  1. The system is indeed once again restocked and relevant. A top 5 summer 2016 draft pick, a Lind trade, and a Lucroy trade, could go a long way to bring it closer to 2006 territory.
  2. http://m.brewers.mlb.com/news/article/140110764 Didnt see a thread about this. Guillmett claimed off waivers from the Dodgers. Will replace Broxton on the 25 man. Dude has sucked at the MLB level(he has allowed 15 earned runs in 21 innings over parts of three seasons for the Indians, Orioles and Rays) but is sporting a 2.69 ERA in 262 games in the minors, including a 2.48 ERA in 115 appearances at the Triple-A level. The pickup reminds me a bit of the Marco Estrada claim a couple years ago. His delivery reminds me of Mike Fiers.
  3. I'm guessing the cards are paying the salary and the Brewers are getting the ole "bag o' balls"....
  4. I love this idea. Parra doesn't necessarily give the Cubs anything long term and Vogelbach should be ready with the rest of that wave of prospects we have. Maybe we can even get a BP arm thrown in if there is a bidding war. Makes sense for the Brewers, but why would the cubs want to have to face him for the next 7 years? That is why intradivision trade are so rare.
  5. I'd be OK with this. Norris and Hoffman both have ace potential. Pentecost would fill the organizational black hole at the catcher position.
  6. Jungmann is looking like an ace or a good #2. I have to keep telling myself it wont last. But then he just keeps on going out and shutting down good clubs.
  7. So who do they spend all that money on? David Price? Three different 2016 versions of Garza/Lohse? That's not gonna get us into the World Series Now if they spent the money on International Talent and struck gold on some of the vets for prospects trades that they should be making, now we've got something to build on I think what superfly is suggesting is that if the Brewers use Lucroy and Gomez to acquire some good young talent now, and save up some cash in 2015 and 2016 because of those deals, they will have the cash necessary to fill 2 or 3 black holes by 2017. If you trade Gomez and Lucroy now I'm sure you could get a couple cheap stopgaps to fill holes for 2016. i.e a Kurt Suzuki type journeyman guy.
  8. Picked up his third in the bottom of the 8th. Scooters consistent empty BA, lack of power, and inability to hit left handers is the reason I'm not anxious to trade off our middle infield depth. I could see Segura or Sardinas being our second baseman of the future.
  9. If we could get back two potential future aces I'd consider it. But that said, if Arcia adds some power he will be one of the top 2 or 3 prospects in the game by the All-star breakc next year. The Heyman article here, http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/25243415/inside-baseball-dodgers-aim-for-cueto-or-hamels-rangers-in-on-cole-too-plus-more-trade-buzz, says that Arcia is the best prospect he's seen this year. I saw Arcia a month ago and I completely agree. He's got incredible quick wrists which allows him to foul off tuff pitches, and excellent plate discipline for a 19 year old. Thats why he is dominating AA at that age. The only way trade him is for top flight pitching.
  10. Jungman continues to dominate and establishes himself as a #1 or #2. Cravy continues to pitch like a mid rotation starter. Fiers closes out the year pitching well. Lohse released. Garza to the bullpen. Broxton released. Team manages to secure a top 10 pitch in what appears to be a very deep 2016 draft.
  11. Every time I watch him he reminds me more and more of Jared Weaver. Not spectacular stuff, but still a low to mid 90's fastball, a funky delivery with deception, and good control I have no idea how he had an 8.00 ERA at AAA.
  12. He's heated up at the perfect time. Hopefully he can net us what we paid for him. A second rounder ish guy and an A baller with some upside. Or maybe just one very good prospect.
  13. Jungmann really is looking like the real deal. I dont want to speak too soon, but it will be real interesting to see what the league does against him the second time around.
  14. Hoffman is the crown jewel of that system. He's got #1 ace type stuff. Totally agree that this is the time to strike with the Jays. In addtion Anthropoulus and Melvin have a history or working together and reaching deals that have worked out for both teams. I could see a deal getting done and maybe soon. I imagine Gomez, Cotts, and Krod would interest them. Maybe Parra as well.
  15. +1. We can only hope that the demand and Parra's recent play will net at least a Haniger and Banda type return. The Giants and Royals should both be bidding him up and I wouldnt be surprised if one or two dark horses show up.
  16. Thought I'd revive the Toronto thread. I originally didn't think the Blue Jays were a good fit, due to the injury history of some of their top guys. However today MLBTR reported (Via Jeff Simmons) that Antropoulus in Toronto is open to trading from their MLB roster. Apparently Anthropolous was on the phone with a rival GM who wanted big league pieces or near big league pieces. Sounds like Melvins MO. (Segura trade, Sardinas/Knebel trade). I could very well see Melvin picking up guys like Dioner Navarro and Justin Smoak in a trade with the Jays in anticipation of Dealing Lucroy and Lind. The article is here: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/07/blue-jays-trades-anthopoulos.html Anthopoulos Open To Dealing From Major League Roster By Steve Adams [July 8, 2015 at 10:36am CDT] Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos has been vocal about his desire to strengthen both his starting rotation and his bullpen prior to the trade deadline, and in a television appearance on Sportsnet’s Tim & Sid show, he expressed an openness to dealing from his big league roster to do so. Via Sportsnet’s Jeff Simmons, Anthopoulos said that while he’s reluctant to do so, it’s already been discussed with other teams: “We’re looking to add and it’s hard to take away from the big-league club. I was on the phone with one team (prior to coming on the show) and I mentioned that we may need to be creative. As much as we don’t want to take away from the current 25, we bounced around some ideas and concepts. That’s not the path we want to go down but if we can’t seem to get what we want from a prospect standpoint we’ll need to open it up and be creative, similar to what Oakland and the Red Sox did last year with Jon Lester and (Yoenis) Cespedes. We’re open to doing something like that as well.” On July 31 last season, the A’s acquired free-agents-to-be Lester and Jonny Gomes from the Red Sox in exchange for Cespedes and a Competitive Balance draft pick. That trade stunned many at the time, given the fact that Cespedes was a significant cog in the contending Athletics’ lineup, but it was certainly not the only trade in which a contending club traded away a notable big leaguer. The Tigers parted with both Austin Jackson and Drew Smyly in a three-team trade with the Mariners and Rays in order to acquire the services of David Price. Such trades could be more commonplace in 2015, given the parity that exists throughout the game and particularly in the American League. However, when looking at the Blue Jays’ roster, they don’t necessarily have a player with one-and-a-half years of service time remaining (the amount of service that both Cespedes and Jackson had) that fits the exact mold of those two 2014 trades. While both Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion have only a 2016 club option remaining on their deals, each also has 10-and-5 rights, meaning that both Bautista and Encarnacion must personally approve a trade to another team. Dioner Navarro stands out to me as a name that could be moved to a team in need of a catching upgrade. Toronto could either replace him at DH internally or find a DH replacement via trade, as that would be easier to come by than a significant pitching upgrade. Productive part-timers like Danny Valencia, Chris Colabello and Justin Smoak could hold appeal to other clubs as well, though none of the aforementioned names would bring a significant return on his own. One name that could draw some interest might be Kevin Pillar. The Jays do have an in-house candidate to replace him in center field in the form of Dalton Pompey, who was demoted earlier this year but has slashed .357/.416/.571 in his past 26 Double-A contests. Pillar, though, is controllable through 2020, and he may be changing the perception that he’s a fourth outfielder. His five-plus years of control and elite glove might make him an unlikely candidate to go, but it’s easy to envision teams inquiring. All of that, of course, is all highly speculative as opposed to anything that Anthopoulos has indicated through his comments. The Blue Jays also have a nice stable of near-MLB-ready talent to deal from in Pompey, Daniel Norris and Miguel Castro, to say nothing of high-upside prospects that are further down the line such as Jeff Hoffman and Max Pentecost. For the time being, Anthpoulos said that he’s not close on any deals, but he’s “starting to talk a little bit more” with other clubs, calling the All-Star break “the earliest to get something done.” The Toronto GM also expressed a willingness to act quickly, stating: “In season though, timing is huge. Within two or three days or a week, someone’s value can skyrocket so if you have a chance to close (on a deal), you better do it fast.”
  17. I don't think I'd want Meyer. He's got good stuff but he has control issues. The Brewers, for whatever reason, just have not been able to work with these types of pitchers to harness their control. I'd much rather take someone who doesn't throw as hard, or even has less stuff, but that can control his pitches. Swap Meyer for Berrios and I'm on board. +1. In order to give up a year and a half of cheaply signed Gomez i would need someone a little better than Meyer. Not sure if the twins would give up Berrios but thats what it would take for me to get on board.
  18. This doesnt surprise me one bit. I got to see him earlier this year. He's got quick hands, excellent plate discipline, and excellent defense.......at age 20. Only thing that remains to be seen is if he will fill out and develop some more power. I'd rank him firmly in the top 15 in baseball. He's that good.
  19. +1. Hopefully these comments go a long way towards encouraging a trade sooner than later. It leaves a black hole in the organization but if it brings back a possible future ace its worth it.
  20. He's likely trade bait or will be long before his extension is up.
  21. He's gone the way of Suppan and Randy Wolf. One year too many. I'm guessing DM and co. have been holding out hope he would string together two or three goods starts and they could get someone to eat the remaining salary. After tonight, I think the final nail is in the trade coffin.
  22. Too bad he didn't go zero innings tonight. Lohse looks like he would rather be playing golf. Yet another Melvin signing for one too many years(or maybe attanasio signing). Hopefully they just release him soon and pull up Brooks Hall or Tyler Wagner.
  23. Somebody in the MLBTR comment section suggested Aramis Garcia or Ryder Jones. Sadly I'm not enamored with either of those guys or the Giants farm system as a whole. I still think the Brewers match up best with the Mets as a trade partner.
  24. Well this has been fun to watch. Hopefully Jungmann is for real. Him being a real #2 or #3 would be huge for the future of the franchise. He looks better than Nelson has in his time in the big leagues. Maybe Braun and Ramirez can up their trade value enough to bring back a return.
