  1. I was surprised to see it that far out too. Kind of assumed June to get ready, start in July, done by Labor Day-ish before football.
  2. Man this mask talk is so much. There is no doubt that mask helps, this has been going on for years and years during these outbreaks through he world. Too many people are latching onto this as if they're flip flopping on the science and trying to act like it undermines their credibility. The CDC and anyone has known the whole time masks help, or at the very least might help even if it's marginal. They straight up lied at the time in order to prevent psychotic hoarding, and they were absolutely correct to do it (look at TP) as they needed the masks in the medical professionals hands. This trying to argue back and forth on if it helps or not is a waste of time. If you want to complain about them lying for the greater good, I guess you have a legit discussion on whether the govt should do that. It's essentially the same as saying 'stay calm' during a crisis of some kind like a fire. But that's what happened. Maybe it would be better for PR for them to just come out and say they intentionally lied, but I think that opens up a different can of worms so the right choice is to just say "new evidence" and move onto stuff that actually matters. Essentially, no one is going to listen anyway and is just dug in to complain no matter what so might as well just move on. Baldkin nailed it, it's really that simple. This isn't difficult science to grasp. Or think of like this, do you want the person preparing your food to not be wearing a mask right now? Breathing right on top of it?
  3. The WHO thing isn't saying it won't help stop the spread (though it's probably taking the stance that it's negligible). It's saying that masks shouldn't be wasted on non health care workers. Essentially, if we have a fixed amount masks they can do the most amount of good if used by healthcare workers or those knowingly affected. Though I think they're writing this poorly. Especially the phrasing of "if healthy" since people can go days without knowing they're not healthy. Thus, just where the mask since you don't know if you have it or not. And I think they're probably taking the stance of it probably won't make a substantial difference, so don't waste the masks. I'd guess most would agree that it's not going to make some drastically huge change in any percents, which is fine. But even if it's just a marginal help, what does it hurt to toss it on when around people? It can't hurt. But I know everyone needs to make extreme stances and judgments to support their preconceived view so. Also, if you're one that is going back and ripping for how early on they said not to where masks and how they've flip flopped. That was on purpose. They did not want mass hoarding of masks like idiots did with TP as they needed all the masks in hospitals. They were exactly correct to lie.
  4. Popped in to read a few pages and see someone say that the shutdown has little to no effect on the spread. Shake my head and leave. Impossible to converse with this faction of folks that so adamantly took a side on this back in Feb/early March and refuse to acknowledge all the data that has proven them wrong. Just continue to dig their heals in instead of just reading and learning with an open mind.
  5. Well, schools are going to be shut down. For the WIAA. Yea, what did the girls have left? Like 8 total games in the next two days and without spectators. Don't think it would be crazy to finish that off. Boys too is so close to done, think you could get through this weekend without fans and then if there is huge escalation next week cancel or delay the finals. And this is coming from someone generally on board with all this stuff and that we should be cautious. TP has been the dumbest part of this entire thing for me. Makes no sense to me. That should be very very low on the list of priorities if you're super worried about all this. Another thing I'd say is in the overreact side is the "cancellations" of far out events. Like what's wrong with delaying or saying you're monitoring the situation and will decide later, while working on contingencies in the meantime. Take the Masters, it's a month away. Outdoor, players not on top of each other. Can't they just make a statement that as of now it's on but good chance we'll have to change. We'll update as the situation progresses. If this doesn't explode in the next two weeks it seems one that could be done without fans onsite. If this explodes, sure cancel it. But what's the rush this far in advance.
  6. Even as one taking this seriously and generally fine with all this cancellation of large public gatherings, I think I'm on the side of just delaying now and waiting and seeing what happens. Like, what's the harm in saying we're stopping now and will re-evaluate in a couple weeks. If you decide to fully cancel then, so be it. I'd have the same general vibe on MLB since it's a couple weeks out, start all your contingency planning, give it another 10ish days and decide what to do.
  7. One thing that could get weird for the Bucks is if they delay the season but still play everything. So, it could cause the playoffs or finals to overlap with the Democratic Convention. What do they do? Play the game in Madison?
  8. I'd also guess they cancel and will make new lines when this gets figured out. I like your passion on the Brewers, might as well bet what you're rooting for. Ones I've generally liked are Padres and Phillies unders. Possibly Giants over. Never pulled the trigger on any though so can wait this all out
  9. Did I miss something? Is this the Black Plague or a virus? Overreactions like this just raise the level of panic. March Madness indeed. I'm a 67 year old but with no serious underlying health issues. Almost all of the deaths from this virus have been to elderly (average age 81) people with severe medical conditions. How does this make them safer? More people will die if they don't have access to medical resources, which will happen if the system gets overwhelmed like it is in Italy. Anything that can be done to slow the spread now will make a huge difference. Yes. And the second thing to make those 81 year old safer is that all those young people not mixing together passing it to each other, who will then unknowingly pass it to the 81 year.
  10. Yup, it's the ultimate foot in the mouth moment for the "this is nothing" crowd.
  11. Then what are you arguing about? Nowhere did I say LBJ passed him or should win MVP, in fact I've clearly stated the opposite. All I've said is that what happened in the last week narrowed the gap, unarguably it did. nowhere did I say he passed him. I said that what happened made that scenario of catching in Ws and Giannis missing games much more likely. I have no idea what you are arguing is wrong about those statements. My statement about the last 25% not mattering is your notion is the implication that he's so far ahead and LBJ can't catch, I'm pointing 25% of the season is left, that is alot. You want to attack the media, I'm saying I don't think the media pointing out those two things is some crazy bias. Now of course it's all moot. Who knows what happens from here. At the very least, Giannis is going to get healthy now so that issue goes away. If they end the regular season and go right to the playoffs, Giannis walks with this easily.
  12. I think that's the point. They know those people are all gonna travel so bringing them all back together would be a recipe for mass spreading. Yea, if you could somehow make them not travel but how are you going to enforce that? Especially as a big chunk of people walking around telling everyone it's just like the flu, no big deal. Plus, young people are unlikely themselves to be at risk. It's them getting it and spreading it to others more at risk that would be the problem.
  13. I want to say UW's track is considered 'fast'. Or, at least it used to be over the years. Not sure if that's changed or is new. But if that's still the case they'll probably weigh the other stuff more. I think he's fast enough though, I'd guess he gets slowed down less by the pads than most. Also, saw Bielema back on campus for the pro day working the Giants. Kinda funny.
  14. All you're saying is "yes the the things I'm pointing out are more important". I'm saying, no I don't think those are as important. There is no way to "prove" anything. I know all the stats are on Giannis side, I fully acknowledge Giannis is the clear favorite. I also am of the belief that being on the best team and especially if you're team is drastically the best team is a huge huge indicator of who wins the MVP. Of course it's not an end all be all(westbrook, etc), but in general. It is my opinion the thing that made this overwhelmingly in Giannis' favor (as opposed to a normal 'lead') as of 1-2 weeks back was his team was going to finish way ahead of everyone else, that ended all discussion. I think missing way more games than the other guy matters. You believe voters look at advanced stats as more important. I believe they look more at the traditional big 3, which are kind of a wash. If that big record advantage goes away, it becomes much closer. I have no idea how that's arguable. I'm saying that I don't get how you're acting like the last 25% of the season doesn't matter. And specific to the last week, that Giannis losing and missing two games(which provides 0 value) while the other guy beat him and the other top rival while playing amazing doesn't narrow the gap. I don't think it's media hogwash bs for them to point out that due to the Bucks losing a bunch and evening their record up with LAL, Giannis missing two games and possibly more (we still don't know) all of a sudden made this race not over. Anyone saying that if it ended today that they'd pick LBJ I'd disagree with, but saying that with 20-25% of games left that what just happened made it much closer (or at least not over) is not a crazy media bs thing at all. The way for LBJ to steal this would be that if the Lakers finish with the same-ish record and Giannis misses a bunch of games. The last week just made those things way more likely than previously thought, it's not media bs to point that out. I frankly have no idea how this arguable. But, Lakers just lost one to a blah team last night. LBJ put up a crazy statline but they lost. If Giannis comes back and Bucks rattle off another 9/10 streak this is over. First, it rebuilds that team record thing, second Giannis isn't racking up DNPs (before the last week or so when it's over) and third it would allow LBJ to rest a bunch of games since there's nothing for him to play for late in the year. Narrowing the games played thing I'm pointing out as well. If Giannis misses say 4 more games right now and they lose a couple of them well then all of a sudden there is discussion. My pointing out the most years he'd win MVP is not proving anything in a heads up vs Giannis thing. Its addressing your implication that they're talking like this out of charity to LBJ. That's not the case at all, he is having a clear MVP level season. And yes, I do believe LBJ showing everyone he's clearly the best player still does matter. It's another thing to help narrow the gap on the stats stuff you point out. Don't forget how many MVPs LBJ didn't get while being the best PER in the league, best stats while being the clear best player due to things like certain narratives/storylines and team record. If anything LBJs career exactly proves that the stats alone is not all that matters.
  15. No, it's because LBJ has also had a ridiculous season on a team on pace to win mid 60s and the last 5 days just brought their team records very close together. The Bucks are now 1 game up in the L column. It's also clear that LBJ is still the best player in the world. Any talk prior to last weekend was pure media hype to try and create clicks, what happened last weekend combined with Giannis getting hurt just brought it a lot closer and within in reach IF those things I said happen, those IFs just became a lot more realistic so I don't see the harm in anyone saying that. No matter how much you want to deny it. What's he done in the last week? Lost heads up, then straight up missed two games, creating obviously no value to his team as they also lost a 3rd in a row. While the other guy beat him, the 3rd top team and played amazing in both. It's 100% logical that this closed the gap. Also, Lakers have a game stretch similar to what the Bucks just did that included a back-to-back-to-back due to the Kobe make up game. LBJ very easily could give back a couple games there by sitting out some. It's very late in the season when he should get some rest in. Could help narrow the games played gap that might build up between now and then
  16. If I was implying it, I'll just state it. LeBron is undeserving of the MVP award this year. The Bucks record over the Lakers was NOT Giannis' biggest advantage. The fact that he was posting the single highest PER in NBA history was, the fact that he's got the highest defensive rating in the NBA, that he's averaging roughly 35/16/8 per 36 minutes...pretty much the fact that he's having one of the greatest seasons in NBA history was his biggest advantage over LeBron. Saying what LeBron is doing would be good enough to win the MVP in MOST years is about as relevant as saying, "look at what he's doing....for a 35 year old." Giannis has been a significantly better player this season than LeBron. No, the 70 win pace was the biggest reason he was a runaway leader. Without that it becomes close/arguable because the "significantly" portion you speak of isn't quite true as LBJ has also been ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, Giannis should still win if it ends now. But you acting like it's blasphemy that one guy playing two great games vs top rival teams and winning while the other loses 3 times and misses two games doesn't narrow the decision is just wrong. If the Bucks win only 1 game more than LA and Giannis misses 10 more games than LBJ I really don't think people are wrong to vote for LBJ. It becomes very close at that point and I see either way. And no it's not the same as "for a 35 year old". If you delete Giannis from this season LBJ would be a walkaway for MVP right now. In probably 80% of seasons the year LBJ and his team is having would be a shoe-in for MVP. Feel free to disagree though. I certainly see where you're coming from and don't think you're nuts or anything. Essentially I'm just saying it should be closer than people realize with how good LBJ has been and last weekend and Giannis injury helped close some gap. Big game Thurs vs Bos to get back on track. Hopefully Giannis is back and we win so everyone can chill a bit. haha
  17. You're implying though that LBJ is undeserving. He is clearly having an MVP season in most years, just so happened Giannis was trumping him. LBJ's crazy good statline and crazy good advanced metrics for a team winning in the 60s is normally shoe in for MVP. Just so happened you had a guy slightly beating his stats while his team was going to win 70. All of a sudden their team Ws come back to even (which was Giannis' biggest advantage) and one guy ends up playing 10 more games than the other it makes perfect sense as to why he'd win. Prior to Giannis missing these two games he'd missed 6 games. LBJ had missed 3. As of now it looks like that gap is going to increase as it's already up to 8/3. Long story, losing head to head and then missing two more games while LBJ also beat another prime contender should narrow the gap. Giannis/Bucks just lost 3 games, with him missing 2. LBJ just won 2 vs the other two top contenders. Clearly that should narrow the gap.
  18. What? How does this track at all? In the other thread you’re ripping Fiers for not speaking out sooner, when it was happening, but now you’d rather have LoMo keep his mouth shut until “all of the truth comes out” somehow? Fiers is a tool who, if he truly felt bad, should have spoken up immediately after the 2017 season, not waiting 2 years to say anything. And furthermore, if he feels that awful and that this was that egregious, he’d give back his WS ring and WS share.......but we’ll wait for that, won’t we. Clear things up? Honestly, every team has done this to some extent. The league wanted to make the Astros the whipping boy, because Fiers spoke up. Continues to be an awful take and even morso as more and more info comes out. Fiers told others right away, new teams, players, etc. Its basic logic. You have 35-50 people knowing this is happening. After that year, half those guys are on new teams. You don't think they're going to tell people? They all told their new teammates so they could plan for it, who told others who told others. A secret with that many people isn't going to stay secret for long. It even came out that teams told MLB and MLB did nothing because they didn't want the bad pub. The only way to do something was to go to the media. But yea he's the tool and the one in the wrong in this situation according to you. But yea what a POS that he didn't publicly melt his ring down.
  19. Well, it's not like LBJ also wasn't incredible in the previous 60 games and his team wasn't playing at nearly the same level as the Bucks. All the while missing less games, which is valuable.
  20. I don't think anyone would disagree with your point.
  21. From the agent's perspective though you have to remember they have multiple clients so it's a bit of a numbers game to them as to why they'd be willing to gamble and take the risk of the big mega contracts. The huge paydays for them come with those big contracts, roll the dice enough times on guys and eventually one will stay healthy and get it. From the players perspective, it's just them, if they get hurt they're in trouble.
  22. I think they win the first Rutgers game with Potter too, they got killed on O rebounds due to having no other big guy. At the minimum you have to think 2 games get flipped and that shouldn't be considered homerism, get up to flipping every single close game and sure it's rose colored glasses a bit. What a crazy year, glad to get this title in the bag. I know everyone obsessed on tourney results and for some reason put more stock in making a Sweet 16 than winning a conference but to me it's the opposite. Both tourneys are one game flukefests and your chances of winning (especially the NCAA) is extremely low, winning the regular is a true test and you won and you have that in the bag. Anything else is gravy.
  23. Yea I'd be all over using those White Sox and Braves contracts to their young stars super early in the process as models for Keston. He's a lock to hit, earlier you can lock him up and get a few years of FA bought out the cheaper it'll be.
  24. Yea for sure, they should give him some time to start the year and hope he shows good signs. Hope he turns it around.
