  1. Yea I wouldn't say that 'too cool' as in a smug type way, he just seems like a shy, quiet, or naturally introverted type person to me. From the obviously limited insight we have to his personality.
  2. They were pretty good in 2018 and technically had Chacin/Miley as their top 2 when the playoffs rolled around. Current version Anderson would be in the same ballpark as them. I think I'd end up picking Chacin but generally speaking those guys are similar. It's really crazy what they pulled off in 2018 with their unconventional methods, too bad they didn't win it all or it probably would be remembered as an all timer level of management by all involved.
  3. Yea I saw that too. I've seen Votto several times on random stuff the last two years while being home and he seems about as good of a dude as you can ask for in the game. Probably has a future on TV if he wants it.
  4. Besides the drop off from Avi to Taylor have to factor in the drop from Taylor to whoever the new depth guy is, chances are he won't be nearly as good as Taylor. And with how injury prone/old guys like Cain, Yeli, JBj, and even Taylor has been on the DL that 5th guy is likely gonna play a lot.
  5. I'd agree with most here it's very unlikely he'd be back. However, just adding that in spite of the obvious glut next year causing the issue, that goes away in 2023 when Cain/JBJ are off the books. So just saying as long as the annual value isn't brutal a 2-3 year deal could make sense to have some stability past next year. Of course this would assume MA bites the bullet on high payroll next year since we're in 'go for it' mode. I guess I'm just saying it's a one year thing they might choose to eat it and then it goes away with close to 30 mil off, as well as losing the depth/players themselves so 2023 would have to remake the OF. Also, let's not forget how all of a sudden Yeli has been nagged by injury a lot too. Still, I'd expect them to try and find a different guy than Avi who's similar but younger/cheaper. The JBJ contract really biting them here. I guess 'somewhat of a lesson to the spend money on something or you're cheap' crowd. Of course, how can you blame anyone for this kind of fall off for a multi year proven player like JBJ though.
  6. I have the Cards game on in the background. Not fully paying attention but they're talking about Molina playing one more year then HOF etc. Somehow they get talking about if Pujols played one more year then they could go in together, fine. Then it gets to Wainwright and him playing one more and all three at once. Been some HOF talk here. I hadn't even thought of Wainwright for it. He's at 179 Ws, 3.36 ERA, 2K strikeouts. 3x all star, no Cy Youngs. Do most think he's a HOFer? I would be really surprised if he's first ballot to line up with their talk of all 3 in the same year. I haven't done a deep dive into this or thought about it before but my instinct/gut is he's not quite at that level to make it at all. Certainly open to being wrong on that though and note I was half listening so could've missed some things.
  7. Right. And essentially this is why the Escobar trade was so good, it gave us depth for an injury at any spot so a guy like Pablo/Shaw would be one more slot down the list. Granted, its Escobar who is the one hurt as of now (hopefully Adames doesn't need DL) but the idea remains the same. They're still solid with Urias, Adames, Wong. Reyes is there in case of emergency and will play good D if needed. As much as I know Reyes isn't a starter in MLB, as your AAAA utility type guy to play in emergency you could do worse, and he can cover SS too if needed. It kind of just is what it is, you're not going to have a starter level player sitting in AAA all year.
  8. I'd agree on Votto as of now. If this revival he's going through right now leads to say two more solid years to help out his HR and hit totals, it becomes a lot closer and probably tils towards in. An MVP that finishes with around 425 HRs and BA over .300 (and very high OBP for him) would probably get in eventually. But right now he's in the lower 300s in HRs and 2000 hits, which probably isn't enough and was trending poorly the last few years before this revival.
  9. Yea off day coming Monday, he's warmed up and hasn't pitched in a few days. Might as well just let him roll right away. If he'd been used a lot lately, sure sit him down. That said, it's not like doing it this was was egregious or anything, could go either way.
  10. I'd rather get the 35% chance someone else eliminates them before we have to play them.
  11. Sure, if we knew the Reds were somehow winning the WC you'd take the 1 seed. Otherwise, I think you choose to be on the side of the bracket opposite of LAD and hope for the best. Getting the 1 seed opens up the possibility of playing them in NLDS, getting the 2 eliminates that chance so I think I go that route every time. I suppose if LA catches SF to win the division then again I'd prefer to be 1 seed for home field and Reds/SD/SF aren't monsters like LA. But even if LA gets 1, we get 2 at least we're still opposite side of bracket from them.
  12. Yea I'd still guess umps are better now than 25 years ago due to the technology kind of forcing them to be better since they're graded on it. We just see the scrutiny in real time whereas years ago we had no way of knowing. Off the top of all our heads, just think of the 3-6 inches Maddux/Glavine used to get off the plate. But, that doesn't mean it can't easily be improved by robots. I'm all for it. This guy has been rough tonight, both ways.
  13. As long as the Cardinals don't pick up Rafael Furcal I don't think we have to worry about them. Reds down 3-0 to start vs the Cubs today too.
  14. I thought his view on the grip stuff was kinda clear even though he couldn't straight up say it. He complained so many people were doing it. But when they didn't crack down, he basically said 'fine, I'm gonna do it too'. Really not unlike what Bonds did. but yea, that's the least of his worries at this point.
  15. MVP discussion going on MLB network today. They're going big into the Adames debate in that he wasn't on the team or in the NL the first two months. Essentially, can or should someone traded mid season, especially to the opposite league, win the awards? The Sabathia situation seems relevant to MKE fans too. Seems like a good discussion, curious what people think even though we're obviously bias? For me, first it always seemed odd to me how they reset a players stats when they switch leagues. So, I don't agree with how it hurts their counting stats and anyone who says they're ineligible since they're not tops in any categories (as some might be if you counted both leagues). I think my conclusion would probably be that if you only came over at the deadline it would be pretty tough for me to justify the awards for two months. In the Adames case though, he came over two months prior so I don't think he should be an automatic rule out. Considering the specific impact he's had and his stats in what will end up being 2/3s of the year in this league (and having played the other third in the other) I'd think he should be considered. If Tatis didn't get hurt it would be over, but there's no clear cut run away winner so an odd one like Adames is possible in a year like this. Normally, it would be pretty tough or difficult though.
  16. I know I've gotten teh same nervous vibes on Wiliams but the reality is he hasn't given up a run in like 12 outings. Obviously 0 since off the DL either. Before today he'd had 3 BBs and 3 hits in 6 innings/appearances since coming back. He's been fine. Sometimes guys are gonna blow a game though, it's baseball Looking at radar. They should take a short break and just get going again
  17. Have to admit my WI sports pessimism kicked in yesterday with the lead down to 5 with Reds playing well and their schedule being so easy to finish along with our covid bullpen. You'd think the Bucks win would've helped with that but I guess it'll take time to kick the habit. No way I would've been able to play for Coach Cooper.
  18. If someone is bored and has the time maybe accumulating a list of when each player is eligible to come back wouldn't be a bad thing? Yeli is today, I can't remember how far behind some of the Ps were but hopefully 1-2 are coming up soon.
  19. Being vaccinated doesn't necessarily mean you are immune. There is a greater chance you won't feel the effects or they will be mild. None of the vaccines are 100% effective. I get "not 100% effective" but this isn't just a random outlier. This is a lot of players testing positive. Were these guys actually vaccinated or was that just a fake thing reported to the media? Or are the vaccines really this bad? Well it was reported they got the JJ one shot which was lower. But the main thing is that's not how the vaccines work, you can still get it, you just won't get sick. From what I understand it help reduce the chances of getting (though don't hold me to that) but that 95% number you here is in regards to getting legit bad sick from it, not being able to get it. Presumably many normal people like us who are vaccinated but not subject to testing like these guys have had this pass through us while we've all started living again, but we didn't feel sick beyond any normal daily not feeling good stuff so we'd never bother getting tested. These players though are in a different situation with the testing protocols.
  20. The trade itself is working itself out to be a general win/win at this point. However, 'd say the biggest X factor to this would be that if we hadn't done it and had a planned 2020 OF of Braun, Cain, Yeli, with Grisham as the 4th we possibly don't sign Avi since we have 4 guys already. Then we go into 2021 with Grisham, Cain, Yeli. Do we sign Bradley for the 4th, possibly but maybe not. So we might have 20-25 mil extra money to spend without. In theory, if Arcia continued to struggle the Adames trade wouldn't be affected. Thing is I'm not really even sure where they'd have efficiently spent it otherwise, Turner wasn't going to leave LA. Castellanos would've been the big what if, but like how I started with this we'd have already had Braun, Yeli, Cain, Grisham so don't think OF money is where it would be spent. Maybe they could've gotten him and played him at 1B? Donaldson last year to an NL team didn't make sense to me, but that could've been.
  21. Think today is the day Dodgers jump to my disliked/hated categoroy with Cards, Sox, Yanks, Cubs. Never really had any beef with them and their players other than machado. They've just run everything so well and didn't get a title until last year so I felt they deserved one. Now they have one, and do this on top of their already loaded team. Baseball really does have to address the disparitie.s good post above on their development, spot on.
  22. Same. I don't know where they're gonna play all these guys but I'll take it. I suppose Stanton will be hurt again soon enough though. And I did see Judge playing some CF this year too so we'll see. So many big hitters it's crazy they probably have no chance at the division still. They got smacked by TB again today
  23. Yup, has Pomeranz written all over him to me. But like you said, not cheap and is injured so definitely a chance he doesn't contribute at all this year.
  24. This guy popped in my head as a sneaky one for us to get. Out for a few more weeks so shouldn't cost much other than money. Then we could use him in the Burnes/Woodruff type multi inning relief role of the past, come in for 2-3 innings and throw gas. Think Pomeranz when we got him. But, I'd guess they plan on Houser/Lauer transitioning to those spots for the playoffs.
  25. I don't know Funchess's contract situation, but I know I'd rather have Cobb than him. Definitely prefer to keep the young guys who showed tools last year, but Funchess is a nothing to me so I don't mind that as a swap at all. Plus all accounts are Cobb is a top notch guy, he'll probably be a big help to Rodgers the WR as a mentor/coach, etc.
