 19/21 games against direct competitors for the division and WC. The other two being vs HOU. That's the season right there.
  6. They're going to be in a really interesting spot. Essentially you really only need two out of Thames, Shaw, Moose back to cover those two spots. Moose would likely be the most expensive and might need another year or two attached after a good season. Shaw, obviously he's just been awful this year but you have years of cheap control on one year basis. Thames, he's been fine overall and is on a not expensive one year deal at your choice. Then factor in the timelines on them all. I guess that's why they earn the big bucks to sort this out. My choice at this point since I'm sure they're still going to consider next year a go for it year would be to keep Thames and Moose and let Shaw go. Seems the safest route for next year. Thing is I do think Shaw will rebound but I don't think you can risk it. You kind of know what you're getting in the other two. Maybe one of them goes down and Shaw gets a bunch of PT and finishes the year strong though, we'll see how it plays out. Also, Moose is about to prove his SS versatility too making him more valuable haha.
  7. Thank you ofr being the police of the board. We definitely need someone turning rela discussions into discussion on the manner in which one posts. It is my opinion that calling someone a tool or jerk as has been said and implied here over the years on him after playing his heart out here and sacrificing his body is an overreaction to his comments about wanting to go to a winning team. In my opinion him being honest like that and saying something we don't like shouldn't outweigh everything else he did and that he really never had anything else negative in his time. That is my opinion on a message board. That's what this is for.
  8. Sorry for giving my opinion on a message board. Thanks for your input, very valuable to the discussion.
  9. I could see either way. Lots of sense in either route. FYI-I did a quick run through a UW specific site and there also doesn't seem to be any clear info yet on these eligibility scenarios ya'll are discussing. Just kind of wait and see now. One thing I'd add on the staying at UW route being around things here and maybe know a smidge more info. His dad was murdered a couple years back and from what I understand he's very close with the WR coach here, I don't want to put words in anyone's mouth or overstate anything as I don't have personal direct knowledge but one could probably surmise in kind of a fatherly type of way. That maybe could be a big part of him wanting to stay. This kid has gone through a lot the last couple years so stability and a known support system he has here could be huge to him.
  10. Yup, it's people overreacting to his comments about going to a winning team and psuedo trade demand. We complain when people give cliched BS answers. We get mad when they tell the truth. He told the truth. What player wouldn't want to play on a winning team instead of a rebuild.
  11. Agree with the sentiment of the last few posts. But I guess if we think back to the beginning of the season most folks viewed the NL as tough due to there only really being one truly bad team. So in a way it was kind of expected to have a mess of a parity since teams are just going to beat each other up. I'd agree it's still worse than I expected though, like the clump of teams battling here I wouldn't have expected to be 4ish games over .500. More like 8-11ish instead. Still, it's somewhat playing out as expected in a way
  12. The only thing that made it go south was someone freaking out about how it might go south, so now a page discussing how someone posts rather than the topic,. haha. With the best part being the enforcer of etiquette coming in calling names, a direct violation of etiteque. Maybe he should be a Cardinals fan, haha. Sorry to mods, as this is now a mess. This will be interesting how it plays out. Lots of legal stuff folks like us couldn't know all the details on. Like, would them readmitting be a default admission that they were wrong to expel and thus basically admit guilt if he brought a civil suit, etc. So do they have to stick to their guns so to speak even though they know it's not really the right thing to do. Can they negotiate something with him now. Then of course the multitude of routes he could go based on this decision. What a mess overall for everyone involved and UW stuck in the middle of something they really had nothing to do with.
  13. I suppose too knowing they have tomorrow they know they can empty everyone in the pen today and not have anything to worry about tomorrow.
  14. Orf got some run last year. Being that it was for Sogard I was for it, as in, why not how could he be worse give him a shot. He of course did poorly. I think we've seen Saladino here plenty as well. Of course once in a while you'll have your Scotty Pods but it's just not likely. I don't hate it for trying to catch a hot streak or lightning in a bottle type gambles though, such as Sogard's first run here or when Saladino first came up last year. Those streaks can nab you a few extra wins but it's almost impossible to predict and you're just hoping to get lucky.
  15. Right, more examples to the contrary. Of course it 'could' be real but it's very tough to bank on it. If you would've got something good back for Grandal it could've been a shrewd move/gamble. Even just a couple month hot streak before teams figure him out could've been great. Thing is almost no contenders need a C. I can get behind the logic of rolling with the 3 Catchers after Grandal next year and spending his 18ish mil elsewhere like pitching though. I'd guess the combination of catchers ends up as 'fine', not Grandal level but not a big problem either.
  16. Sorry, we had a couple people discussing it civilly just fine and without anything political and you came in attacking them in something not involving you. You're the one who derailed it, even putting a big mocking meme in the middle. To the real topic and last thing HT said. Yes, really tough to know what you can do as good luck trying to end the hook up culture that exists and including alcohol on college campuses. I really don't have a good solution. One thing I read a year or two back was from Deandre Levy(not sure why he was involved) and that stance was that anytime alcohol was in a woman's system it would make them unable to consent. Something as extreme sounds just impossible. But I'd guess if QC gave advice to teammates it would be just avoid hooking up with drunk girls, be sure everyone is of clear mind and not in this gray area. Probably good advice overall.
  17. But name calling is? Those are huge glaring examples in the last 20 years which are completely contradictory to his point/view. And I commented in no way on either president or politics, merely just stating that the scandals happened which should be in no way political or controversial. So essentially in your take one couldn't use the Nixon cover up scandal in a discussion regarding say OSU football and how the coverup is often worse than the crime itself because it involves a president. In a weird way, you've now turned a legit discussion on the case into a political discussion. ETA: H&T I think you and I are way close than you initially thought. Glad to move into other avenues of it.
  18. I know they're politicians but I made no comment on politics in anyway. It is examples of publicly known cases of women making accusations and not being believed after someone said that doesn't happen. I then listed more examples.
  19. Frankly, I think you're way off base on your view on this topic. Look no further than our current president and another president 20 years ago. And that's just the two biggest examples. Heck, in recent sports example since we're on a sports board at the Mavs scandal of just a couple years ago. Oh, then Baylor just a couple years ago. MSU football, Bball (gymnastics was it's own mess). I'm still very surprised Izzo and D'antonio have flown under the media's obsession on this topic. That said, one thing I think that's messing up yours and mine discussion here is a bit of semantics. When I said "believe them" it's not that I meant that we just should automatically take their words as fact and basically be able to convict people off it. I meant as in when they come forward to a person of authority such as police, their boss, idk guidance counselor, etc that that person in that moment believes/take seriously what they're saying and that's its looked into with presumption this girl is being as honest as possible and then the societal systems in place due their due diligence and look into it. As opposed to kind of sweeping it under the rug like it was in the past and treated as no big deal. The ole "well, what were you doing at his room at 2am" type view on it. I really don't think we're very far off on what we think on how things should be now, but definitely in a bit disagreeing on how women have been treated in these areas for years before the recent push. Think you've taken my use of the phrase 'believe them' beyond how I meant it. I also said the mistake was not in that the investigators didn't do their investigation. They did everything they were supposed to do. The mistake was when it got to the point of deciding whether to push further and go to trial, technically the DA should have the stones to say "sorry, girls and parents. We've done all we can here but there is no way this is going to win at trial and we should all move on". But yes the current situation doesn't' allow him to do that without himself getting ripped, that's where the pendulum has swung too much in a way. That said, it's a stretch to say no evidence in this case as you have two drunk girls reporting it quickly, high BACs, the alleged admitting to the hook up and obvious evidence of them drinking. The alleged lying about other aspects. Witnesses verifying their boozing, witnesses verifying they were drunk enough to 'passed out' soon after the incident, etc. So, plenty of evidence girls who'd been binge drinking and that the encounter happened. Just no evidence that can prove they were blacked out to the point of being legally beyond the line. So I think as you said, this is beyond normal he said/she said. It's proven something happened, just can't prove the inability to give consent.
  20. He also had a 3.00 ERA just four appearances ago. Can look at that one of two ways, being just after a bad spell inflates his number with small sample of relievers. Or, something could be up of late that's causing him to fall off. Somethings hurt, fatigue, or whatever it might be. I doubt he'll get to MKE but if so why not grab him and see if he can help.
  21. H&T, OK I don't know what you're going at there. You're arguing that women in these situations have traditionally been listened to and their allegations taken seriously? IDK, seems to me that's kind of been one of the main points of the movement. That when they come forward with this stuff we should take it seriously as opposed to saying 'you shouldn't put yourself in that situation' or 'boys will be boys, you should know better' type attitudes of the past. And how they should have a channel or avenue to comfortably come forward. Or to not just dismiss it immediately since of course they have no evidence rather that the police doing their due diligence and looking into it. I acknowledged the slippery slope this is all going down though. I agree it would be totally logical for him to start fresh elsewhere, I don't see how someone would say it makes no sense to go elsewhere. I also see how he might prefer to stick here with people he knows. His choice, I think he should be open to do whatever he prefers now as he is legally clear of everything and was as far as I know in good academic standing.
  22. Chase Anderson isn't much different from last year. He just has a more realistic HR rate for himself. I am not really shocked he made it to the rotation this year and did well. I predicted before the season he would be one of our Top 5 guys...unfortunately he has arguably been the best. Which, no offense Anderson, is kind of sad. Davies was injured last year, is in a complete free fall, and his supporting stats outside of ERA are all pretty much worse. Gio Gonzalez was good for us last year too...and it has been a mere 9 starts. Also, couldn't one easily argue that DJ is the one responsible for making Anderson good in the first place.
  23. For all we know those girls fully they believe they were too drunk and were taken advantage of here. I think they think they were too drunk to consent. That doesn't mean they're correct in thinking that and obviously they have no way of proving it. But my best guess is they believe it. And we as a society need to start listening to women in these case as opposed to dismissing it right away. Thing is 'taken advantage of' doesn't constitute rape legally. Problem in this case is that even after listening and doing all the due diligence possible (like should've been done) everyone should've known they had no legal case and it should've ended there. Everyone move on, saves the taxpayers money, etc. But due to the parties involved it couldn't happen. I guess I'm just trying to say there is probably too much acting like this was all made up, this is not the Brian Banks case, something did happen here and acting like or automatically assuming the women are fabricating and making stuff up is probably an overreaction. Though I do grant the current way these cases (also men hitting women type cases) play out is going down a very slippery slope and is currently wide open to be exploited by scammers. Say for example, a girl finds out her celebrity/athlete 'boyfriend' is cheating or has multiple girlfriends, like tons of these guys do. She wants to burn the guy, all she has to do is tweet out that he hit her and that guy is effed. Revenge, spite, scorn whatever you want to call it is accomplished. In this case though, I think it's a pretty big leap to act like they just made it all up. ETA: think of this way, these girls really have no reason to seek vengeance or spite at him in this case if they were fully into and approved of went down. Again, doesn't mean they were correct in thinking or can prove they were too drunk to approve or know what they were doing. But there is really no reason to think they don't think what they're saying is true. Remember they went to report basically right away the next morning. Who knows if they talked to their parents first before the cops, but either way if you were totally cool with it why would you go to the police right away and/or why would you tell your parents. It's not like they sat around for months or something, it was right away the next day
  24. It really does suck for all involved, except I would put the vast majority of the blame on the girls/girls parents here. If I'm reading this right, it took the jury all of 30 minutes to find him not guilty. There couldn't have been many in that room thinking there was any chance at all he was guilty or I imagine it takes even longer. The more I read online, the more ridiculous the allegations seem. If I had to put blame I'd probably put it on the parents. Supposedly being wealthy and lawyers themselves they were likely able to push this further along than it should as essentially there was no case to be made legally and it never should've gone this far. The biggest issue in these situations is the he said/she said aspects and frankly that has been working against women forever in that they can't prove anything so now we as a society are correctly trying to swing it a bit more in their favor and give them a voice or ability to say something and be taken seriously. With what a lot of folks are saying in this case as if everyone should just dismiss what they said because they can't back it up with evidence is what we're trying to fix. Generally speaking we should be trying to support women in these situations and try to prove what they're saying. It's not like something didn't happen here and they just completely made it up. Problem is there is just not an easy fix for it. Couple things to remember, think of the Jameis case. How many folks now saying how innocent Cephus is were also saying the same about Jameis? It's essentially the same case. I know other stuff came out later as Jameis pulled more incidents, but I mean the initial case. I know I wasn't. I understood it was in a gray era though and legally he probably couldn't be convicted. Remember in this case too, he went out and was totally sober looking to pick off, take advantage of their lowered inhibitions and hook up with drunk girls, then wanted to take pics of them naked when they were sleeping. This is generally some creepy/shady behavior. Technically illegal? No probably not as we see no reason to believe they were drunk enough not to be aware of what they were doing but it's still not something I would do or condone. And as a rule if you're stone cold sober you should just have better judgment than to hook up with drunk girls, even if not blackout level drunk where it's illegal.
  25. Gotcha. Yea just figured if he was already moving around enough to play CF taht he'd be the easier transition. Guess not though and arm must be the reason. Yeli's arm is weak too. Oh well, I assume Braun has put in some time out there lately to refresh on it. hopefully it works. I'm by no means one in the camp like those last year that freaked when Yeli sat out that day somewhat late in the year, I know he needs days. But with 3 off days in the next 10ish days and with how hot he's been I have to say I disagree on this one. Especially when you factor in the defensive juggling we're having to do to make it work. It's baseball though, we'll put up 8 runs tonight...
