  1. I was about to post that we were going to win today regardless of how well we do ourselves because the Redskins QB is playing absolutely horrendous. That was fitting to my post that was mid type.
  2. I mean the receiving corps is a disaster and that bum has touched it once all year. Shouldn’t even be on the roster.
  3. I have explained this to you multiple times before, I don’t know why you continue to bang the same drum and ignore the facts about this. The opening with the Mets IS NOT for running day to day player operations. It is more for the business side of things…and they are interviewing people with business backgrounds. In New York the GM is the top guy. Stearns isn’t leaving to go be the #2 guy. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/09/mets-conducting-interviews-for-team-president-sandy-alderson-to-eventually-transition-to-advisory-role.html
  4. The fact Allen Lazard is the top WR on this team is pathetic. Who thought that was a good idea to go into the season with? Then the rest is a couple injury prone and old WRs…plus some rookies Was there really not other logical options to pursue to avoid this incredibly predictable situation.
  5. This has never been said or reported. Also, the Mets have someone running their organization that they are perfectly happy with and are not looking to replace. So regardless of if Stearns wanted to be with the Mets, it really doesn't matter if the Mets don't need/want him.
  6. Helps if Stearns doesn’t throw away the apple at the deadline though.
  7. Looks like you stopped too soon trying to read this thread to find out I said nothing about how many QBs are better than Mertz. Thankfully your post was short and I didn’t waste more than 5 seconds reading to find out you are talking to an imaginary wall though.
  8. Non-highlights, yes. I am not really a dedicated fan of any college football team so I usually watch whatever is on TV when I am bored on a Saturday...which is often times teams the Alabama/Oklahoma's of the world. Can't say I have watched a ton of Williams at USC. Those games are kind of lame. This board has operated for decades on baseball and showing baseball stats. That is a professional league that is pretty consistent across the board. There are 162 games for stats to correct themselves and there are not the absolutely insane talent gaps like in college football. More than ever those baseball teams are facing very similar schedules to take out even more inconsistencies. College football conferences are so different from one another. Big Ten has a lot of defense and the Big 12 likes to air it out. Many QBs are simply game managers and only asked to make the easy throw thus inflating their rating. Using stats as gospel in college football or any college sport is inaccurate. It doesn't take a huge knowledge of sports statistics and college football knowledge to understand that. To me Mertz is probably bordering an average Big Ten QB. Which isn't really saying much as the Big Ten isn't exactly much of a QB league. The only stats I feel are really relevant and comparable to this argument would be Hornibrook and Coan. The majority of fans hated both of them and thought both of them sucked. Hornibrook in his three years put up 125.8/148.6/132.5. Jack Coan only had the one full year and put up a 151.8 rating before the team and fanbase ran him out of town to let the Mertz dream start. The later I actually thought was a decent QB and honestly ran the offense perfectly with his abilities...but thus, clearly the team didn't think so. I think Mertz is a lot better now that the team and him have kind of accepted he isn't going to be 'the guy' with the ball. However, his sub 60% completion rate when he is only averaging 7.0 yards a pass in conference play is pretty brutal. Graham Mertz is basically a lot like Alex Hornibrook. Not a train wreck, but also not good and quite a bit of poor decision-making baked in. As I said before it is still pretty early on, but if his performance in conference play continues, he is in fact, pretty darn bad. I think I would rather have Hornibrook over Mertz.
  9. Marshfield native and UWM alum was nominated for two gold glove awards, RF and Utility. He split major time between RF, CF, and C! Not every day a guy plays C and CF…not to mention to gold glove quality.
  10. Because you quoted me incorrectly, that is why. Graham Mertz is a dumpster fire compared to those QBs and they are unworldly better. That is my opinion, yes. You can decide to just base your entire decision on stats that can't just be compared like apples to apples if you so choose. That is your opinion. I also have two eyeballs I choose when comparing them and have watched them all play. Graham Mertz isn't anywhere near those guys. Not sure if you have watched the other guys, but to me, it is incredibly obvious they aren't on the same planet. If Graham Mertz is similar like the stats show, I should be expecting him to enter his name into the draft and go Top 5, right? 2nd round? 3rd round? 4th round? 5th round? Maybe? What is your explanation why those guys are about to be Top 5 picks and Mertz would be lucky to have his name called at all? It isn't like Mertz doesn't have an NFL profile. He has the height, strong arm, pro-style type gameplay.
  11. Fangraphs has 93 starters better than Lauer that threw at least 100 innings. So yah...seems like there are plenty. Lauer is a good pitcher and I will be quite happy if Gasser becomes similar...but hardly a rarity.
  12. Would his stats be better? He may get better players, but the expectations are wildly different. He would actually be expected to put the team on his back with his arm, actually throw it deep, and be the focal point of the offense. I am not really convinced he would actually be better. Graham Mertz isn't out there putting up his passer rating throwing 40 times a game. On many occasions he doesn't even throw it 20 times. If Mertz had to use his arm that much and throw deeper passes, I don't know his stats are actually improving.
  13. Your posts explain exactly that. All these two have to do is best Hader's hypothetical WAR had he stayed in Milwaukee. You said if Gasser became a Lauer clone, it is an instant win. I am saying, that just is flat out not a great way to look at it due to the postseason implications Hader has and his impact had we got there. I also don't think WAR is a great way to value, arguably the best reliever in baseball. There are endless Lauer's in our farm system and in baseball. Having and acquiring a Hader isn't that easy. These guys don't have to become multi-time All Stars like Hader to make the trade worth it...but simply outbesting his WAR is not going to cut it.
  14. I mean....they do. Put Metz next to those two, if you don't see the vast difference I can't help you. Have you ever watched them? Because if you have you know Mertz isn't on the same planet as them.
  15. I mean, yah, I said that. I am not sure what this comparison to Young/Williams really shows. That they are both unworldly better? I think we all know that. Wouldn't the sensible thing to do is comp him to other Big Ten QBs. Isn't the entire argument going on that Mertz is one of the worst QBs in the Big Ten and some think he is perfectly fine. You can spin these stats to make Mertz not seem that bad because of what Williams/Young do...but anyone who has watched either of those guys for a quarter would know Mertz is an absolute dumpster fire compared to them in a game. I would actually love to see Mertz transfer and see what he does under a different coach in a different system.
  16. I mean, that's a pretty inaccurate way to look at it. Let's just say Hader would have provided 2.5 WAR had we kept him. So if both these prospects have 1 WAR seasons and then a few 0 to 0.3 seasons during a rebuilding time they provided more future value? No You can't look at in such basic terms. If keeping Hader would have turned the team from a contender to a playoff participant that is pretty invaluable. It is a pretty big loss for next year too, that could certainly be a big reason if we miss the postseason again. We traded one of our best players in arguably the best competitive window the franchise has ever had. Generally speaking, I feel like that number would have to be more like 10 WAR combined to make me feel like we got more future value. If they get traded for good value some day or play a big part on a competitive team that could certainly change that.
  17. I would send him to Wisconsin, personally. Let him get accustomed to affiliated ball and its pretty close to where he has played for the last handful of years. It is probably a fairly close comparative talent wise to a lot of what he has faced in the independent league. If he pitches well bump him to AA fairly quickly.
  18. To be fair...his comment sounds a whole like what Stearns must have been telling himself at the deadline when he traded Hader and replaced him with trash.
  19. They are going to offer him arby and he will be on the team. He is a solid starter and a team needs a good 7 of those every year. Why on earth would we not offer arby to a guy who posted a 3.22 ERA in 140 innings in 2021? Even at his statline in 2022 I will happily have him be the #6 guy. The last thing you want is to constantly be calling up unproven guys from AAA like Ethan Small. That loses a lot of games. Your #6 and #7 starters are arguably some of the most important people on the entire roster.
  20. IL ST - 223.1 NMSU - 273.2 NU - 212.5 All other games - Rough estimate would be about 110.0 Three wins - 9 TDs / 1 INT Four losses - 6 TDs / 5 INTs Yah, to some extent you usually pad stats big time against the cupcakes and are less impressive against stiffer competition. Outside of OSU though...he really isn't facing that great of teams. I guess one shall see how he does to end the year.
  21. Just looking at his ERA is really lazy. He gave up earned runs in a grand total of four outings. Six of those runs came in a game the Padres were losing 9-6 in the 8th before he ever pitched. For as bad as people make his time in San Diego be, he was responsible for losing a grand total, checks notes, one game. Hader caused the Padres to lose one game in two months. Sounds pretty good to me. Of course, Taylor Rogers wasn't that much worse in the grand scheme. Rogers did end up pitching more, but was pretty much the reason for 3 losses along the way. However, Rogers wasn't a closer, so it is much harder to directly just label his outings wins/losses like you can with Hader. With Hader he either shut the door for the padres or blew it. Rogers was often times pitching the 8th so there was more game to be played after he pitched.
  22. Mike McCarthy just went for it on 4th down and maybe half a yard on his own 35 down 14-0. Rushed to run the play and tried passing (it failed). The worst part…in real time it looked like they easily got the 1st down on the 3rd down try. He could have thrown the challenge flag and 100% would have won the challenge. Instead he took zero time to check and see if they had gotten the first down that was worthy of a challenge. Luckily for him the Eagles on managed a field goal…but wow. What on earth?
  23. This Packers team may be more depressing than the 2022 Brewers
  24. Well then that has nothing to do with my original post. I mean, they clearly were. They barely missed the playoffs. A sliver better fluke luck at some point in the season and they make it. 5 other teams had similar run differentials near +50, they made the playoffs.
  25. On the bright side…we were so bad we may actually be better in the second half for once. Maybe…
