  1. I agree that if it's really 2-3 years only then why not, we should be involved and go for it.
  2. Where exactly? He isn't starting over Yelich, Cain or Santana. So if he can't hold up for 5-6 games a week at 1st we don't have many options. When healthy Braun is the best hitter on the team. He will be in the lineup when healthy aside from the routine days off like he's been getting for years now. It's really that simple. Yelich will go the RF and Santana would be the odd man out. And of course they'll rotate as much as possible. And they won't hesitate to toss him on the 10 day whenever he has anything pop up rather than him playing through or taking 3-5 days off. He still has 3 weeks to get more and more comfortable at 1B so hopefully a couple starts per week can come there. But if a trade doesn't happen with Santana, throughout the year this will take care of itself with injuries to all 4 guys here and there. It all becomes much easier though if Braun can play 1B adequately.
  3. Can't believe the cost and low risk here. I didn't really want Lynn but if 1/13 is all it took I probably would have just done that instead of a 3 or 4 year deal for Cobb or doing nothing.
  4. A's are a big sleeper team imo. Offense should be potent. Not saying playoffs or WS necessarily, but I'd be comfortable betting their team over on wins and wouldn't shock me if they end up 2nd in that division or at least above .500
  5. Villar goes. No brainer. Walker >>>>> Villar You could keep Villar and Sogard, and jettison Perez. His contract is not fully guaranteed as an arb guy. Sogard is better defensively and can cover most of what Perez could cover except CF, and we'll have 2 guys capable of CF on the roster(Cain/Yelich) with Villar as an emergency option. And in all fairness, I don't really care about wasting 2 million on Sogard if we sign Walker. It's highly likely someone else picks up sogard either on a waiver claim(paying his full salary) or after he is cut...in which case I believe they'd have to pay a portion. Regardless, the upgrade to walker on the roster vs sogard is well worth 2 million of wasted money. Sogard just had a career season at age 31. I'd rather keep the soon to be 27 year old run producer in Perez who's regression year last year is on par or better than what Sogard has done prior to last season. I like Sogard, I feel I'm just more prepared than most to see him as the player he has been most of his career rather than the one he was last season. If not for the financials I'd agree. However, management has a clear emphasis on good ABs and OBP these days. Sogard does that to a T, Perez is the exact opposite. Combine that with saving 1.5 million and I think Perez is the one to go. We talked about this in another thread too. But the issue does become that all your guys are Lefty besides Villar, who is better as a lefy. So platoons or planned days aren't as easy without Perez
  6. Kinda surprising the Yankees wouldn't take Moustakas at this price. Gives them a lefty bat to balance. I'd think it's cheap enough to stay under the tax but am no expert. Who knows, maybe that option year was the difference and maybe Moustakas would rather just stay comfortable at home
  7. I'm sure it was all about revenue to sell new merch but looking at that history you really have to wonder what the guys in charge of this were thinking in leaving the ball and glove in 93. It's not like dislike MB one after in anyway but the ball and glove is just perfect. In a way the MB one after is so rarely seen at this point that it's probably the most 'retro' one there is. I never seen anyone in that gear but I have old Burnitz jersey somewhere with it
  8. I've heard this repeated for years but I've never really felt not having Cain, Odorizzi, Jeffress, Escobar, and Lawrie would have made any significant difference in end results in 12-16. Cain obviously has been good but we had Gomez Braun Hart Aoki already. Escobar was replaced by Segura and Escobar has just been a good D player, nothing special overall. Odorizzi has been an adequate P but by no means a much ballyhooed 'needle mover'. Jeffress flopped and Lawrie flopped. That's how simply I look at it. This team has been hurt for 15 years (heck probably 30 years) on horrible pitcher drafting and development, that's the crux of it all. And if you'd have not gone for it you'd have wasted the prime of having two MVP level hitters at the same time. You had a 1-0 lead in the NLCS with home field advantage in the NLCS and WS. It worked, they just didn't execute it on the field.
  9. Comment of the day...couldn't agree more. Clicked on this thread planning to say the same thing. So glad he's gone. Kinda surprising a winning team wouldn't grab him as a 4th OF. Great fill in guy for injury and to step in with quality ABs as PH or in days off to starters.
  10. True, but who steps in at SS? Sogard is the best option there out of those three. Honestly, since they are all short term solutions I would have rolled with both Walker and Sogard and traded Perez. First, Perez would definitely have trade value. Secondly, his versatility to play OF really isn't needed this year. But main reason, I like guys who can PH where you have a good feeling they can put the bat on the ball or take a walk. Perez just has way too many bad ABs for my liking. Yup that's what was just discussed. Letting Perez go instead.
  11. Plus you have Walker to easily step in at 3rd if needed for Shaw and you can trust him to be much better than Perez/Sogard would be there.
  12. Yea it says in there a source confirmed it's guaranteed.
  13. I was surprised too when someone said it a few weeks ago here. I just googled to make sure I wasn't remembering wrong and it seems I was correct. https://www.mlb.com/news/eric-sogard-signs-1-year-contract-with-brewers/c-259781940
  14. Good point on Perez. I know I'd previously mentioned how Sogard's guaranteed deal might be blocking Walker in a way. I was thinking that just assuming Perez was a lock to stay with his versatility. But with so much flex in the other guys, Sogard's ability to play SS, and abundance of OF depth I now see this as the way to do it. One potential issue is that Perez would be the only righty. Villar I know is switch but much weaker righty. So makes lineups vs lefties a bit hard to figure out
  15. Yea the Bucks would have given Gallardo 5 years 70 mil rather than trading him like the Brewers did.
  16. I think the key to Miley is that they would be viewing him as a totally new pitcher vs what he was the last few years. It's not like they'd be planning on trotting out the same guy hoping for different results, they will have to see this change is legit and sustainable. Heck, it worked pretty well with Anderson.
  17. While I don't want to get into the year with either of them in the rotation do keep in mind we were playoff contenders last year with Garza. Still, if this Miley mechanics change is legit it wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened in baseball, far from it. Gallardo on the other hand just seems done to me. I'm not sure how Woodruff is looking so far but I sure hope one of the last spots would be his though since he has the long term upside and all that going for him. I still think we'll end up with one of the FA SPs though.
  18. I bet MKE had no idea the market would be so weak on Walker. I'd guess they wouldn't have given Sogard a guaranteed deal in that case and would rather have Walker. However, Sogard being able to play adequate SS is a big difference, but Walker is such a better player I'd rather have him and have Villar as backup SS. They might not want that with Villar's D but i'd gamble that Arcia stays healthy in exchange for the better player.
  19. If Pina were to get hurt though you'd be in a world of hurt. I like Lucroy and he ended up so drastically underpaid on his contract that I'm rooting for him to put some money in the bank. But on the other hand as a fan, I'd be happy if a very reasonable 1-2 year deal with us is the best he can do so he takes it.
  20. I'm doubtful that somehow he won't get a better offer. But you'd think they have to at least call and kick the tires. Find out what his situation is, options are, or his basic opennes on being in MKE.
  21. I think it's that if someone doesn't throw 97 or above they can't be considered a TOR prospect. ETA: I don't agree with that, I'm saying that is the notion though
  22. Or when they're about to be a FA. Not when they have 4-5 years of control left.
  23. Do all we can to acquire young cost controlled talent then want to trade them a year or two after they show they're good in order to get other young guys to trade once they're good. The life of a Brewers fan
  24. It's logical and safe to assume they're doing about the same throwing program on their own as they would be in camp. Just would be missing the one or two innings of game action they'd have
  25. Braun received MVP votes 2 seasons ago when he played in 135 games .305/.365/.538 - OPS .903 He needs to be healthy ... but when healthy he is still our best pure hitter (Yelich now pending). Was about to post the exact same thing. When healthy he is their best hitter and only two seasons ago he basically was healthy for most of the year. Yet the talk is as if he's a complete liability. I know there's all the Kemp talk but I'd rather just keep Braun. Kemp basically sucks at this point, if you're paying one I'd rather it be the one who's actually good when he's healthy
