  1. This is the plan that got them here and what everyone was praising as genius and the next step in baseball a mere 4-5 days ago. They're not going to go away from it because it didn't work last game.
  2. Agree on Peralta, I think he's more there for odd situation of needing to eat multiple innings due to extra innings or maybe if they're significantly down in the game so you don't want to burn guys up. Of course could be wrong and maybe they'll use him for a key RH heavy stretch at some point. But Walks can kill and that's risky business in a tight game or with runners on already.
  3. Yea my almost froze a guy on the curve type line isn't trying to say walking the guy isn't bad, I'm bringing it up to say that he wasn't drastically way off on any of those pitches in that AB, including the ball 4. Unlike say Knebel back when he was struggling and the ball was nowhere near the plate, the curveball wouldn't break and the C would almost have to stand up to catch it. When you see that you know somethings up, when a guy barely misses a perfect pitch by 2 inches I don't think there's too much to read into. That's all I meant by it. For the yanking Miley. This has been their strategy all year, the "there's no reason to yank him" just isn't true. First, they've done it all year. Second, the stats/math show this 3rd time through the order stuff is mathematically sound. They already pushed it a couple hitters more than planned. At which point you had their 345 of the order coming up, and the first guy a RH hitter who's very good. This is the exact situation the whole strategy is trying to avoid. So you go to the guy who mows down righties. It's perfectly sound strategy that has worked all year and got us to this point.
  4. JJ has given up 5 hits in these two games. At least 3 of them were bloopers/dribblers, then the HR and I don't remember the 5th. And the one walk which he just missed freezing a guy on a curveball 3-2 pitch. If two of those 3 bloops are the outs they're supposed to be things look way different. I just hope they cruise to an easy W today so there is no drama to worry about, but after a day off I'm more than confident in JJ if needed.
  5. JJ had the bad game in game 1 vs COL. Came back in game 2 and went two shutout innings in game 2 didn't he? He essentially gave up bloopers/dribblers for hits in both these LAD games besides the HR to a really good hitter. Bases loaded walk sucked too but it was a curveball that just missed low. Don't get me wrong, it sucks he hasn't been his normal self, but he's been your best most consistent guy all year with a low 1 ERA. Hits are gonna happen, stick with him and he'll be fine. If he leaves Miley in there and Miley gives up a ding dong or double down the line CC gets ripped for that too. It came down to Burnes/JJ having bad days. If Burnes mows down that next inning like he has been doing for months now, they probably cruise to an easy W. It happens, Dodgers are good too, as much as I joked MKE would sweep the whole playoffs I think we all knew they'd lose a game. The sky isn't falling, go back out tonight with the same strategy that got you here and win the game.
  6. Coan was a top flight recruit and so is the next one Mertz. Hornibrook was a salvage best they could do during the Anderson transition of recruiting running QBs who can't throw. Now, one of Coan/Mertz has to actually do it, but this 'why can't we get a QB' is seemingly been taken care of recruiting wise. But overall I get the point, they have to actually produce on the field. Also, the true fresh now Wolf was a legit recruit with an OSU offer. Basically just saying recruiting wise they now have legit QB talent in the system. Overall I'm really disappointed in the playcalling on the offense though, I wonder if Horni's lack of mobility hampers it. One has to trust that the coaches aren't idiots and Horni must be currently better. However, the increased mobility of Coan has to be intriguing. Horni is a statue and it forces him to chuck it up in bad spots. They are currently trying to save Coan's red-shirt, so I fully anticipate Horni to keep going, but if he struggles again come PSU things could interesting because after that there will only be a max of 4 games left. Yes it would be odd to throw him into the fire in what will be must win games, so just saying if it's more of the same from Horni vs PSU they might get creative. Also, a legit reason for top QBs to come here is to run and be coached in an NFL offense rather than spread. For the college football sucks because can't win national title talk. First, they can still win the B1G conference which is something legit to play for. Second, how is that any different than other sports who have huge chunks of teams eliminated from playoffs or any legit chance of winning it all about halfway through the year. If you just value all out championships (not conference, division, etc) then yea I guess just let everyone in every sport in the playoffs. But then regular seasons are meaningless like CBB basically is, and to a degree so is the NBA.
  7. No Hader I think is going to have them hoping Miley can get through twice. Then Burnes. We'll see
  8. Right, almost all relievers can go back to back days. The only time to be concerned about this is the 3 straight in the middle. But really in 5/7 games you can use them very freely. And knowing you only have to win 4 games, it makes great sense.
  9. I got mine yesterday. My CC gave me an alert on it.
  10. Seems to be very common these days. Why couldn't this have been "a thing" back when I graduated!?!? Were your parents multi-billionaires? haha. I really don't blame people in their situations from not working. I mean, I wish I didn't have to and could just see the world and enjoy myself so I'm not going to judge them. However, that likely means one isn't competent/experienced enough to take over the family business. Of course they could do this for a while and then settle in just fine as a mature adult in the next few years and do just fine taking things over. Who knows. Watch the TV show Succession on the topic I know quite a few kids who are doing this, and they're far from billionaires. They find odd jobs here and there as they travel, teach English, etc. Oh for sure. That's a bit different though. They're scratching by and valuing the seeing the world over gaining wealth. And a very good chance racking up a good amount of debt on the way. Good for them though, live your life how you want. And I see your point that it just wasn't something 20 years ago looked at doing. These types are mega rich with literally no concerns of money, doing whatever they want whenever they want. Probably a bunch of lavish partying along the way. It's a bit different. Hopefully they all keep their nose clean so to speak.

  12. Right. I'm just saying that our traditional notions of "short rest" might be completely out the window at this point and irrelevant to our management.
  13. Chacin just went on short rest threw 5 shutout. One likely perk of this yank early strategy is that you might not need traditional full rest. First, because you only threw 75ish pitches last time. Second, because you only likely need to throw 75ish pitches next time. All this stuff is new to all of us so who knows what they do or how they view things like this, but that seems like it could be a 'thing' in the future evolution of pitching.
  14. While I don't know if I'd call it 'bullpen day' as the term gets used, there is no reason they can't basically go all in with heavy BP usage in games 1-3. If they used a lot in 3 you'd be limited in game 4 knowing 5 is coming. In game 5 maybe people who were used in 3 and 4 will be limited. But then again in games 6 and 7 you're at full usage of everyone. Essentially you can unleash the fury in at least 5 of the games without much fear. Included in those would be games 1 through 3, as long as you get 2/3 of those you're sitting very pretty.
  15. My friend here at work was curious on what channels the games are on because he just cut the cord. I went through ahead on my directv at the office and they already have LAD/MKE listed (not just NL, has the teams too) in the late afternoon window on big Fox. Sure, I suppose it could flip but seems like a near lock to me. Take it FWIW
  16. Yes, Saturday is in the afternoon window you mention. You can probably look at your cable listing now and it says Brewers/LAD. For the weekday games I can't say for sure how staggered they are, but being that we'll be in LA it's logical to think we'd be the second or later game.
  17. Haven't lost a game since Sept 22 vs Pit. Will basically be 3 weeks by the time they play Friday.
  18. Agree on Guerra. He's shown he can do well in this role. Whereas guys like Anderson and Davies haven't, not saying they can't it's just they haven't yet.
  19. Jeez, I hope Schoop starts a game and goes 3/4. Saladino better than Schoop is a comical overreaction to small sample and circumstances. Everyone should prepare for Schoop to start games due to the lefty pitchers. Shaw had good stats vs the lefty of Colorado so he got that game, but if he has bad numbers vs a LAD lefty we'll see what they do. They might go Perez though
  20. It's one game, crap happens. They looked like a 100 game winner two days before when they beat the 108 game winner.
  21. Because Schoop sucks and his roster spot could be used by someone more useful. Gonna put Saladino on instead? If you take of Schoop all you have is Perez to back up 3 spots while keeping 3 OFs to back up at spots where they'll never start a game. It's Saladino or Schoop, so I don't think it's close. IDK, maybe we can get Sogard back up.
  22. I think Stone nails it for Schoop. He's going to be on the roster. No way around it and he's likely going to start a game or two. It's which OF to remove for a P. Personally I think I go with Grandy being left off. And possibly moving in/out some of SP types based on matchups. Maybe Peralta out due to more lefties for LAD, something like that.
  23. ATL doing their part halfway through today. Hopefully the can finish this game off.
  24. I had a friend call today and they told her that at this point they couldn't guarantee WS tickets if you buy season tickets next year. I'd think if all you bought was one ticket at the cheapest price you'd be lowest on the list so unlikely to work. Take it FWIW. Would've been a heck of a strategy 3 weeks ago though.
  25. Good point, of the teams I'd least mind losing to it would definitely be Houston. And since we're probably talking about small %s changes in win likelihood I might as well root for Houston.
