  1. So did Keston Hiura his senior year. I’d take college strikeouts versus walks with a very small grain of salt.
  2. Just because Peralta is succeeding as a short starter or the other guys flamed out doesn’t change the disadvantage a guy like Peralta has trying to start. Life is much easier and success is much more common if you are 6’1” or taller…at least for a starter.
  3. Yah, they go and do all the stuff. Peralta and Woodruff are both AS and neither has any kind of asterisks on their selection. They are all the same. Even those cowards from Houston are All Stars just like everyone else...even though we know why they are hiding at home.
  4. Freddy Peralta has been added to the NL All Star Game team. He’s replacing Brandon Woodruff. I always thought Saturday starters got booted too, but I suppose it has only been the Sunday starters.
  5. Just dawned on me, Peralta probably has zero chance to be an replacement addition due to the fact he pitches Saturday. I can’t recall in past years, but I don’t think they will name the next best guy as a replacement just to replace him because he can’t pitch either. Maybe I am wrong though.
  6. That ump made a clown show all night, I would have made it a joke with one out to go.
  7. Worst announcers in history, crummy homeplate umpire, and trash play by our hitters today. Time to pour bleach in your eyes, stick knives in your ears, and forget this one.
  8. The rule is fairly simple (sort of). Obviously any guy going into second on that type of play is trying to help break up a DP attempt. When the rule first changed to be more strict the general expectation of what an umpire would deem “interference” would be if the player was within reach of the base. That meant sliding so far one way you couldn’t even touch the base OR if you slide so hard you went over the bag to the point you could not reach it. In Adame’s case he slid so hard into the base he ended up over the bag to the point his slide was deemed as not an attempt to get into the base and instead just trying to interfere. Because if one was trying to get into second safe they wouldn’t do cart wheels into the outfield grass.
  9. Not sure what people are mad about. Adames slid over the bag by approximately 20 feet. You gotta stay by the bag, he didn’t. It’s dumb, didn’t affect that play…but Adames decided to do cartwheels for some reason.
  10. Best case he moves the runner over to second with a walk.
  11. The patience of the home plate ump there. Surprised he didn’t toss him.
  12. Not trying to be mean/condescending…but you really should read up on base running with less than two outs. Jace getting to 3rd there is very far from certain. He would have had to bank on him not catching that ball pretty early considering that it didn’t bounce very far from him. I can’t go back and change history to see, but I’m not sure he is getting to third there. I can for certain say he would have been nowhere even in the same zip code as home though.
  13. Absolutely zero chance that is even close to an RBI had he stayed at first. Might not have even been 2 and 3 So say it with me, if Jace was ahead of Keston and he got to 2nd, what base would Jace have been on? Maybe not an RBI but definitely 2nd and 3rd. Sorry man, not how it works. Hiura got to second because he had nothing to lose if it was caught or not. Jace would have had to wait unsure if it would be caught or not (less than two outs). Considering it was in RF behind first base he probably would have been halfway. After he didn’t get there Jace would have hustled to second. Say it with me, simple really.
  14. Absolutely zero chance that is even close to an RBI had he stayed at first. Might not have even been 2 and 3
  15. WINKER!!!!! WIIIIIIINKER. W-I-N-K-E-R!!!! Not Winkler man!!!
  16. Wasn’t his rise during the launch angle/juiced ball time? Maybe his swing benefitted from tha, but has just tanked with the ‘unjuiced ball’. I was looking up his stats on baseball savant. In 2018/2019 he had a massive chunk of ‘no doubters’, big decline last year, and zero of his homers this year are classified as ‘no doubters’ He ain’t hitting them and it appears they aren’t clearing the fence by as much these days.
  17. Next three years, higher OPS: Adames or Yelich
  18. This commentary is like they just picked up two drunk guys from the bleachers to talk. I hate nationally televised baseball games so bad.
  19. Half the time the guy asks the secondary guy something and his mic ain’t working for 20 seconds.
  20. How does this guy have a job as a commentator? Brendon Woodruff Jesse Winkler Good lord man UPDATE: Keston HAIR-ah
  21. Better yet, the kid looks like he's t-ball/coach-pitch age. Why isn't dad getting out of the car and helping coach? Along the same vibe, this one always bugged the crap out of me. Mom is literally filing her nails and listening to her audiobook, while dad dries dishes, instead of going to their kid's game. Imagine your child being so committed they are practicing alone, in the dark at 4:40am, and you don't even go to their games.
  22. Cubs have a nice two way player that could give us bullpen depth and play the field as a utility guy.
  23. #1 A team trying to do a rebuild doesn't want a low ceiling back of the rotation starter. They want potential. #2 What is the point of trading Lauer instead of prospects and then go reacquire a starter using prospects? Why not keep the pitcher doing well for you and just trade the prospects for the guy you want in the first place. You didn't really avoid trading away prospects. You just added an extra step and added risk.
  24. Not sure they were ever really set up to be a dynasty. They were largely lead by old starters and the bullpen wasn't exactly a bunch of controllable stars. Sure, the offense was young and promising, but many of the young prospects that were coming up while they were good flamed out. Once their aces left or became ineffective and they added some poor long term contracts (or long term contracts got towards the back end) it all started to decline exactly as you would expect. I think the Cubs goal was always to try and maximize their success right up till this point where Rizzo/Bryant/etc. were old/leaving. I don't think the Cubs were trying to build a long term dynasty so it isn't surprising it didn't happen.
