  1. Yea if you're objective there's no way Goldy and Votto should be in over Jesus. I know they're usually great consistent players but both in generally down years for their standards this year. And as said Goldy was truly awful for the first two months.
  2. I've thought similarly. Like we could be involved in this to push the price and just in case we can get MM for cheaper than thought, but then call Oak and go for that instead. I'd say the problem with this plan is that Oak is like 10 games above .500. I know still a long shot for the playoffs, but still tough to just punt on a season when you're 10 above. It's also not unfeasible to sign Lowry on some kind of reasonable 2 year type deal to fill a gap here next year. Also, agree on the comments about Machado's D. Of course it's being balanced by elite level hitting rather than just ok hitting though. Still, I was kicking around the idea of somehow playing him at 3B and Shaw at 2B? Then have a good D at SS in Saladino/Arcia. I'm sure Shaw would grade out poor at 2B but you'd have good D at the other two spots. I mean, guys like Utley are still playing everyday at 2B, Shaw should be able to do that at least. ETA: I think Lowrie has really cooled after his ridiculous start too? Could be wrong but I thought I recall that from a week or two back
  3. I saw something the other day with their record over their last 120ish games (don't recall exactly) and if you take that win % over a full season it would be 42 wins. That is just laughably awful, and that's with Machado having by far his best season so far this year.
  4. With the emergence of Peralta, I think I'd do this. When folks have been throwing out packages with two of our top guys and 3-5 total players I was out. But if it's just one guy I think I go for it, and that's coming from someone who's been fairly staunch on not giving up our controlled P prospects. I hear what you're saying, but as has already been discussed in this thread (40 man crunch), I would much rather deal in quantity than quality if possible. Fine with that too. I'd be fine if their starting point was none of Burnes, Keston, Peralta and if that's not good enough then so be it. But just saying if all this cost was one top prospect that it's not a bad deal valuewise so to speak. Even if it was Burnes/Broxton I'd still guess some lower level prospect or player to be named gets included. This would free up 3 40 man spots though at the end of the year.

  6. Sure I'd take him but if there's any area that seems to be well solidified it's the bullpen. If a good value deal arises then why not, you can never have enough bp depth, but it's probably not a spot we should be overpaying to upgrade. And someone like Hand would likely require an overpay
  7. There's literally no way he could be worse in RF than Thames. So if they're fine with Thames out there no way they wouldn't be with him. It's probably with how poorly he's hit and their love of Perez
  8. Agreed. Seemed like an obvous time to give Woodruff a chance. Who knows though, maybe something is up with him right now. Nagging injury, struggling with a certain thing, etc.
  9. Watching the Cubs game too. Man that Reds offense is so deep. Without that terrible start they might be a legit threat if they picked up some pitching
  10. It's the nature of being the smallest market, it is what it is as a WI sports fan (other than for the Packers). I'm used to it and am fine with the underdog roles. Make being a UW fan much more fun than if we were kinda labeled the bad guys for being one of the winningest schools in both sports the last 20ish years.
  11. I'd guess the reasoning here is in case of a short outing today that we're well behind they can toss this guy in and eat innings. Guy is going right back down for Cain in the next couple days anyway. If you're not starting Orf today and Cain is back tomorrow, might as well get the pitcher up. ETA: actually maybe Broxton down for Cain makes more sense
  12. You don't think the manager should be able to predict every single night which reliever might have a bad night? Cmon, that's manager 101 stuff.
  13. If you're any type of competitor you always want in the game. CC needs to rethink his usage of him. They have enough depth in the bullpen that he doesn't need to always pitch more than one inning per game. The more available he is, the better off the team is. PinaMadness I'm not picking on you, just letting folks know that last time Hader pitched more than 1 inning before his 3 inning stint was June 11 when he pitched 1.2 innings. He had 6 straight appearances of 1 or fewer innings. I had thought CC had decided to limit his multi inning appearances for a while there. You have to go back to May 25 for his last 2 inning appearance. And with how taxed the BP has been lately he probably viewed it as an exception and a time to try and give everyone else a day off. Certainly understandable and logical
  14. Safe but can't overturn it IMO. For BRaun, yea his eye test has been bad the last two weeks or so. The previous stretch of him hitting hard but still getting out isn't really true right now. Lots of dribblers to 3rd and the P, and some first P popouts. This isn't really true tonight with at least two well hit balls that I remember, but generally over the last couple weeks
  15. Ding Ding! Winner! Think you are right! Several key hitters for them are lefties too, so a good team to get 2-3 innings from Hader vs
  16. That is a good point if it had been Oliver Drake I'd be all over Counsell since I know Drake is the worst RP to ever play the game! I know we have to use ERA as a baseline as there isn't much better. But something that might be a better indicator is scoreless outings. with the small amount of innings ERAs can get out of whack easily. Again, it's his second time giving up runs in like 15 innings. I think both were 3 runs though so it hurts ERA, which might give credence to the one person's point about he's kind of a guy you can tell right away if he has it or not. That said, he has legit stuff. Upper 90s heater and big slider, normal ingredients for a good reliver. I don't see the big hate for him, there's no reason he shouldn't be able to be used. It's not like he's Drake and other guys of past years where they don't have good stuff. Key of course is the command but stuff is there.
  17. Freeman and Markakis to start the inning I think. So probably Hader. 4th guys is switch also. Maybe he can just finish it. Guess not, must want an extra day for Hader after the 3 innings. Which explains Barnes in that inning. Yup, the guy who's given up runs once in 14 games is just terrible
  18. Exactly. If you get that inning from Barnes, then maybe you tack on some more runs and don't need any of your big guys. or if you don't get anymore runs maybe it saves one of your main guys. Just didn't work today. impossible to be perfect like they were the first 6-7 weeks of the year
  19. two good outings in a row from him. Now Barnes can be the whipping boy for a while since he had a bad game
  20. Well some are saying he shouldn't be brought in at all. Cmon Jennings, I doubted this move but so far so good.
  21. As the guy who's been saying all year he had no confidence in Barnes...the problem with that theory is that JB is a major league option to pitch with a 4-run lead. So you're staunch that the guy with a 2.45 ERA and who had only give up a run once in his last 14 appearances is total trash and shouldn't be in MLB?
  22. Not sure on Jennings here after pitchign two last night. Seems a perfect JJ time to me...we'll see
  23. Should have been yanked earlier I agree. But cmon guys, Barnes has been great since he came back up. Relax, guys have bad days once in a while. And remember the second to last batter was a dribbler infield hit and had poor hitting Swenson and then PH coming up at that point.
  24. before everyone freaks out. Keep in mind Barnes has only given up a run one time since May.
