  1. So far we've managed our pitchers to give up 2 ERs on a night when the starter was bad and out in the 5th inning. Once again, the real issue is the offense yet every bullpen R given up is amplified because the offense isn't doing it's part
  2. No more speculation than those who say he isn't rusty. We can play this game all night. Hader should not go 7 days between appearances, that is on Counsell. Maybe they need to re-think on how they are using the guy. He pitched on the third and today. That isn't 7 days, its 5. He's given up runs and home runs on less rest but five days isn't unreasonable. He didn't pitch betwen June 2nd and June 9th (six days) and managed to not give up a run. You're right, we can do this all night and the answer is still that Hader just had a bad game. And you know that after 3 innings he was likely completely shut down for at least two days, maybe even 3. So the two games after 3 days were a blowout and a game we were behind the whole game
  3. I am merely saying, that if Hader doesn't go 6 or 7 days between his last appearance, maybe he is sharper and doesn't give up those HRs. You guys can't possibly think that a relief pitcher will be as effective with sporadic appearances as he would if he is used more consistantly, right? Counsell is not perfect, and he is not above criticism. If he does stupid things, you can and should expect him to be questioned. I don't think we should just accept everything he does, he is sometimes at fault, whether people here believe it or not. yup that's a fair way to look at it. I was more focused on the mocking type posts. That said, where would you have used him without having the benefit of hindsight 20/20? That's the issue here, there's legit reasons he hasn't been used due to odd circumstances. I guess I'd say maybe yesterday in the blowout. Or maybe the game when he was already warming up. But then again, what if they needed him the next day? Then CC would get bashed for wasting him in a blowout. so I'd go with yesterday, give him like 12-15 pitches and get him out so that he's available today.
  4. Essentially it's impossible for a manager to predict which pitcher might not have it in a night and sometimes it's just the game, the other team is also trying to win. To bash the manager each time a reliever gives up a run just gets old
  5. Oh, so Counsell is perfect, and since he has the best bullpen in baseball he can't be criticized? please. No I wouldn't say any particular move can't be criticized. Some of the posts were down right mocking him as if he's some bumbling idiot.
  6. Sooo, he failed a PED test yet he didn't do PEDs, OK. Just happened to get good once he got next to fellow multi time caught PED user Manny Ramirez. If you remember me on here I'm one who doesn't really care and think things should be lightened up and all the hatred is overblown. But this guy failed a test yet flies under the radar and is gonna walk into the HOF because he's on the Sawx. As I think we all know these guys have found ways to get around tests for years, I'd have my money that he was one of them. Also, maybe he did quit once it actually became illegal, good for him if he did but I'd be shocked if he never touched the stuff and in that case then yes the longevity and all that is a heck of an accomplishment. And again, back then it was real deal steroids. But remember that like two year stretch in his mid 30s when he was truly awful, then all of a sudden figured it out again in his late 30s, yea that's not normal. Long story short, I think it's overblown to bash these guys like they do. I'm mostly just pointing out that I think the hypocrisy of how he doesn't get bashed and he'll walk into the HOF while other don't is unfair. Overall, I think all the elite guys should be in.
  7. I love the manager with the best bullpen in baseball being mocked for his management of the bullpen
  8. and to take out an awful outfield defender late with a one run lead. If Thames botches a fly ball like he did earlier in this game and it costs a run people would complain about that
  9. you know sometimes major league hitters can tee up a fastball. Doesn't have to be anyone's fault, other than the umpire. if he calls that out it changes the whole inning, maybe it goes 123 and then no one would be saying anything. The fastball was fine and the slider had normal bite on it. The last two days were blowouts. I guess he could have got him out there yesterday
  10. Brewers could put up 20, he'll still be on. One and done so he could pitch tomorrow and give the last two to someone not named Knebel! I'd take it. Burnes in a no pressure situation to finish
  11. Nice Nottingham. Keep doing this and then no more Kratz once Pina is back
  12. You can't tell me his wrist is healthy. Just DL and wait until after ASG. I was thinking the same thing. Good time to do it and only miss a few games. Could do it now, or maybe wait til after the double header and then he misses sunday and a few after the break.
  13. Almost assuredly aided by PEDs in real deal PED era though. Someone just said he's controlled through 2022, if that's true you have him until age 32. You don't have to be in a rush to decide anything. his prime is likely over by the time he'd be gone. If he keeps it up through say 2020 maybe buy out a year or two of FA to give him some financial security. But the Brewers didn't create this terrible arbitration/control system and weren't the ones holding him down in AAA for years, it's not their fault they'd be paying him so little.
  14. probably a good chance he gets in once some starters end up pulling out like usual.
  15. Sure it helps that he's facing a AAAA team but to still make it 5-6 innings and hopefully no earned runs without his best stuff and on a super hot night is a a good accomplishment. Finding ways to get good results on your off days is impressive Or lucky That's part of baseball. But yea he ended up not making it outta the 5th. Still, on a crap day for him he didn't get just lit up. I think a good call to get him out now and just move on to the fully rested BP
  16. Yep..no command Sure it helps that he's facing a AAAA team but to still make it 5-6 innings and hopefully no earned runs without his best stuff and on a super hot night is a a good accomplishment. Finding ways to get good results on your off days is impressive
  17. I agree because of the money. Baseball wise he has a solid track record and he's only been scored on in two games this year, just has so few innings that it inflates the era. but that's because he's coming off an injury and in our situation do we really want to risk a guy coming off an injury, I don't think so. I guess I'm just saying I'd pass too but it won't surprise me if he ends up with fine numbers to finish the year. Just wouldn't want the risk and to pay that money
  18. Funny to see all the seats visible on TV empty behind the plate. smart to not take Marlin Man's hundreds of thousands of dollars. I've also seen this at Yankee Stadium, I'm guessing they might have a pricing issue there
  19. IDK to me Phillips is the perfect guy to start with, he's very expendable for MKE. Start with that and go from there, if it's him and one of Burnes/Ortiz/Woodruff/Brown plus a lower level flier type I think you do it. I think I walk away if it's two of the good P prospects. We just have to hold onto as much pitching depth and prospects as we possibly can as a small market team.
  20. Compound not cashing out their guys a year or two back like htey could/should have along with dumping like 150 mil on Chris Davis and then 60 mil more on Cobb. You just shake your head and wonder what these guys are thinking.
  21. Another thing to note as we hear LAD, AZ, Cubs in talks as well is that we'd also directly be stopping him from going to our competition in the playoffs which has value. Also, I wonder what the Cubs would do with their lineup if they got him. Frankly I don't think they need him since so many guys have stepped up on O for them this year who were kinda question marks coming into the year. Maybe Schwarber is in the trade and then Bryant goes to left and Manny to 3B. Or Hayward to CF and Bryant to RF? But I think their CF has been doing well so why the need. Maybe could be including Russell and playing Manny at SS, though of course Baez should be the one playing SS.
  22. But in lineups vs lefties he could go to 3B and Shaw out. Or late game when Arcia is back then he could move to 3B. Or obviously if Shaw were to get hurt then he should be at 3B. Since he's been linked to Cleveland as well, he must be open to it, or at least teams think he's open to it. No way they're moving Lindor off SS for him. I'd guess their good 3B would be moved to 2B (I'm assuming their 2B hasn't rebounded this year, though I haven't looked it up).
  23. Woodruff has had several good games at the MLB level. He's had a couple stinkers too. But I'd basically call 6 of his 8 starts last year as good/quality whatever you want to say for that he did his job at least at a passable level. Take out the last game of the year where gave up 6 runs and his numbers look drastically different. Take out his one start at Col this year and his number look way different. His last two starts here he went 5 innings 2 runs, and 4 innings 0 runs. I guess I'm just saying that in his first 10ish starts he hasn't looked overwhelmed to me and has held his own, it's not really fair to expect someone to dominate immediately. It took Nelson like 1.5 years to figure it out at this level and he was a couple years older, Woodruff reminds me of him quite a bit. And his fastball has hit 99 this year.
