  1. Good point Thurston. Yea he seems to be mocking the whole thing while it's fairly clearly the best testing in the world. Sure, if determined people can find a way to get around tests but all you can do is make it as hard as possible and MLB has done that. I've always found it weird how obsessed people are about this in baseball while ignoring it in all other sports, usually with shams for testing policies in those sports. Even look at the examples he's giving on how to cheat. Sure, it's still cheating but in order to clear the test they're being forced to use miniscule amounts to avoid detection. Right there testing is "working" in that it's not allowing the rampant usage of the late 90s early 00s where they're straight up juicing and tacking on tons of muscle.
  2. I don't want to get into the whole discussion gain. But yes, the tester guy did do things incorrectly in the process. No doubt about it. Turns out Braun was dirty anyway, but the guy did do things wrong.
  3. Yea as long as it doesn't burn his option it would make sense to option him down for Woodruff or Wilkerson so you have someone who can take on a few innings if needed.
  4. Sorry, but not stating all of the information is being misleading... not some rule I made up, pretty standard logic... Wouldn't not stating that he had a no trade clause be not stating all the information? You seem to be telling me to withhold info, seems standard logic to me there. I'm merely the one stating the information. You're making assumptions that are impossible for joe schmos like us to know. At some point when making his list of no trade team, he put us on as a spot he'd prefer not to go. Take it for what it's worth, people can make their own decision. But I'm sure Lucroy said at some point he just wanted to go to a contender too and we saw what happened. It was another thing in the equation and gave him leverage. I don't know why this is a fight. This is a fact, and based on people's posts on here that I didn't think people were aware. I was making them aware, that's it.
  5. Exactly, we don't know what it would've led to. Maybe he would've demanded his option be picked up, maybe he would've waited to see what else came through and chose CHC instead. All I'm saying is that it was a hurdle. It's not misinformation, it's true and most here probably didn't know it. Sure it could've been overcome but it was in the equation.
  6. While that's true that our guys weren't exactly world beaters either, they were still way better than what was given up for these pitchers. Thing to note again is that we were on Hamel's no trade list. Archer would have cost legit prospects so was too expensive. Gausman looks like the missed opportunity due to us obviously having been in talks with Bal for a month leading up to it.
  7. Hard to do that when you had to go to your bullpen in the 2nd inning. One more run and the game is in extra innings... then what? Woodruff's turn in the rotation is tomorrow; he last pitched on 8/24. Expect to see him up. If not... don't be surprised (or upset) if Wilkerson is up. He's on the AAA Temporary Inactive list and hasn't pitched in a while. He's as fresh as anyone. You used them both anyway. If you use one there, then reassess after that inning. Still down one, use the other. Extra innings you still have Jeffress/Hader who can do multiple if needed. They had an off day yesterday. so guys can go back to back days to be used today as well. Sure you're behind the 8 ball when put in this spot by the starter but once you get it to 1 run you should probably try to win the game.
  8. But if you just have Soria or Williams start the inning your chances or runs given up goes drastically down vs Albers
  9. Yea they'd have been further ahead just getting Dozier and spending the prospects on pitching. I mean I can see the logic of what they tried and the Schoop move is also partially for next year. But yea the person's signature on here kind of mocking the moves nails it pretty well.
  10. He wouldn't be facing brewer pitching anymore, so what's the point? This team just got shut down for 4 games at Wrigley in late august The Reds offense has been far from their problem the last two years. Turned several unknowns into hitters
  11. I wonder if the Reds hitting coach would be available this offseason
  12. Yea if Braun wasn't doing so well he'd be getting his chances but with Braun looking great combined with the stark defensive dropoff it is what it is. I know he's been crazy vs Cincy but the reality is that's just a small sample fluke and shouldn't be relied upon. I'm sure will Braun will get a maintenance day in one of the next two though and he'll get his chance.
  13. Generally agree. At the very least one would assume something very shady went on even if not technically illegal or is some gray area. The only thing I can think of that would lead to them pushing these allegations would be pressure from their lawyer parents (if untrue/exaggerated, obviously if it's true that would lead to it too). The pure guess scenario, they or one of them end up at the hospital super drunk like that and parents are called to help. They tell the story in a way to make themselves sound completely innocent, parents get ticked off and want to get the guy. Again, I have no idea. Maybe they are telling the complete truth to their recollection. I just generally agree with you that it doesn't make sense to make this up or exaggerate as it is kind of seeming, so that's the only scenario popping into my head that could lead down this road.
  14. Because we don't have unlimited financial capabilities and have a log jam at his positions already. I was shocked no one else claimed him though.
  15. Agree, I'd pretty much think no chance to catch the Cubs unless we beat them 5/6 heads up. That gives us a chance but still even a long way to go after that as you have to take care of business vs the lesser teams too. So, very unlikely. Just keep getting your 2 of 3 and you'll be ok
  16. Of course we don't know but just saying my opinion is that if he started out hot he'd be given a lot of slack afterwards since we've seen the good. Think of Thames as an example last year. Just guessing of course so no big deal. Either way, hope the hot streak comes now when we need it most.
  17. If he'd have done that in his first 10 games instead of what he actually did then people would have an entirely different opinion of him even if he followed it up poorly (basically reversing the order of games). First impressions/judgments stick with people
  18. Right, some of this Cubs daunting schedule to end will be mitigated by them being able to have the expanded rosters and pitchers for it. Whereas MKE had to go through their terrible stretch mid season and it killed their bullpen.
  19. I don't see any reason this should be looked at until after the 2019 season at the earliest. The whole purpose of getting him was a cost controlled player for several years, why immediately then turn him into an expensive contract. It makes no sense for a small market team unless it's extremely team friendly money and/or team options.
  20. It's Guerra or Peralta. They've both been shaky for awhile now and Peralta I'm sure is coming up in dangerous inning territory. Plus you have Davies at some point so both guys could be out eventually if this were to happen.
  21. True, the joke being that'll be them who puts the knife in us so to speak. Although as you say in that case there will be a lot of things to have gone wrong prior as well.
  22. Running pessimistic joke I've been saying is that I almost guarantee we end up being eliminated by STL. Either in that second to last series of the year or in the WC game. I hope to be wrong but I'm just so used to it I'm trying to prepare myself
  23. I see the logic of optioning him and letting him get one more start and seeing how it goes. You don't have to mess with sending someone else down, you have an off day Monday so don't really need another starter, Peralta was great last game whereas if he was bad again maybe you pull him out. I think that's the route I would go given Davies season so far.
  24. Because he throws 99 and could still be figuring it out now whereas Davies had a ceiling and hit it already (plus throw in control and arbitration costs for baseball that are relevant). Think of it similar to NBA draft talk of high floor vs high ceiling. Davies is the safer choice with the higher floor based on what he's done already but he's probably more or less capped out at what he is. Woodruff due to being able to throw 99 has a chance to be more than that so a higher ceiling, but he also might never make it all so a lower floor. Or think of it as Jimmy Nelson at age 26ish when he came up vs Davies now.
  25. Yup Rockies 3 of last 6 and 2 of 4. We did win once though. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/opening_day/odschedule.php?t=ML4
