  1. Nobody is saying Peralta is bad or that we "want" to trade him. That's what's being missed in this True Blue discussion as he acts like we all think he's bad or something. All this side is saying that if you're attempting to trade for a good player you have to give something good up. Generally speaking I don't want to trade any of the 3 as I have confidence in all 3 being contributors and good pitchers. And I see how Peralta could go from the spot he is now to really darn good if he adds a change. But again, you have to give up something in these trades.
  2. Absolutely. However, with no disrespect intended, the opinion and evaluation of a MLB scout is going to carry a lot more weight with me than that of anyone here. Especially when there are so many oft repeated misconceptions stated here. Furthermore, he doesn't live on an island. He maintains many connections in the scouting world and his opinion is well-backed. Sure, as it should. But you do realize how much of a crapshoot this is all is to put so much stock in thing? The best scouts in the game are wrong all the time, this is by far the most difficult game to predict. You can probably go back and look at any top 50 list the last 15 years and vast majority of them never did squat in MLB and that's with countless scouts saying how great they are. Moreover guys like Altuve, Piazza, Pujols, Pedroia and even other just good MLB players like IDK a Lucroy defy all scouting reports all the time. It's just the nature of baseball, if your friend could predict every prospect perfectly he'd be the best GM in the league. But yea hopefully Peralta is one that defies the size/velocity issues and does great, really hope he adds a legit change up this offseason, with his delivery it could be killer, KRod type pitch.
  3. Lol, control is the only thing holding him back from being completely dominant. You're definitively saying a 22 year old with MLB success under his belt can't fix that as he progresses? I'll continue listening to the scout. you don't think being undersized and only having a low 90s FB would qualify as warts or potential issues?
  4. Agree that if I had to choose which one to trade I'd go Peralta. But I also totally see how someone could think the other way. One factor to me beyond the obvious is that although everyone traditionally values "Age" and rightfully so, in a certain way all that really matters for a team like MKE is team control (as long as the guy isn't in his 30s of course) and that's basically a wash with these guys. In this particular case, if I recall TBCC has a personal connection to Perlata in some way though and why he always harps on it.
  5. SF ballpark would also be a very good fit for Anderson/Davies to fill out a trade as well.
  6. Coan was a solid recruit, yes. But a guy like Mertz is on a different level. Coan was a 3-star in some places, 4-star in others, ranked in the 12-20 range at his position, with an offer sheet that topped out with Wisconsin, Michigan, Louisville, and Miami. Mertz is ranked between 2nd and 4th at his position, 4-star everywhere, and has offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, etc. That doesn't mean Coan is bad or that Mertz is destined to be great, but it does mean that when fans ask why Wisconsin doesn't get better QB recruits, they've done fine with guys like Coan or Houston in the past, but Mertz is indeed the counterpoint to that argument. Yea I get that. essentially Coan was their best QB recruit ever before Mertz though. And going back to Houston, yes another legit recruit. We're nitpicking really, all I'm saying is people saying 'these guys aren't good, recruit better' are kind of missing that they have been doing that. A guy like Coan wasn't a stiff in HS like average fans are going to assume watching his play so far, go back and watch his film, had legit high major offers and basically lit up HS similar to Mertz, had crazy HS stats and film. Wolf also had an offer from OSU. So I'm saying you have them, but now they need to be trained, used properly, better play calling, etc to actually get back to a legit passing attack like they had in 2010-11ish. Hornibrook, yea he was just salvaging the coaching transition as best they could. So basically, their last 3 QB recruits are legit in Coan/Wolf/Mertz so they better pop with one of them so fans aren't saying 4 years from now (again) "why can't we get a good QB to come here".
  7. Donaldson 1/23 or Schoop 1/10 ? I probably roll with Donaldson
  8. Coan completed 16-of-24 passes for 160 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in only his third ever start. I had my brother say the same thing about the coaching/QB situation but it is way too early to write off Coan who will now keep his redshirt year. There is absolutely no reason Hornibrook ever starts again (other than the bowl game) if we have an emerging Coan and hopefully a stud in Mertz in waiting. Yea I'm all for it as well. You can see the zip on the ball and just he's clearly a better thrower, like if you were just standing around outside throwing balls he's clearly got the better 'arm talent'. I was just pointing it out that in two years he still came in and was basically bad. You can grab one good quarter and grasp to it as at least a positive sign but overall for a top recruit one expects more as we see guys come in all over the country and just wizz it around. Another positive, he didn't throw into triple coverage like Horni does 5 times a game, plus he's mobile. So again, development, playcalling, whatever it was that led to us basically being inept when he (and horni) played is the problem. But when people who don't follow closely go "why not recruit a better QB" I was just saying we have but now we actually have to see it on the field. One of Wolf/Coan/Mertz has to hit and make the passing game legit or these coaches are doing something wrong.
  9. Coan was a highly rated QB recruit as well, 4 stars, top 10. All time NY record holder. And in two years of development how did he look? Something is lacking on the offensive side of the coaching. I'd guess PC needs to get more heavily involved in the offense/QBs again. Call it a demotion of Rudolph or not, idc, but something is up. Of course, I don't know for sure his current level of involvement but it seems lacking considering he has a tiny playcard and just how bad the passing game has been since he's been back. Nothing looks like it did under him previously. Bostad should be back to coaching OL again. The D, well they lost a ton of seniors and were massively injured yet generally held their own. Don't see too much to be overly worried about there long term.
  10. Always loved Beltre. The never wearing a cup story is great. The energy he played with always showed. Just adding that another severely overlooked player on the 3B list is Scott Rolen. Pretty much the best defensive 3B his whole career with multiple GGs. 281/364/855. Beltre OPS was 819. Also, adding Beltre in MKE this year wouldn't have been a horrible move assuming it would've been cheap. Could play 3rd vs all lefties and would be insurance if Jesus struggles (Shaw could get alot of starts at 1B) or if more 2B issues arise so Shaw plays there. I had him on my radar.
  11. I'm basically at the point that if you don't get the noticeable upgrade with Realmuto or I suppose Ramos if the price is right then just go with Pina/nottingham in at least a 3/5 split to Pina. Pina was really good in 17, struggled to start 18 but then was basically back the whole second before losing his PT to someone who couldn't hit. I'd trust him to be fine next year. Probably have to grab some kind of vet in the Kratz/Vogt mold to stash in AAA in case of injury.
  12. Correct, he hasn't developed nearly at all like everyone hoped 2 years ago. Go for him still getting a D1 ride though, all reports were that he was a great kid and from a great family
  13. Umm yeah, the casino is the reason for the hotel. Comparing a Miller Park hotel to the Potawatomi hotel, is about as big of an apples and oranges comparison as you can make. And while it is a decent walk, it's plausible that you could walk from the casino to downtown. Not only that but the Potawatomi hotel is also close to popular neighborhoods, Walker's Point and the Third Ward. Not so much from Miller Park. I also think it's funny who started this thread considering a hotel right by Miller Park would hugely cater to Cubs fans, especially on weekends. Yea it's the reason it exists but I'm just pointing out that it's the 2nd closest hotel to MP and sells rooms for 3-400 on weekends because of it, so just showing there is a demand in the area. Still, is it worth it considering weeknights are likely blah and offseason of course is blah (whereas Poto has casino all the time)? Probably not at this point. For the distance stuff, Poto is like 1 to 1.5 miles from MP. so anything Poto is close to so is MP
  14. Yea it's not like it's 15 miles from the main downtown, it would be just like any other hotel in the offseason. Poto is the most obvious example and as I said they charge 300-400/night on weekends when the Brewers are home and they're sold out. Granted, they have the casino there but it's basically in the same area. If they've deemed MKE is oversaturated on hotels that is logical and they're the experts. But if you could just take that Best Western or some other hotel within 3-5 miles of MP and transplant into the MP parking lot I'm sure it would do better than it's current spot. As noted though, is it worth hundreds of millions in investment 20 years after MP was already built. Probably not.
  15. Generally agree with all of this post, including the 1B flex in future years with either him or Shaw. Even at that 3/30 I'd be tempted due to him being such a solid fit, 3rd year is tough though at that age. What I wanted to add is that they should really be kicking down all these doors right now prior to deciding on Schoop in a few weeks. As in, if they know they have Lawrie or someone they like better in the bag then they can just non-tender Schoop and/or trade him for whatever they can get.
  16. I'd guess King looks drastically better 10 games from now, remember first games back from knee surgery. Biggest takeaway I had him was that his shot form looked great on FTs, i think he'll be just fine a month from now. Then add in Ford too and you at least shouldn't have the putrid offense that made last year so horrible to watch. If anything I'd say I was more concerned that Reuvers showed nothing on offense.
  17. No one want to pay for Davies when they have no intention of contending despite his value being higher than say a Dubon or a Nottingham. I’m actually a big Davies fan so I wouldn’t trade him at such a low point anyhow. Again, you do need players on the 25 man roster. You aren't going to go from 60 wins to 90 wins in one season. You can't try to time 12 prospect callups all at once and go from trash to contender overnight, it doesn't work that way. Incremental build up. And Davies is young with team control, and can help stabilize their rotation a bit for a few years. Again, targeting Davies is literally no different than us targeting Shaw during a rebuild. I pretty clearly outlined why your comment didn't make sense before you even typed it out... We don't know. All I'm saying is they "might" have an interest in not being awful after being made fun of and embarrassed for a year. If their attitude is to not care at all and all out tank, then yea they're not going to put much stock in Davies/Anderson types. IMO there is a value in not being a joke, but they might not think that way. I'm just saying it might be a possibility and we have some guys that fit if that is the case.
  18. Nobody has really said that. What we just talked about was putting one of those guys in addition to good prospects such as Peralta, Woodruff, Ray, etc or whoever they come up with as legit prospects they like. tossing on a MLB innings eater might be preferable to some low level flyerss like other teams will tack onto their package. For example, look at the Sale deal a few pages back. It was two top prospects, and two flyers who might never make the bigs. We're saying the Marlins might be better off taking Davies rather than those flyer types. Help them be a bit more respectable, if they do well,, trade them later too.
  19. Davies and Anderson would also fit their ballpark very well.
  20. I wouldn't give up hope. It will depend on how the Marlins value these prospects, not how arbitrary 3rd party prospect rankers value them. Plus, we really have no idea how much value the Braves, or the Brewers, place on Realmuto. The Brewers definitely have the ammunition to get a deal done if they want to, and they determine that Realmuto is worth the cost. One thing the Brewers offer that the Braves do not is a set of upper-end prospects that are closer to Major League ready. I've also accepted this as unlikely to happen. Just adding that along with upper tier prospects close to MLB we also have some actual MLB depth pieces if they had an interest in being "not embarrassingly bad" next year. So toss in a Davies type who can eat innings for them along with the real prospect package and maybe it helps. Of course I have no idea if they care at all about all the bad publicity of the last year or if they're fine just straight up tanking and being made fun of for another year.
  21. Yes there would be a market for it. One train of thinking people brought up in this thread is due to the prime location it will $200 or significantly more than elsewhere in MKE. Need to think of it the other way around, if they're charging that much and selling it out that means there was enough of a market to justify it. Will you me or joe schmo we know do it, who knows. But if it's always sold out even though they're charging more than the ones 3 miles away, well then it worked (assuming they fill it enough in the offseason as well). Personally I think they'd sell it out every weekend if it was there. I take Poto as an example as I'm a frequent customer there. They charge more on home weekends (and generally more than normal hotels) and oftentimes I'll call just in case I want to stay over, but they're always sold out so I move onto other spots. so if they're doing it, I'd be shocked if one even closer wouldn't work.
  22. I don't think I go that far even. Well I suppose if I have a 2B signed already, say Gonzales so we know we're set there for 3-4 years. Otherwise you're fixing one issue and creating another. Then maybe you can justify it, but still I go back to the Sale deal and look what they gave up. Kopech would be considered more Ace potential than Wood but was also years away from the bigs. I grant that package was more, but it's not thaaat much more for a true Ace signed for more years than a C (one of the most unpredictable spots due to wear/tear). I think that's too much to give up.
  23. I don't think anyone this offseason has suggested giving up Huira and Peralta and Woodruff (and Ray) for Realmuto. The general idea seems to be it will cost us - on the high end - Huira plus one of Peralta/Woodruff/Burnes - and maybe some extra pieces. But maybe I'm wrong and a bunch of people saying it will cost Huira, Peralta, Woodruff and Ray or whatever. Good post. I guess I don't want to dig back through and look but yes I could've fallen victim to lumping multiple packages together in my head and not remember exactly which pieces come out. For example, i think Wallus' didn't have Keston. He had two of the three Ps, Ray, and Nottingham. Think some posts before that had Huira though along with combinations of Ps. And a distinction would also be whether people are saying "thats what it would cost" vs them actually willing to do it.
  24. Isn't it crazy that no pitching coach can find a way to get some movement on Peralta's FB? Granted I only saw a bit of him this year but it looked the same to me. A slight grip change, something to get some action on it, even if you lose an MPH or two.
  25. Who is the second MLB ready Starting Pitcher? Woodruff has only succeeded out of the bullpen. Well I didn't say that did I? I said ready, as in he's here ready to go at the MLB, not in AA with the who knows if he ever even makes the bigs issue. Moreover, Woodruff has successfully started several games for us in 2017 in a playoff race. Go find any trades that are comparable to giving up Huira +Peralta + Woodruff(and some are also including Ray). I strongly doubt you can find one anywhere close to that package. That's the type of package you see for Chris sale on a super team friendly deal with 4 years of control. Compare that to the sale return, it's pretty close Good idea. I looked at that one. cost controlled top 5 SP in baseball is about the most valuable traded player there could be outside of Trout. Moncada: MLB ready 2B prospect. Comparable to Keston, slight edge to Moncada due to all his hype at the time (personally I thought overrated due to Red Sox hype machine) Kopech: never pitched above A at time of trade. But was top draft pick so give him some extra value. Still less than Peralta or Burnes, comparable though and I see the argument the other way too Basabe: never above A ball Diaz: never above A ball So essentially, these mega packages being thrown out here are comparable and in my opinion more that what Sale got back
