  1. Yea that's the slippery slope they opened in deciding who's mental well beings are affected and who's aren't. Such as, the Housers mental well being and happiness weren't affected negatively by playing with Howard (in their viewpoint). Micah Potters wasn't by having his coach get fired and a new coach come in that didn't think he was a fit? They might as well just let it be a free for all at this point instead of trying to judge these cases. As I think was posted in the football thread, maybe allowing a one time transfer with no penalty is a simple solution.
  2. If you know someone who does pay for cable you can probably get their logins and watch everything for free. Toss your friend like $20/month
  3. I really have no idea and haven't seen any speculation. I'll throw out Iowa St as a guess.
  4. But my point was that if they hadn't dropped two 'winnable' games, they'd be tied for first right now with that same next 9 games. For all the crap they've dealt with this year, they're like 3 bounces away from being 15-7 or 16-6. Yea it's kind of crazy. I've been kind of saying the same thing as I've been frustrated with those close Ls and blown leads. For team that looks so blah and is lacking in talent they sure seem to be competing quite well. In most circumstances, that's chalked up to good coaching, but apparently not this one.
  5. I actually respect for taking this interview and talking a bit rather than a cryptic "respect my decision" type tweet then disappearing. I think it's an adult way to handle it. And I think he's playing a good middle ground in that he also doesn't want to create more drama/scandal etc and throw anyone under the bus so to speak. I'm sure in spite of what he didn't like about things he doesn't wanna be a problem for the team. I'd generally just kinda think the pressure of all this got to him, coach pushing, etc, just got to be too much. It really can't be easy and I think full blown adults ripping on young adults like these kids who are in higher stress and pressure environments isn't quite right. For the people in his life, best of my knowledge he comes from a strong family background. If you're not aware his dad played in the NBA and has other family connections to the league. I think he has a strong and knowledgeable support system around him.
  6. Certainly entitled to his view and opinion on things and he's not happy he should move on and try to be happy. But, I think anyone rushing to judgment and take what he's saying as fact should probably take it with a grain of salt considering that is basically the opposite of what Bo, Gard, and the current UW football program is known for over the years and opposite what everyone has said about them over the years. But, not everyone sees eye to eye and sometimes people just don't click together.
  7. Correct, unless he gets a waiver he'll have to sit out this semester and all of next year and only one year left afterward. I suppose unless he stays in school and can graduate this semester, some get it done in 3 years. I'd guess he's big time banking on a waiver.
  8. All accounts are that Gard is a very easy going and player friendly. Especially relative to Bo. But yea if you look at the Purdue game when King laid a complete dud with 0 points. I'd guess Gard got on him a bit after that game, as the best player that can't happen. Essentially I'd guess this Gard having the attitude that this dude can be so much better and trying to push him to do more. I guess I'd put it on him that maybe he should've been able to read Kings personality wasn't receptive to this approach and gone another way. However, good luck find a CBB coach who doesn't yell or get on his players. And like I said, all reports are Gard is bottom levels of that type of guy. Think of your Bos and Izzo at the top.
  9. Pretty much. Bo would've quit in that summer 2015 when he announced that but Gard's dad was passing away of cancer and obviously who knew how the timing and just overall how that would go so. So he started the next year. Ultimately a big factor in the current crapness of the team right now is the way they mishandled all of that and didn't name Gard coach right away. So by the time Gard could recruit all the PGs were signed and you're left with the scrapheap pick up of Trice. Swap trice for a Jordan Taylor type PG and this all is much different right now. SUpposedly Pritchard from Oregon was as good as committed for all that, I think Simpson from MI was another after that. But how can they commit to Gard/UW if they don't he's going to be the coach?
  10. Nah, that would have nothing to do with it. Gard was the lead assistant and recruiter for that whole time. He did all the recruiting. Also, I checked the dates. Bo announced in June 2015 that he was retiring after that next year. Kobe committed in September. He knew Bo wasn't his coach and he knew the plan was for Gard to be the coach.
  11. I think this take is completely spot on. Take a look around CBB what happens in coaching changes. Go look at Pitt after they pushed Dixon out, things like that happen all the time. Firing him is way riskier than people realize to rock the consistency of this program. Especially when he has the two best recruiting classes UW really UW has ever had (maybe besides Rashard Griffith) lined up back to back. If he doesn't do better with those players? Well then yea he's had plenty of time and you can start looking to transition. And they should probably find a way to do a transition without a 'firing' type of thing that leads to a big dip rebuild type situation.
  12. Besides that it just seems like he wouldn't do it (which you have to take with a grain of salt) I do think if you look around the league it's going to be very tough for him to jump into a better winning situation than MKE in straight FA type of way, a KD GSW thing does not seem to be out there. He'd have to: pull the AD drama move which seems out of DNA, go to a clearly worse team, pick a team when he's a FA and force a trade from MKE to make salaries work. Or what I think is the likely route if he were to leave which is signing the max as soon as he's offered and then see how it goes for a bit and demand a trade later, ala the Paul George type move. ETA: Spitball a couple situations that could be good and have cap space. MIA could be an option as they clear out some folks. But, do you really want to tie your prime to an aging Butler 1-2 years from now? MKE is a better spot. ATL could be a sleeper if their young core keeps improving and show some ability to win (not just put up stats) as they'd still all be on cheap rookie deals so they'd have tons of cap space.
  13. I think GAME05 nails it in his post in that you don't have to change it for the sake of changing it. As said, they could and possibly should've won it last year and obviously they can this year too. So you're not in a "you can't win it all with this team" situation. You clearly can, not sure if they will as there is other teams that can too. It's not like the Raps Lowry/DD combo that you knew could not win it all so they rolled the dice. But I'd add that if Bledsoe massively clams up again in the late playoffs that could lead to shaking it up with him. I think they have the perfect insurance policy with Hill but if that happens again this year I can see them trying to come up with something there to change up PG. But I'd also say people are way too quick to crucify people over small samples in the playoffs. But 3 years in a row I can see being enough of a reason to explore options. Just don't forget Lowry was a know playoff choker flopper before he stuck daggers in everyone last year. FVV was choking the whole playoffs and their fans wanted him benched, then he went nuts.
  14. Right, he needs to give back his B1G Championship rings too!!!!
  15. I really don't think Davison was doing anything intentional. You swing your arms as you run and he was low to the ground and kind of falling so it looks bad. It's not unimportant to remember the screener was setting an illegal moving screen and slid into that, if he doesn't move it doesn't happen. But, with his past crap he gets no benefit of the doubt and I get that. Also, at this point the pendulum has swung so far on him that he gets no charges called. Any contact with him is called against him. He's actually cut out the exaggerating and flopping, which he should since he gets no calls now. At this point it's probably biased against him, as opposed to his freshman year when he seemed to get every call.
  16. I'd have taken him back for that contract. Though I'm guessing for MKE a big factor is that he wouldn't be able to be shuttled, so I get that. He seems like a great bounce back candidate to me. Overworked in 2018 led to injury that derailed all of 2019. So he pitched way few innings last year and hopefully the arm rebounds. BUt i also want to say some thought the new ball was bad for his splitter (or one of his key pitches). My eye test seemed to think there was still tons of movement on his balls and that he wasn't that far away from being good.
  17. When did depth not count on paper? I get what you're saying in the sense that if all the starters on the team stay healthy theirs may very well be the best. But the odds of going through a season with only five starters are negligible. That makes the depth more than just an afterthought. It will play a significant role as it does every season. I think the best thing Stearns did this off season was avoid making a big splash on one player and chose to add overall depth instead. You said it right there. If everyone stays healthy, that's the on paper along with just what they could/should do. You can't plan for Shaw/Jesus type things to happen. And for the depth, like I said, you can say the same thing about everyone. If their 5-8 guys were proven or good they wouldn't be their 5-8 guys. That is more than a big if. It's a nearly impossible one. Has any staff every had just five pitchers start all season? Furthermore how often does every pitcher on a staff pitch to their potential? I'm not sure what on paper means to you but for me it includes more than just the starters. That's where quality of depth comes in. I'd rather have five average guys and have 3 more almost as good ready to go than 5 really good ones and nobody behind them. I think the chances of having a decent staff is better with 8 guys who have to potential to be league average or slightly better than four guys who are well above average but nothing behind them that could get near average on their best year. -- Sure. But again, this is why I said the 5-8 thing your concerned with applies to everyone, not just them. So, on paper, it's hard not to see they have the advantage. Their top 4 clearly trumps everyone else. Then the 5-8 range is a crapshoot, just like everyone else. So 5-8 is a wash combined with clear advantage in the top 4. For example, are we going to sit here and say that our Burnes and Peralta depth guys is some clear advantage? We have no idea how they're going to do and they flopped last year.
  18. When did depth not count on paper? I get what you're saying in the sense that if all the starters on the team stay healthy theirs may very well be the best. 19. They have added more than enough firepower to make up 15 games. The middle of their order is the best in the division and on paper their rotation is the equal of Cardinals for the best They're clearly the favorite. They don't have 15 games to make up. They start 0-0 like everybody else. How is their rotation up for the best in the Central? That's a lot of confidence in Miley, Gray, and Bauer. I don't even know who there 5th is do you? I do think Castillo can maintain his level but, otherwise it's filled with a bunch of guys that are every bit 4.5 ERA prone as they are to be 3.7ERA prone or better. And how is that still not better than everyone else's? You can rip on their's but then go look at the other teams SPs and I don't think it's debatable that on paper theirs is the best. You can easily argue they're lacking depth in the 5-8 area (where MKE has shown the last few years you can cheaply make up some value as everyone will need extra starters) but the on paper discussion right now is clearly in their favor. And you can probably say the same depth issue for every team as no one in those areas is 'proven' or else they wouldn't be depth guys.
  20. My guess is they'll look into a Brown/Wilson combo for a small wing upgrade but I doubt they find something worth it. So I think they'll just end up dumping DJ on someone in order to get out of his contract for next year
  21. No doubt. Although if I have time, I can sit down and watch a 3 hour Brewer game and genuinely enjoy it, and appreciate the journey of their season a lot more than I can appreciate the NBA journey. I don't know why. Maybe it's because pennant races in MLB tend to be closer and even though the season is twice as long, every game seems to matter more because it's common to see a race come down to a game or two. Maybe it's the uniqueness of every MLB game. Every Bucks game is mostly the same to me. Giannis will score about 30 and add 12 boards, Middleton or Bledsoe will add 20, the bench will contribute, the Bucks will let their opponent hang around awhile and win by 15. I do enjoy watching Giannis play and appreciate what the Bucks do, but Bucks games are generally background noise for me if I have it on. If it's close in the 4th I'll be paying attention. In the postseason I'll be fully invested. But for now, barring a Giannis injury the Bucks are going to be the 1 seed, and they are not going to be challenged before the Eastern semis. So to me, that's really when it starts and everything until then is just filler. I think if you really are all in on the Bucks this time of year you need to be into the side quests (will the Bucks win 70? Will Giannis win MVP again? Will we be active at the trade deadline?) Maybe how much more difficult it is to make the playoffs in MLB vs NBA is a factor in that so reg season to get that spot is more important (kinka like the CFB situation). Another could be that once in the MLB playoffs anyone has a chance whereas the NBA that simply isn't the case
  22. Yea due to the oddness of the game I'd have done Cha + points today. They played badly but chances are at some point soon you'll look back up at the TV and they'll be up 10.
  23. For the life of me I have no idea how anyone can prefer NCAA to NBA. The NCAA players skills are just so bad in comparison. This has happened several times this year when UW and MKE play back to back on the same night. The difference to me is jarring and I have no idea how people can watch them back to back and come away more entertained by the 53-48 game than the one with the fast shot clock and quicker action, combined with how much better at shooting they are, how much better it's reffed, how much more athletic. It's going to happen again today. Bucks get done at 4:30ish and UW starts at 6.
  24. Another 'flaw' of the NFL that I think Cuban has pointed out over the years is that their popularity is largely based on the fantasy football obsession. What does that say about the sport and game overall if a huge drive of it all has nothing to do with the actual games. But on the other hand, with how gambling is now being embraced overall it's still a good thing and it does help alleviate the type of problem Superfly points for NBA/MLB in that it gives a reason to care about games that don't really matter.
  25. Basketball is the 2nd most popular sport in the world after Soccer. Very few people outside of the US care about the NFL. And even in the US with younger people there certainly seems to be vibe moving towards NBA. With the health things in the NFL it will be really interesting to see how the landscape looks in say 30 years once fewer and fewer kids are allowed to play football and how that affects their fandom or interest later in life.
