  1. I said it a few days ago, Perez right now is the compromise. Better hitter than Arcia/Sogard, better at D than Miller/Sogard. I'm not exactly a big fan of his or anything but he's kind of a baseline of competency, can just roll him at SS a bit more and see what happens
  2. In fairness, who here would have picked any team besides the Nats, LAD, Cubs to win the divisions. On paper they were clearly the best teams so it's not like they were being haters or anythings.. Obviously Nats/cubs are right there still and I still wouldn't be surprised if the Dodgers win as long as some of their pitching gets healthy, including Kershaw being himself when he comes back. That said, at this point yes you'd like to see more attention spread out to the other teams that are involved.
  3. Yea those pitchers were an upgrade on D over Schwarber, no doubt in my mind on that.
  4. And just think how close they were to still not winning (down 3-1) and needed extras in game 7. It worked though so it was all worth it. They'd have given this all away, of course they'd still have a good team likely to make the playoffs (and as we've seen with Cardinals, it's kind of a numbers game of making the playoffs enough you'll eventually get lucky and win) for several more years but really gave up some big future controlled talen.
  5. Right, with his D you just need basic competency out him on O and your fine. Those numbers last year would be great, but a notch below would be fine too. Say 255/305 type with around 700 ops. Fine, you just can't be a Pitcher at the plate.
  6. You stilll have Hader and Jennings as other lefties so I wouldn't say it's essential to get some kind of lefty specialist. Sure, that would be the preference. But I'd rather get a legit good pitcher up here instead of trying to force someone because they're lefty, like they did for 1.5 years with Drake because of the reverse splits on him.
  7. Knebel has been shaky on control lately but that looked like his old self. hopefully rounding into his last year shape
  8. and if yelich got a hit they would've brought in someone else for Braun. slowing it down even more. simple 1 2 3 here Knebel, cmon
  9. Now will Duensing get warmups when he comes back to pitch to Yelich? That shouldn't be allowed
  10. After watching games or highlights, it seems that there is too much leeway given to Maddon and the Cubs players when disputing calls this whole season. Yup, they're getting the star treatment like in the NBA
  11. I actually like when umps try to keep players in the game. This whole ego thing that some of them do is childish... Generally agree, especially when the guy has his head down walking away and umps go after them. This case though is definition of getting tossed. go straight to his face and start screaming. should be an immediate toss. Also, can't just let big name guys get away with it and then toss other guys, and that's what happened here. If that's Villar or some other mid level guy he's tossed
  12. Good idea. could lead to Hader starting the 9th if Schwarber is leading off too
  13. Will almost certainly be Hader in the 8th and Knebel in the 9th. Yup, too many pitches for Jeffress no matter what. Next inning has L, Rizzo, then S. And Schwarber if anything happens. Clearly Hader time
  14. I assume Hader is available for one inning at most. so i think Ii'd start with Jeffress and go from there. If he mows them down and looks good let him go two. If the 9th has tough lefties (Rizzo) I go Hader over Knebel. Maybe Hader no matter what. If Jeffress can only do one, then Hader in the 8th if Rizzo is due. Otherwise save him for the 9th/Rizzo and use Knebel
  15. Regardless of how deep the play is made, if an outfielder needs to dive in order to catch the ball it adds about a full second in the time it takes for him to get a throw toward the plate off. The situation being a hopelessly scuffling Arcia and Pitcher's spot coming up, I'd rather Perez be super aggressive in that spot by tagging up and going for it. The next best play would've been to get down the line further and read the play to see if the ball shorthops Heyward - then he walks home instead of trying to score from ~15 off 3rd and still have a coin flip chance of getting thrown out. back to the game, thank god that hanger got thrown to Gimenez and not a hitter capable of doing something with it...Chacin dodging a bullet there. But he couldn't have known for sure if it's a dive. If he stood at the bag expecting a dive/catch but he pulls up to short hop then he can't go. The way he did it he could've went for it if it bounced. Tough spot to be in, nothing to get too mad about either way
  16. I actually think the fly ball thing also exists at Wrigley so I wouldn't chalk it up to WI folks who rarely go to games or anything. One t hing I've thought of kinda in support of them is that maybe they are good fans and generally into the game than the average crow so it sounds louder because of that (keep in mind this happens a little bit for everyone, so if more of them are paying attention it would then be louder). IDK. Perez was in a tough spot, tag probably doesn't work so he was going that far in case it bounces he can give it a shot then.
  17. Been completely noticeable on TV for all the games too. It's really funny actually how bad they are on it, even routine pop up the OF runs in on. I recall one of the first games I went to at Wrigley maybe 10 -12 years ago. MKE hit a routine fly ball to RF to score the go ahead/winning run in the 8th or 9th. Cubs fans were cheering as our winning run went across the plate and they had no idea. Couldn't believe it and had to double check I wasn't too drunk and didn't realize it was the 3rd out. I was right. It's also kind of a running joke on twitter too, it's a known thing at this point
  18. Yea any deal with Machado seemingly would have Arcia involved. Using the word centerpiece is probably strong though as I'd expect Huerra or Burnes to really be the more valuable piece at this point, and probably both would need to be in the deal. [sarcasm]Speaking of Orioles SS, how about JJ to fill in on a 10 day contract?[/sarcasm]
  19. I loved the intentional hit batter leading to a huge rally in the Pit/AZ game a couple nights ago to cost the game. This way of playing can't go away fast enough
  20. Velocity up was a great sign going forward. I'd say the key last night was curve was on point, so much soft contact off it. location was always where wanted and down
  21. Great post. It's like we all forget they went to Wrigley and swept them last September to get back in the race.
  22. great W. Get it tomorrow. We should have the P advantage. Jeffress ready to go tomorrow, maybe Hader available too. Get it done.
  23. Can we get through this with no drama, is that possible? for the bryant/braun thing, no one is saying Braun is better. the initial was just pointing out the randomness of stats in small samples and that's a current quirk in stats.
  24. well we didn't need this with the state of Arcia, hopefully just a precaution and he's back Friday.
  25. Plush is pretty anti Braun, but I do find it funny that Braun has as many HRs and more RBIs than Bryant in about 50 or so at bats. Which would mean a lot more if HR or RBI were useful stats for judging a player. Bryant has an .885 OPS, 139 wRC+ and 2.2 WAR. Braun has a .770, 101 and 0.6. Bryant has been an all star level player and Braun has been a little below average. really it's kind of surprising Braun's OPS and WAR are even that good with how poorly he's hit. Just a 3-4 week stretch of his old self would be huge to carry the offense for a bit and rack up some Ws until he get's hurt again.
