  1. That was actually part of the reason they put it in to begin with so this won't change their mindset. They wanted extreme value on the division so that in a situation like this Bos/NY still have something to play for down the stretch instead of not caring whether they won the division or not. Of course though, how will they hold up with the media pressure from the two biggest markets we'll see.
  2. Same here, relief pitchers have bad games here and there. Being off injury you see an excuse and yes I get that we can't throw away games. Maybe a mistake was made in how quickly he was brought back or not given more AAA time to sharpen the command. But that doesn't mean he's not going to be fine going forward, just don't know and baseball is the last game to jump to conclusions in. The fastball was 95 and you could see a good bite on the slider/curve, whichever he uses. Get the command in line and hopefully he'll be ok. It's not like watching Drake where his stuff and delivery looked bad and the ball was always up. Find him a couple innings in non-close games and see how it looks.
  3. How much longer until they do something different with Bandy? Whoever they bring up just can't be worse than him can they?
  4. Agree with your theme, but Prince.
  5. Don't forget that nicked bat to cost Santana a walk to load the bases. I don't recall one like that before. High and tight and hit the bat instead of hands, sure all the time. But to have it get by and then tick the bat dangling behind the body, I don't recall seeing it.
  6. I understand how easy is to get annoyed by things when you see them over and over. But I try to step back and realize that it's kind of the nature of it when you're dealing with 162 games and you watch almost every one and baseball requires a lot of dead air to be filled. So I realize it's not really their fault and try to take that into account to cut some slack. Same would apply to the examples you give, and there's several Rock talking points that he repeats over and over (according to him it's almost like nothing good could come from pulling the ball). Also, think about people you encounter every day in your jobs who have things they repeat over and over. Almost everyone does it to a degree. I had MLB network on last night for maybe the Houston game?, and they had a bit with the sideline reporter and she botched the whole thing and they all just ended up laughing about how she fumbled her way through it. It was actually entertaining in a way since they had fun with it, but they basically just laughed and joked with each other at how badly she did her job.
  7. Is there anything to this and him not going to DL or just making a joke? CBS doesn't mention anything, still says DL likely
  8. I don't think so, their team is very good. Just rampaged by injuries this year. Their only clear weak spot would be OF and 2B. Have deep pitching depth, killed by injuries this year. and the best pitcher in baseball on the DL. Great closer over several years, who struggled so far this year due to resting spring training. All stars at 3B and SS both hurt. As long as they resigh Kershaw I'm sure they're just going to run it back next year and hope for better luck on the injuries.
  9. Either option seems fine to me. I could see them wanting the OF D and DHing Santana or giving every OF a day at DH. And I could see bringing Choi up too. No real opinion either way, but I guess I lean towards the offensive route so I go Choi. FWIW-I believe all MN pitchers are righties. Although, I'm guessing they go with Phillips due to Perez having whatever injury going on and he'd be the only backup OF right now.
  10. I don't disagree that he'll still have some good stretches, but to me that's part of the problem. If he just played like this all year, they could DFA him and play a better player regularly. But his occasional good stretches just keep toying with our emotions and when it's all said and done, he'll probably average out to a subpar bat at 1B/corner OF, just as you'd predict based on his age and injury history. Then you will be stuck wondering what could have been if they had just given all those pa's to a "career year" candidate in his healthy prime, like Aguilar or Choi. Just look at how his one good stretch last summer had people saying he's still the best hitter on the team "by far". Basically it would be a repeat of his fluke bounce-back in 2016 on a smaller scale, and played on repeat. I want no part of that roller-coaster. yea, I suppose it doesn't allow for an easy decision. But, those good stretches would be helping the team win. The money is spent anyway, might as well get something good out of it. But if injured and you have better options just DL it. Shoot the thumb up again, come back and contribute. Rinse/repeat. Yea just a tough spot to be in if he has flashes but still ends up 260/300 slash, if he plays 100-120 games and puts up 275/340 it's still helping the team. We'll see how the month or two after the DL stint go. As said, Jesus is going to regress and someone else will get hurt. Hopefully he can be ok and fill in those gaps.
  11. Obviously things don't look good right now, but i do think some of this is seriously jumping to conclusions over a very small sample. The injury crap is still there and will always be there of course. But the talk like he just can't play is probably a bit of a rush to judgment. Pump the brakes a little bit. Glance around the league and look at some proven player's stats. Of course this 'could' the beginning of the end but it's just too soon and overreaction to be talking like this. Take his DL stint, then he'll be back and let's see how the numbers look at the ASB. As I said before though I think, if when he's back the other top guys are still hitting why not just put him in the 6 spot. Also, good point by whoever brought up the low salary early on. he really only started getting paid big money (relatively speaking of course) in 2016. Of course with the PED stuff we'll have the take that he kinda stole some of this money to begin with, but from his perspective he's supposed to be overpaid in these years because he took less early to help them field winning teams then. One thing I thought of,as the team tries to compete the next few years would be negotiating more deferred for him than he already has, maybe he'd do that to help the team a bit.
  12. Yes, there is no need to give Bandy another month or two. It's obvious, give someone else a chance or find this year's Vogt pickup.
  13. I put this out one week ago. Today: Santana, 132 AB, .674 OPS Villar, 118 AB, .690 OPS Perez, 84 AB, .672 OPS Bandy, 58 AB, .509 OPS Pina, 91 AB, .665 OPS Arcia, 123 AB, .547 OPS Over the last week, Villar has raised his OPS by .049, Perez by .073, and Pina by .119. Throw in Saladino posting a 1.417 OPS and you have two winning series against two playoff-caliber teams. Cain, Yelich, Shaw, and Aguilar are having pretty good years. So was Thames before he got hurt. We just need a little life out of the rest of the guys and we've got a good team. Great post, thanks. Goes with one point I've brought up a few times. Those secondary players going from sub .200 terrible just up to mediocre will help a lot. Hopefully it keeps happening.
  14. At least they're going the DL route and not trying to force him to play hurt. He 'should' be able to contribute just fine if healthy but there's no need to play him hurt with the depth at OF on the team now. If he's hurt and it's affecting him, just go on the DL and play the other guys. 100 healthy games is better than 135 with 40+ of them played hurt. This is even more true once Thames is back.
  15. One announcer thing I've thought the last few years is why do you need so many people? You don't need tv booth guys. plus two other nelson/augy/coshun types on a booth on the field somewhere. Plus the actual announcers, plus a sideline person like her or Telly. The two announcers and two other people total at most is all you need.
  16. Exactly. the 2B, SS, and C positions going from sub .200 and awful just up to respectable competency will greatly improve the offense from the beginning of the season. Can't have an all star at every spot. That's happening lately, hopefully it keeps up.
  17. I'm not sure what people expect, she's a sideline report. All she can do is basic fluff type stuff. Do it competently without being obnoxious is all I ask. I think she does just fine and the Spanish addition is a big plus in baseball. She's from Madison from a good family too that everyone seems to like and I've had good interactions with, good to keep it local when you can.
  18. I never heard of it either and didn't say I did. But think of his reputation at that time. I'm sure it crossed their mind that he'd be a real problem to deal with in some way or another combined with that at the time he had been playing terribly for 1.5-2 years.
  19. One thing I don't think I've seen. I'd guess a hesitation was Puig. Have to remember at the time he was a bad attitude malcontent who was playing terrible and was sent to AAA. Not saying they still shouldn't have done the deal, just adding information but I'd guess that was a factor. Good chance he'd refuse to play here and you'd just have to cut him or give him away thus no ability to recoup any value in him.
  20. This game is as good as over. Might as well just go right to the bullpen.
  21. Right, the games are in a way slower, less exciting, more boring etc than in year's past. This comes into play for me with friends who are more casual fans not being nearly as excited to go to games now because they're typically low scoring. As said, it might be more conducive to winning. For Braun, yes to make his pay and the time on DL worth it he has to produce at a solid .800 ops type clip, or at least above .750 to keep respectability and to contribute to winning. 40 games isn't enough to write him off or anything considering just in 2016 he hit over 300 with 30 homers. But, it's certainly not a good sign. I've been boned by this in fantasy the last few years with guys like Batista, Matt Carpenter this year, Ian Desmond, Carlos Gonzales. It could happen.
  22. Really rooting for Woodruff today. Would like to see a good start out of him and have him stick around for a while, start the path to being a good reliable starter.
  23. I'll take it that guy, good find by whoever dug that up. Simply can't be worse than Bandy and shouldn't cost much.
  24. Knowing the off day though coming too though. Think of it this way, Monday was a late scratch so they didn't know it going in. So at that point you only have two games left then an off day. So if it's so minor that you think he'll be good by Friday then you might as well do what they did. Have Phillips in MN on Friday so if at that point Braun's not ready you do the DL. In those DH games I know I'd rather have him and his 268 obp over Perez and his 268 obp. I'd guess Phillips is the callup so that would be the other option. Still going Braun there if he's ok. If he's playing and being hampered though, I'd rather just DL it too. Basically, if you think he's fine by Friday it wouldn't make sense to DL him to give up 7 games (3 DH when he's more needed) just for those two games.
  25. we need his DH bat against Minny Ah I missed that in the schedule in the discussion yesterday on DLing Braun now to let him reset. Good guess that the DH coming is definitely a factor in not doing it.
