  1. Every time watching games in this park I can't help but think how crazy it is Bonds broke all those records with that deep right field. Yea I know, PEDs, but still. Also a bit surprising knowing he was their star that they chose to build the right field that way. Imagine if he was in the current Yankee's right field instead. Even knowing the PED stuff it's insane what Bonds did for those years.
  2. Yes, you're definitely not focusing on something small here at all of a nitpick on phrasing But yea, I suppose I understand how on a baseball nerd site it's understandable someone definitely meant hit one solitary ball to the opposite field and that means your swing/approach is fixed. No way that person likely meant start 'hitting the ball' rather than 'hit a ball' He did hit another last night, sure it was a lazy fly but hey it was another. Creeping towards consistent basis
  3. You know full well that I did not mean hit one single ball to the opposite field. So, yes it is to pick a technicality/phrasing and now repeat on it like 3 times to prove you're right. Petty definition is something along the lines of: trivial, minor, of little importance. I'd say focusing on that qualifies.
  4. LOL yea because I thought it was common sense and didn't need to be said, but feel free to be petty all you want.
  5. Jeez man, do I really have to say "on a consistent basis"
  6. If I start seeing Adames hit a ball to the opposite filed again I'll be convinced his 260/330 type line from last year is coming back. He's turned himself into a boom/bust type with his back leg pull swing approach this year. Oddly, going for the launch angle upper cut type HR swing is also what torpedoed Keston's swing, hopefully it doesn't happen to Adames too.
  7. It was pointing out the regulars have not been good., those numbers are poor for a team that's supposed to be a contender. Yea it's debatable if he, Bross, Caratini count as regulars, as I mentioned. But he's been better than pretty much all of them. He takes his walks, when he hits the ball he hits it hard. That's more than most guys on this team. Yea as I said you can take it down to 'terrible for supposed contending team' if you want to make it more technically accurate. But we've been sitting here for 3 years making all kinds of mental gymnastics to convince ourselves our offense isn't a problem and is better than it seems. Reality is that the O is not good. And we sent down a guy who's been misused and is still doing better than the rest of these guys. That's not to say he's good, it's to say the rest are not doing well. I get this was mostly a roster rules/number crunch thing and chances are he'll back in two-ish weeks so it's probably much ado about nothing. But the reality is he should've been playing more the last two months and it's odd to send down a guy with over 800 ops, who's current hot, on a team littered with guys in the low 700s who are completely unimpressive. We can pick out his flaws and bash him. But lets apply to that Adames then too as he's all back leg and pulling for HRs now.
  8. I didn't say he was 'good'. I said the rest of the guys are worse. Maybe you should look at stats other than K%. Of regular players Keston has the highest OPS (unless you count Bross/Caratini as regular players). Same for OBP.. Without Huira they have no regular players over a .256 BA, No OBP above .345. No OBPs above 774. Again exception if you include Caratini/Bross as regulars. Keston is pushing 100 ops better than most regular players on the team, while being used against his splits and in sporadic pt. The team is like 23/24th in BA, Middle of the pack in OBP/OPS. This is bad, maybe terrible is too far without the qualification of "terrible for contending teams" or something of that nature. We can't just keep burying our head in the sand, the O has been a consistent problem for 3 years now. Yeli being OK lately has helped, Keston being good lately has helped. But still need guys like Adames/Urias to be more like last year.
  9. Sure you can nitpick and say regression is coming or that he's not that good. He doesn't have to earn a spot over Babe Ruth. The brewers offense is terrible and he's a better hitter than almost all of them. Yea, I of course see the flaws in Huira but the other guys are worse. Its simply an indicator of how bad the O is that he's at least one of their top 2-3 hitters. It's been a bit odd to me that he's this big whipping boy and picked on by the fans but so many other guys just get a free pass
  10. Yea I popped on today after seeing that news but was surprised to see no discussion of it, unless it was in the game thread. It makes no sense, he's finally hitting OK. And OK is better than everyone else on the team. He's added being able to passably play LF. If I recalled correctly when the catcher situation happened preseason I thought Severino (possibly caratini too) had options so could be sent down. My memory could be off, but 3 catchers just seems weird, especially with a near every 1B on the team. I also thought if Yeli is hurt why not pop him on the DL to finish to the break, he'd be eligible to come back after. There would be the roster spot they need. Only thing I could think of, without checking minors schedule, would be they want to send him down now and let him play every day through the break then bring him back afterwards. Like I said, I didn't check the schedule and if their ASB is now too. If it is then this doesn't make sense.
  11. You'd probably be paying over 80 mil per year for those 4 players. If we were a normal team, ok sure, but I can't imagine they can take on that kind of money. If they didn't have the Yeli albatross it would really help as you could shift his money to a P, unfortunately they're stuck though. As said, Burnes is Cy Young ace level and young, very good chance he pushed it all the way to FA to cash in the 300+ mil Gerrit Cole contract. Maybe he's a risk adverse person and takes the money in hand, but he's the least likely to sign imo as he has the 300+ payday coming. Woodruff OTOH, he's older and not quite as good. I'd guess there could be a middle grounds with him where he puts the money in the bank and doesn't risk the Jimmy Nelson situation. My guess is the financial relationship with Hader is poor right now and isn't likely to resign barring we massively overpay a reliever. He's counting down the days to his FA payday. It really wouldn't surprise me if he demands a trade in the offseason so he can sign a long term deal with that new team and not have to gamble another year.
  12. Both stars with good contact vs him in the game already too. The old 3rd time through the lineup issue. Fresh pen tonight, yea I could see the argument to go to the pen early and get this win locked in
  13. I had MLB tv on all day today. Mad Dog, pretty sure but could've been someone else since I wasn't 100% paying attention, basically went on a tangent on how the ASG needs to get a way to have all 3 of the retiring Cards in it. Like they're all all-time greats or something, then got into something about rare it is for 3 HOF or near HOF guys to be on the same team retiring together and that's why. I mean, if it was in STL of course, but it's not. I can understand Pujols being given the last spot in a send off type of way, he's a legit all time great (though he's being a bit ignored because he's hung on too long), but beyond that gimme a break.
  14. Not an absolute must call there on the DP interference. But I think we've all seen weaker things called before. Of course, if it was called I'd totally understand Phi being upset by it too. Could've gone either way, I probably lean towards should've been called since he popped up into him
  15. I don't know, I still don't see where he's going to get many ABs. Wong will play almost all 2B. Tellez will play almost all days at one of 1B/DH. And McCutchen is back any day now. Keston can't play 3B so it doesn't change much, if he's not the guy sent down when McCutchen is back he's still likely only going to get vs LHP starts. Unless they do decide to follow the splits thing and play him over McCutchen, but I strongly doubt they're going to do that. For Huira to get regular almost every day ABs an injury to Wong or Tellez would likely have to happen
  16. General agree with everyone here. Generally side more with the 'hey there's worse AAAA guys out there to have in case they're needed". Our health with starters the last years has been very lucky so there's a good chance something will happen and a person or two will hit the DL and a few spot starts could be needed here or there. Or, maybe a bullpen day where he's called up for ability to eat a few innings. Don't think I saw it mentioned yet either, is the possibility of doubleheaders and that they're 9 innings again could be a day where he's the extra guy called up as insurance policy.
  17. Ok there it is, there's more info and accusations now, not just the one which he had all those texts backing himself up.. Now it makes sense.
  18. Not gonna claim I've dug deep into this, only surface level basics. But this seems pretty extreme to me, considering he's basically already been suspended a year. Best I could tell this suspension goes from here, the least almost year isn't counted in that. Could've misread though. I'd guess this is going to be a long legal battle, lawyers on each side are buying new boats as we speak.
  19. True. But being likely one of the true elite pitching teams along with LAD, if the offense could just get to average rather than below average should be enough to have a solid chance come playoffs. Asking this bunch to actually become good is too much to ask, only way that could've happened was if Yelich and/or Huira became their old selves. Sure it's frustrating to watch sputtering offense every day, but big pic with this pitching they're likely to win the division and a good shot at the top two seed for the bye. I know it's frustrating being in the playoffs and losing for several years, but once you're in you have a chance in baseball. As MKE fans we jsut have to understand you're almost always going to be underdogs at that point, just the nature of the financials of baseball. But this is the sport with the most chance for underdogs winning in postseason, especially if you're an elite pitching teams. Do it enough times and hopefully it falls your way once.
  20. Sure, in an ideal world. Don't think you want risk a fight with him and his agent which would've led to a trade demand (since w'ere not going to give him 100 mil) in one of the last offseason. So the consensus agreement for what's best for the team is to have him on it as a 1 inning guy rather than the prospects they'd get back. I laughed at the heart of the order stuff a couple times too as he said Gamel's name...
  21. That's probably a bit of a tough guy approach too much. This is dealing with a complicated contract issue and it relate to his health and injury risk. But look it up, the info got out before the last post season, most likely when Williams got hurt. I saw Hader randomly on MLB tv in the day late in the year, possibly in the playoffs and he was asked about it. He flat out said it's not an option to do more than one inning and seemed pretty set on it. Now, of course you get to NLCS/WS he probably changes his tune quite a bit.
  22. Yea it seems clear he'll be the one out when Urias is back. It's probably odd to say as I know he misses the ball so often, but I still feel like when he actually hits the ball he hits hard or it has juice to it. So I kind of want him up more than others. Same with Taylor.
  23. Phrase it however you want. He and has agent told the team he wants to do 1 innings only. Team agreed, here we are. Keep in mind they had some contention over his arb eligibility and I'm sure he'd prefer to lock in a big multi year deal. So he's having to play on one year deals. I'm sure the team understands his view and don't want a fight, so they said Yes. There was a game earlier this year, 1-2 run elad in the 8th with a bunch drama in the 8th when Williams was struggling and at like 35 pitches. Hader never got up in spite of leftys coming. The two out batter was a lefty and I think Williams was left in. In the past tha'ts Hader to get 4 outs
  24. Yea that's a trend I haven't liked the last few years. However, after word got out late last year of Hader refusing to pitch more than one inning along with how they moved the multi inning relievers (Burnes/Wood/Freddy) to the rotation it's somewhat forcing his hand
  25. Yea he truly looks miserable. Baseball is such a tough game and he has to be so frustrated. Then you get in your own head and its tough to get out of it. He does seem to have a sense of humor about it at least. But even still you you can't help but feel bad for him, of course knowing he gets 175 mil for it you can't feel all that bad. I know no one is really all that great of a hitter for MKE so not like there's a ton of better options but they really have to put him lower in the lineup until he shows something. I agree it's not a lost cause, just get back to being borderline AS level and it's enough not to kill us.
