  1. Anyone else not like the layout on the TV yesterday? Basically with it all being a line at the bottom instead of a box in the corner. I'm sure I'll get used to it but I prefer the boxes in the corner we've gotten accustomed to.
  2. Jimmy G going back to the Pats? I really haven't seen any solid info on it today but I think he has a no trade clause and that seems like a logical spot if they have any space left after their spending spree.
  3. Interesting idea. How confident are we in Cain being solid this year is probably the key here? Plus of course will they give us anything back who has a legit shot to contribute for us in the future. Seems Taylor has done well in spring, and held his own last year, where you could probably get by with him as the 4th. In general, I'd guess we don't do it unless they give us legit prospects (which they won't), I don't think we'll just give away to save some money.
  4. We were taught 3 feet (well 1 meter, but US...) for respiratory diseases in grad school. I have absolutely no idea how that became 6 feet and I've spent a good amount of time looking. Maybe just 'safe than sorry' type thing with an unknown thing? A lot of things early on seemed to be like that. Plus, if you say 6 then hopefully it's enough to stick in their head about keeping a gap, even if it ends up in the same 3-4 ish area you really want. Basically just asking for a bit more while knowing most won't actually get all the way there? IDK, just spitballing but you see that type of thing in a lot areas of life. But yea, as you or someone just said then why say something like this that opens up contradictions, just wait and see etc. Especially now with people lightening things up already, why give them more ammo to loosen up more. ETA: just popped into my head. Maybe the 6 number started from the early on push about droplets/surfaces (rather than respiratory) and all that and it stuck from there?
  5. The extra roster spot does make this an option this year. However, with 4 high paid OFs already that becomes an issue and might not really have much need other than DH, LH PH, or Sept call ups. Which, is he really going to go through all this for so little. So it kind of seems to me that he should stay in shape, take BP and then see how things play out with injuries and health to the other OFs. Can step in mid season if a need arises. Another key thing for me would be if he's fine with playing in AAA or Appleton for 1-2 weeks to get some practice and rhythm back, see how he looks etc. If the Brewers are contending it's going to be a tough sell to give him several games worth of ABs as kind of practice. To me I guess its something to have in my back pocket but nothing I'd be planning on and I'd be hoping things go well enough to not need.
  6. I'd venture some guesses on this and it mostly comes to perception being skewed. First, simply that we have only had a few playoff opportunities in 35 years, so we kind of amplify them. Teams like, LA, NY, BOS have had countless opportunities so eventually they're going to have things go their way, just the law of averages. MKE, not yet. Heck, you use Turner as a example which my vibe without checking stats is he's always been solid, however it took LA what 8-10 years of playoff tries to finally win? Yankees won in roughly 2010 and have been puttering out for 10 years straight now in spite of every advantage. But since a team with totally different players won 10 years ago they're not chokers then. Second, factor to me would be that we're always the underdog which also lowers your chances. So we kind of get mad about choking/blowing it but really you went into an uphill battle. Another perception thing would just be the titles or bust mindset these days pushed by the media. Take the LAD NLCS year. That team won two rounds of playoffs and took a loaded team to game 7. That's not choking or not being able to handle the big stage, etc. I don't know, just spitballing a bit.
  7. Exactly right. In this year's suppressed cap market I never thought he'd get that much. And at that number you know GB doesn't have room to do it. If he was getting say 10-12 offers elsewhere and GB would make 8-9 work, well then yea maybe. That's kind of what I thought/hoped it could work out here. And yes AZ is not bad and could make some noise, especially with Sea seemingly falling apart and SF all of a sudden being a big question mark. Rams obviously a strong team for this year but their cap situation is going to hit them a bit more every year from here out
  8. Yea I'm definitely surprised by that one. Seems a fair guess that was his largest money deal. So money talks rather than true title contention. It's not like AZ is bad though, definitely could make the playoffs and then who knows. Just thought he'd want to be on a more proven close team
  9. Very happy with the Chryst playcalling being back. I've been asking this for a bit now as they weren't being clear who was calling the plays, which to me implied Rudolph was or they'd have just said Chryst. Frankly the O just hasn't been to the level needed since PC came back. They need to get back to the 2009-11ish level again. Pair that with our current D level and you have a shot. I was worried this wouldn't happen until Rudolph got a HC job so I'm glad they did it anyway. I was hoping Rudolph would get a job at Miami Ohio type place. They'd bring Bostad back to OL and let PC be OC again. Hire a new LB coach. But this is a close 2nd and I like the hiring of another D coach as well instead of another offensive coach. I thought they were unbalanced by one and they corrected it. Still want Bostad back at OL but maybe he doesn't want to do it, I'd guess he would if Rudolph left but no inside info anything, just guessing.
  10. Or it is real but from a team he doesn't want to play for without a title chance. But, get that out and maybe it moves a contending team from say 8ish up to 10-12 area and then that's good enough. ETA: agree with the below. similar to Brewers offseasons, best to sit back and not worry about daily clickbait stuff. just wait and see
  11. Assuming Linsley is gone and Wagner is already been released. You've lost 2/5 of one of your strongest units while Bak is still recovering from a serious injury and could miss the start of the year. What is the plan there, I know they did well with the one backup this year but this would need a lot of attention and we saw what happened vs TB. This is the somewhat unspoken key to the offense and the reason any RB they've plugged in has done well. And of course Rodgers can't get hurt so he can't go back to running for his life like a few years ago.
  12. I'd guess done after this year as well. But, if DH comes to NL next year it opens up 15 more jobs for him. He'd pretty much have to play for peanuts (relative to what he's used to) but someone might be willing.
  13. Of course he's a shell of himself and this probably speaks more to how poorly the rest of the team has hit the last two years, but Braun was probably around 3rd-4th best hitter on the team at through those years. The term replacement level seems to be get taken a bit too literally at times as the Brewers certainly haven't had much success at it lately. I'm fairly optimistic on some bounce backs this year though so I'd be really disappointed if he was 3rdish on the team this year. I think the no DH thing killed it for him along with there is still going to be a lot of covid limitations going on, which he clearly hated. Yea wouldn't be the worst September call up though if they need a depth/PH. Give him 2-3 weeks of prep time in August to get ready.
  14. Game of Thrones was probably the last appointment level TV show where you had to watch live and it was the main point of discussion the next day. I think I said it on here or at least to friends how I think GoT might be the last one like that. The last season of Breaking Bad had it too I guess you could say Tiger King though, hah
  15. Yes that and the daily NBA show is ok too other than Paul Pierce. but in general it's good and sticks to the game. I'm generally one who's not a huge NFL guy and get annoyed by how much it's jammed down our faces, especially as the draft approaches. But along with the talks we've had in this thread and baseball starting I'm glad to have MLB network as the background now. They really do a great job on there. Due to some chord cutting I didn't have it last year, which I guess was no big deal in the weird year, but glad to have it back now. Pre rona, with MLB network I basically didn't watch ESPN other than live games from March- October.
  16. Good summary. So the proper framework of the discussion should be on the control aspects as Dak wants to hit FA again sooner, how it manipulates the cap number, how it helps try to keep a good team around him, etc. Not, "Dallas is cheap/lowballing and don't want to pay him".
  17. Browns are a legit contender too. If they stick to ground and pound vs KC they might've won that game, and don't forget the goalline fumble through the end zone that flipped the game a bit too. If I'm Watt and picking purely on 'contender-ness' though I'm generally going to lean heavily towards the NFC just to avoid KC until you have to play them and hope someone else knocks them off.
  18. If Gale Sayers, Terrell Davis, and Calvin Johnson are in there's no reason Sterling shouldn't be too. And injuries weren't really a factor on two of those guys. Seems odd he was singled out for an injury caused short career while other short careers are in. Edit: I hope I'm correct on all 4 being in lol, I didn't double check but I think they are.
  19. Yes I know NFL contracts aren't all guaranteed. The reported offer was 5/175 with over 110 mil gtd. I think both were records at the time, as this was before Maholmes signed. Supposedly he doesn't want the 5th year and that's the impasse. All that stuff would get paired down if you cut a year off. I just don't see how this is the team being cheap by literally offering him more money than he even wants. There seems to be no lowballing going on like these talking heads act. He's a top 5-10 QB and they were offering the record biggest contract (which would now be #2 to the clear top QB). In almost all cases I'm going to side with the player to get his money but this one seems to be on him, put the money in the bank man. I just can't see how the Cowboys are being made out the bad guy with the info out as of now. But, I'm not sure where they're at on it now which is why I was asking. If they're now trying to use the injury against him or something, I'd get the talk then.
  20. Right, I know it's all bs which is why I hate it and never watched before being at home for a year straight. For the most part I'll only click on SC and toss on in the background since it has a semblance of showing recaps, but they bring the guys in too to argue eventually and that's when I flip. Lately, what those guys get brought in for is this Dak rant and that's when I flip and was just making sure my understanding wasn't totally wrong on that situation. I have no info on the ratings stuff but my quick gut would be that 13-18 year olds are at school for 75% of the year so not watching live a ton? If they're factoring in click bait things on twitter/FB/Insta those age watch, are young people really clicking to watch two guys argue about sports? Maybe they are IDK but that would interest me in no way, even when I was that age.
  21. Is it though, do you know anyone who likes that stuff vs how many people are turned off by? Similar to what I'm describing, espn is just what gets tossed on the background, they're probably gonna get ballpark same ratings anyway. Sure seems like it turns more people off than anything else. My understanding is they think people get their 'highlights' from their phones and that's why they don't do it. I guess they're the experts on it but I'm not sure they're right on it. I suppose looking at politics cable news and how much people love talking heads screaming there and telling them what to think it makes sense but I'm not convinced for sports. Pretty much the only ones I like are Jalen and Jacoby. Mostly because they're just having fun. Either way, seems no one is saying my understanding on Dak/Dallas is wrong. Just every time I see that rant before turning I roll me eyes and I was curious if I was wrong
  22. Right, before pandemic I essentially never watched these idiot talking heads, just live games. But now I'll throw it on in the background here and there and will see stuff like this if I pay attention before turning it off/down. There was a stretch in the season where every day was Eagles/Wentz talk and that was my cue to turn it off, now it's Dak/Cowboys. But was just curious if I was missing something on the Dak situation as I'm not nearly as nerdy with NFL. NBA tv is ok and MLB Network is really good though. I don't know why it's so hard for espn to just show what happened in games instead of people arguing about sports. They already onw the rights and don't have to pay some jabroni a million dollars to argue.
  23. Yea Sterling should definitely be in, another factor in his stats was that was before the massive passing explosion of the last 15-20 years. Being at home if I toss on espn lately they have to rant about the Zak/Cowboys situation. And all they do is act like it's all the teams fault, just pay him, stop being cheap, racist that they won't pay, etc. My understanding (unless something has recently changed) is the disagreement is over years and Dallas wants to give him one more year and subsequently more money. Zak wants a year less to hit FA sooner again. Yet every day it's a rant about how cheap they're being and how it's ridiculous. The whole narrative just seems off to me when they are literally trying to give him more money but that never gets brought up. I assume Dal wants/needs it this way to help with manipulating the cap somehow, which helps keep the team strong around him and helps him have a stronger chance of success. To the more informed NFL folks, am I missing something?
  24. Yes, I'm glad I can now start officially hating the Dodgers like I do Bos, NYY, Cubs. The essentially hadn't won a title in the life I can remember and about 10 years of putting out great teams and being extremely well run they kept getting unlucky in the playoffs. They/their fans deserve at least one with this run they've been on. Also besides Machado their recent teams haven't really had a hateable player. Now that they have the title they deserve I can lump them in with the other big market teams. LAD is kind of showing us what can be done with all those advantages/resources if you run it smartly/correctly. Yanks spent a good part of the last 20 years being run stupidly which kept things open for everyone else. Dodgers are doing it much better than them. The nature of baseball shouldn't allow them to be like the Durant GSW teams, so hopefully it doesn't happen.
  25. Saw some things like Baseball Prospectus pegging MKE as favorites in the Central. I know to take those type things with a grain of salt but at least that makes me think they can be better than I have been thinking. I was thinking 2nd place and playoffs was very possible due to regression of the Central, while still not thinking MKE would be all that great of a team. I feel like STL should be the faves but these things must be factoring in big bounce backs from Yeli/Keston and that Woodruff/Burnes are legit. Williams/Hader is gold for end of pen. So I guess I'm in, forget the blahness of last year, it's a new season, no reason they can't hang with anyone in the NL other than LA.
