  1. Kinda feel bad laughing at it, but couldn't help but do it when they shot off the fireworks for a solo HR in the 7th while down 7 runs. I know you gotta do what you gotta do and we were right there with them in that boat for 20 years so I feel the pain, but that just seemed odd. They probably purchase so many a season and don’t want them to go bad? But I hear what you’re saying. I’m still in awe we finally have leadership that is consistently giving us enjoyable seasons. Wish this could be pinned on every thread. What we are experiencing has never been done in our history. Consistently competitive is a nice change of pace. ---- And it was exactly what Stearns said when he took over, he's delivering exactly on that plan. long term multi year competitiveness like the Cardinals, rather than 'all ins' then sucking type style. It's kind of his Barry Alvarez 'better get your season tickets right now' quote.
  2. Feel like this would be a good time to get at least one of Hader/Williams an inning tonight. I'd probably lean towards Williams, fresh off the DL, ease back into a bit rather than thrown into a 1 run game.

  4. I kind of chuckled at this one. Yanks are 8.5 back in the division and one of their biggest problems is their whole lineup is HR or bust types (outside of DJ who's struggled for him). And they still trade for a guy very similar. I guess he's controlled another year and lefty HR hitters in Yankee stadium is a plus, but just seems like classic Yanks questionable move to me. Granted, I don't know anything of those prospects but you'd think 1-2 have some legit value.
  5. Nice, for that cost I'll take it over paying out a ton for a bigger name. Biggest thing to me is it covers them in case of injury to pretty much anyone on the IF. Kind of eliminates the need for guys like Shaw or Reyes getting a meaningful at bat going forward. I just ran through his bball reference and looks like he's never played 1B. Listed at only 5'10. He has dabbled in the OF but it's been a couple years. I'd expect him to get up to speed at 1B though and be the vs lefties player at 1B (I think someone just posted he's better vs lefties). Plus get a couple starts a week elsewhere around the IF.
  6. And how strict is the quarantine, like can he get a personal coach to do BP with, etc? A mental break is probably good for him right now and maybe taking some time to focus without game pressure on fixing things could possibly help (IDK of course). But yes as was just said, not ideal to deal with this at the same time, especially if he's not allowed to do anything but sit in his house.
  7. Maybe this at least leads to the SEC playing 9 game schedules. I'd hope they eliminate the 1AA games they're allowed now, but I'm skeptical of that as I think they'll still want that basically free bye week.
  8. Good posts by most here. I haven't watched but see the summary and but getting the vibe based off these posts, thanks. Thought some of OSS's after watching this seemed good even keeled perspectives. One small thing to add to some comments generally about them deeming players not worthy of the pay, etc. Another factor is them knowing how key Rodgers is to their performances. I mean, it's not surprising they drop off when they leave due to age, but also because they're no longer playing with the best QB in the league, and possibly ever. Essentially, they know they can replace them for much cheaper because Rodgers will make the next guy better too. And these are the shrewd decision that need to be made when paying the QB this much money, and it's also why the QB is worth that much money. Could they have handled it smoother and treated the guys better, more cordial, or with more 'class' or whatever you want to call it. IDK, I guess so if they and Rodgers think so. But when it comes down to it, the result was gonna be the same, they weren't going to be on the team. So maybe management doesn't have the best people skills, but seems their assessment skills on offense are pretty spot on (other than on D for like 8 years) and that's what matters.
  9. Big lefty power bat also plays very well in Miller Park, he should get a slight boost here. That said, if they have a godfather offer on the table we don't need to pay that. I'd gladly take Mancini for much less.
  10. If that buyers market tweet is accurate, and logically it makes sense that it would be, you have to think they acquire someone of substance here to help out on the offense if it doesn't really thin our already weak system. It's not like we can't say Stearns has been very active in deadlines over the years. Besides obviously a reliever or two, I'm now expecting a bat of some kind. I agree with all on Gallo. Not too thrilled on the Max to the West rumors but what can you do. Hopefully he ends up with Boston.
  11. Texas already recruits through the roof and can't win in a so-so conference so I don't think this helps much. They get the pick of the litter in TX and screw it up. Best I can tell the logic for both of them is SEC will be more money combined with the Big12 is prone to being snubbed for the CFP due being weak. And just basically they can tell Big 12 and Pac 10 are considered the second class conference in football and are trying to get ahead of the problem and see the future of the 4 conf situation and would prefer to get those spots in SEC before someone else does. Maybe long term they're right. Short term, I'm with you in that I'd rather keep winning in the Big 12, not like OU doesn't make the playoffs a lot, than go into the SEC juggernaut. Compare to to WI, would you rather keep winning the B1G West or go to the East and have 2-3 losses per year. I guess I've heard some rumbling about them podding the SEC into 4 team groups so they might avoid the current SEC West ridiculousness and get a TX, OU, AM, Mizz or Ark type grouping which isn't too bad other than years were you get matched vs the Bama/Auburn/LSU? pod. Though if you do it geographically LSU/Bama should be split.
  12. Right OSS, that's the funny part. Management was pretty much correct on every decision to move on from WRs and OLs (his likely buddies and people he was mad were gone). They smartly paid them to their upper 20s/early 30s then let someone else overpay for their declining years. That's 100% correct management and how to maintain a contender for years and years, especially while having to pay a QB 35 mil. Speculation, but I wonder if them knowing Rodgers has been whining led them to pay Bakhtiari the big contract as he approaches that age. he is at the next level and LT rather than interior line, so my guess they'd have paid him anyway. But knowing they're buddies and Rodgers is complaining probably made it a no brainer they had to do it.
  13. This will all be interesting to see how it shakes out. I think in past discussions of playoffs and stuff on here I mentioned the likelihood of 4 conferences eventually, didn't expect the ball to roll this quickly though. For the B1G. IA state makes the most sense geographically and with rivals, etc. They're also good at both sports, but brings no prestige or TV aspects. Kansas football is garbage. OK St is good at both but I don't think fit the academics. Some of the ACC programs would be more appealing, especially UNC, but don't fit geographically. UNC and UVA would probably the dream adds, outside of ND. Thing to note is from what I understand if ND joins a conference it basically has to be the ACC, but they do have unlimited money so you never know how they can finagle things. If you managed to get the dream add in ND then you can take a blah one like IA St. It also helps balance the divisions with ND joining us, moving Purdue over. But knowing ND, they'd demand to be with OSU/MI for the marquee aspects. Gonna be a crazy few months.
  14. I get the history and all but if Garrett got suspended last time there is no reason Baez shouldn't be suspended this time.
  15. Gives him a break to recharge the batteries, maybe figure some things out and go on another September binge. Maybe that should be in the optimism thread.
  16. Right, everyone knows this is possible. Which leads me to think these protocols might be a bit excessive, guys can still technically get it but the vaccine vastly reduces the seriousness of it for all involved.
  17. No, that would not be me. I have not participated in quite some time. I'd agree on the 'telling about' point, the action is the action. He's gonna take it this way regardless, maybe not as extreme but he's not stupid and would see the writing on the wall on his non guaranteed money and after 2021, every idiot fan knew it by the end of draft night. Maybe a talk about the future planning could've helped(which probably leads to not making the pick), but a 5 min heads up does nothing so I agree with you there. Your predecessor point isn't quite accurate. Yes 13-3 but he had spent years and years contemplating retirement and holding them hostage, and did the same that offseason. Plus, he routinely threw boatloads of picks. But it's accurate in the having the stones to stand by your assessment and move on from an aging QB, previous regime was right, we'll see if these guys are right on Love. Rodgers had given no indication of retiring and had said he wanted to play into his 40s. If he doesn't like he can pound sand point: well, then this is the result you get and that is what as of now looks like the botching. That's not to say Rodgers isn't being a stubborn ego maniac type. But if you take a go pound sand approach to him and he says, 'fine I'm outta here then, after all that's what you wanted' you can't be too suprised. Bottom line, if they didn't make that pick I don't think they'd be at this point, butterfly effect etc. All the other stuff he's obviously been wining about wouldn't have been enough to get to this (assuming they gtd some more money/years for him). Obviously that's just a guess though. To the last few posts about him being good for 3-4 more years. Yea, of course an injury can happen anytime at this age. But the guy was just the MVP and played as good as he ever did. So obviously there's 1-2 left, not hard to get to 3-4. The current NFL doesn't let QBs get hit. The other elite QBs of his era in Brady, Manning, Brees all made it to early 40s at high levels of play and winning tons of games.
  18. Well I was surprised when I saw that stat and went to look up Suter's ERA, never would've guessed it was that solid. Yet another positive.
  19. Yes, they never should have traded up to draft a QB round 1 when one game away from the SB when you have a HOF QB still playing at least a top 5-10 level signed to a 4-5 year contract and has given no indication of wanting to retire, while actually saying he'd want to play into his 40s. Plus, as you say he's a stubborn hard head with an ego and they should've known that and how he'd take this and act. Essentially, their assessment that he was declining to the point they might want to move on after 2021 and get out of the contract were wrong. That's what they were looking at doing and he's not stupid and now he's being a stubborn prick about it to spite them. Certainly see their logic and all that, but with hindsight it was clearly a huge mistake as of now (unless they end up being right about Love like the previous admin was about Rodgers). This likely turned another 3-4 years of championship contention into one year. But of course that can change if Love ends up being good.
  20. And if the knock on Urias is in regards to typical 3b power. He's at 13 HR now after a pretty poor start to the year. Post like April he's probably on a 25ish HR type pace, pretty normal or solid for a 3B really, especially in a massive down year for hitting. My biggest concern on Urias is still every time he throws the ball.
  21. Plus, will they actually not play Narvaez in the postseason vs lefties? With the off days in the postseason it's not as necessary to get the C his off days by missing games like in regular season. He does have drastic splits, but his approach this year is so solid with the opposite field and with how weak Manny has been I'd think they just play him every game. So with a 7ish game lead right now this probably isn't a big priority( to trade for someone who might not play in postseason anyway). Obviously that's speculation, if they do not want to play him vs lefties it makes this moot.
  22. Yea after the initial struggles after Johnson left I was definitely skeptical on Hook. To my best memory, the biggest things I didn't like was it seemed many guys wouldn't throw secondary pitchers, too many fastballs. But since then he's obviously proven any doubters wrong. Along with just the pitching coach at MLB level, it seems they have an entire organizational structure/plan on pitching that is working very well. At this point we just have to give benefits of the doubt on almost anything.
  23. I think it's not so much the mounds are built different. Its that previous pitchers beat it up as the game goes on, their feat hit in different places, etc. so They need to get their landing zone sorted and make sure it's all good. Just don't see this as too much of a solution these days with all the player safety emphasis. IDK what the rule is now, say they get 5 mins maybe you can trim to 4, but 30-60 seconds a couple two three times a game is not getting you too far and again it doesn't really get to the pace/slowness of the play.
  24. Right, the biggest thing is simply the nature of the game and you can't change that. It's also been pushed to be worse as moneyball thinking made everyone realize the value of walks, thus drawing out ABs. Sure trimming innings would reduce total length of game, but the pace etc is still the same. Though, there is of course more urgency (Better word?) if it's only 7 innings, basically every inning/out/run means more then. Really the main thing that could make it seem more lively or exciting is finding a way to put more balls in play, swing earlier in counts, and have more runners on base ,but there's no easy way to do it. Oddly, the extra inning rule does it but many people don't like that it seems too much, so, no easy way to do it. It's just the nature of the game. Count me in the group that finds NFL boring due to commercials. I got burned out on it 10-12 years ago as they crammed down our throats while extending the commercials, if my team wasn't consistently one of the best teams I'd barely watch. Sunday afternoons are my best napping times the last few years and not on purpose, I fall asleep watching the games. One random year my cable tier had the redzone channel, and that actually kept me interested. But then it was gone the next year so back to watching the packer game and sleeping through or not watching any other.
  25. Yea if a runner on 2nd is too gimmicky then a HR contest is drastically beyond that so doesn't solve anything
