  1. I wanna say someone in the last month or so here went through that catchers ERA stuff with the Dodgers the last few years and there was nothing there. So most likely a small sample issue. That said, I do think Pina is a great defensive catcher. Imagine what Kratz's numbers would be...
  2. I don't think anyone is saying don't speak your mind. It's more that there is no need to gloat if/when you do hit on one and try to act like a know it all. No one is going back and pointing out all the things you or others got wrong. There isn't a competition here. Carry on though, I appreciate the energy
  3. Generally agree with brewtank. I think once healthy he'll be fine again next year, sure probably won't match 2018 but he'll be a solid hitter again. Sure, if someone were to take on the full salary you probably do it since you have a 550K replacement sitting here. But I don't think anyone will take that on. With injuries and and Braun playing some at 1B there should be plenty of ABs to go around. I'd probably advocate more liberal use of the DL next year instead of playing through so many injuries too, which would free up PT.
  4. As one who a month-ish back had probably said things along the lines of "well Grisham has come out of nowhere and was a flop as of so recently that if you can trade him for something legit I'd probably do it. Kind of sell high and make sure you get something out of him". After being able to get some eye test and watch, I see why they didn't and why they probably held him in much higher regards than ratings sites or folks like us who can only look at numbers. Everything looks legit here to be a major contributor long term. The plate discipline, contact type hitting is something the lineup drastically needs. ETA: Yea, I love the told ya so posts. Those are the best.
  5. one of those CC can't win situations. does the smart responsible thing and goes with the hot hand and might still get boned. We can rip the manager all we want but essentially he has no good options these days and just has to go with the least bad option
  6. Thanks. I would've assumed you needed a subscription or account of some kind and not bothered with it. But it seems to be working fine. should help pass the work day
  7. Right, but have a player this freakishly good is a huge advantage. Especially on such a cheap contract. The window a player on that contract is providing us is something a small market dreams of. How they take advantage of it is of course yet to be seen. We can rip on management all we want but obviously it worked in year 1. Year 2 they're still competing but pitching mistakes were made. You have 3 more years in this window and the latter two you also lose Braun's contract to help with more flex. Basically just saying it's very tough to punt on that window, have to keep taking swings. But as Snapper just said once you get to the deadline 1.5 years away from FA you have to start listening if that team isn't winning.
  8. Sure you'd take Rendon if you could. But are we going to hand out a 5-6 20-25 mil contract to a 29/30 yr old? Granted, the market in the last few years probably keep his price tag down where you just don't immediately dismiss it (like we don't have to worry about 7-8 yr close to 200 mil anymore) but I still don't think they get it done. Someone will trump them.
  9. If things are as team friendly as Plush just said then yes sure things make sense to talk about with Grisham. For Huira, he's going to be more in the ATL guy type of ranges for some legit money. He looks like as good of a lock as you can get when it comes to being able to hit so the sooner you start with him the better. Grisham has just such a small sample of being good you'd like to see a bit more, but if it's that team friendly it's really low risk
  10. Jeez, there is assistant hitting coaches too? If the main hitting coach is irrelevant imaging how useless these guys are
  11. Or guys can wash out after looking promising. It happens all the time. He's not going to have significantly more bargaining power a year from now than he does now even if he does well. He's still 5ish years from FA at that point
  12. After reading this for week, when he comes up if Freitas doesn't top that new guy from Cincy I'll be disappointed.
  13. Phillies. Still have to have the goal of the division in mind. You're only a couple out and play the Cubs 7 more times. The WC play in game is such a crap shoot in itself, plus if you win you play LAD. Get the division and you avoid all that.
  14. Well, former Brewers great Nelson Cruz is on the DL right now. So that helps a bit. AS KS just said, I'll be happy getting 1 here. Sure would be nice to get game 1 though and have a chance at both.
  15. Oh right I even forgot to mention Moose has been generally fine vs lefties. It's really just frustrating the offense just hasn't been better with really only have a bad hitter at 1 spot.
  16. Teams are going to do it the rest of the year against the Brewers. The front office made this bed, and now they are unfortunately forced to sleep in it. I totally understand that lefty power plays well in Miller Park, but this team went overboard with it, and is now paying the price. Generally agree and all. However, for the blame game they couldn't have really expected Cain to fall off so drastically this year, so that should be a good bat vs LHP. Braun has been fairly good all year but his normal LHP mashing hasn't been there. They got a switch hitting C and a backup who's RH. 1st base they had a RH Platoon all star who flopped. Soooo, they're colossal mistake in team building was not getting a RH 3B/2B instead of Moose and not predicting Jesus would flop? The 4th OF make sense to be LH due to Braun being RH.
  17. I had 20 pack in the 2nd deck until last year. What I found was that Cubs games you'd definitely make money and close to double what you actually paid for them due to the season ticket holder discount. But, one year I bought a bunch of extra Cubs games during the presale, mostly they were lower level seats if I remember correctly. I think this was the year after they won the title and they would be playing in MKE before their own home opener. I thought I'd clean up on it. But since I had to pay full normal face value (no SSH discount) I basically just covered the expense on it and won't bother with that racket again. That's my 2 cents.
  18. Yup, I'd have my guess on a step back from the Bears. I'm not a huge NFL guy so can't speak too much. But it seems all the moves made on D made sense for once, if the D becomes good and Rodgers is healthy they should be fine and win the division. Regardless, it's not going to be easy as you have to respect Bears and Vikes quite a bit.
  19. Just looking at this. Being that we have a dome, what is the point of opening on Thurs and having Friday off? Friday opening days are kind of the best you can ask for, I think 2012 vs STL was a Fri opening day and it was by far the best opening day experience I've had. I also want to say they started the game at 3 or 4 as well.
  20. If you had to do it today. IDK, probably Chase. BUt with two months to go a ton is going to change. Who knows what will happen. I'd cross my fingers Woodruff comes back strong to help the cause of even making it and then can pitch that game
  21. Wow. Surprising on Yeli. This seemed more like maintenance type stuff of something very minor but we're up to 4 days already. Might be more worrisome than we thought. Knowing him though, he'll be back tomorrow and just raking right away
  22. Moreover, he's been on campus a ton this whole time this has been going on. He's lived here for most of it, has been allowed to work out at the facilities and such.
