  1. Video has caught Freddy Peralta this year. The whole safety/control thing is a stupid excuse. Pitchers are using it to increase spin rate and that does the Alex act opposite of help control.
  2. I don’t think you trade up for depth...I get what you are saying and ever since the pick I never thought Love HAD to replace Rodgers (like you I thought he could just be traded eventually if Rodgers excelled)...but your don't trade up for Love to simply be depth. Clearly he was drafted with the thought he could be a big time QB if Rodgers continued to decline. Love was definitely viewed as a potential and even likely successor to Rodgers much like Rodgers was for Favre.
  3. So Krispy Kreme gives a free donut every day away so here me out: Wisconsin partners with a beer company and gives a free beer away each day! 100% vaccinated! Not sure if it should be in blue or not.
  4. Brian Brohm says, "Hello". I don't recall Rodgers getting his undies in a bundle about that pick. So you are the second person to mention this. "or so" usually means give or take, not literally what I said. If it wasn't obvious enough I was referring to once Rodgers cemented himself as a legit starting QB, I am referring to once Rodgers cemented himself as a legit starter. Obviously once that happened there was zero chance they were wasting a top pick on a QB regardless of the player for over a decade.
  5. Padres are a media darling because they have made huge moves in the offseason for multiple years in a row and have some really exciting young stars/players. Snell/Darvish acquired, Grisham acquired, Crownenworth/Tatis Jr. debuting recently, brought in Machado, pretty notable names in the bullpen, Musgrove/Paddack/Weathers. Man....must be fun cheering for that team. You are kind of expected to beat up the bad teams and tread water against other good teams. If you dominated everyone you would be winning 110+ games.
  6. Maybe, maybe not. Wouldn't have hurt anything to do so. If anything they could have had real conversations about expectations of why they drafted him etc. instead of Rodgers having to guess or read rumors through the media. I don't think the Packers communication was that great before or after the pick. The "Oh Rodgers is our QB" is kind of garbage, especially if that talk through the media was the main source of communication between parties. The whole attitude of expecting Rodgers to just show up and do his job while sweeping any Love talk under the carpet is a pretty dumb way to go about it, especially knowing Rodger's personality. Not sure about anyone else, but communication and being up front about something usually goes a long way. To me it seems the Packers didn't really care to do that. Instead they waited for it to boil over. And before anyone jumps on me, yes, I realize no one really know what went down and what they may have talked about regarding Love after the fact. I am just going off of what some of the rumors have been and what it appears in like in my mind.
  7. I frankly don't see a scenario where Garcia is back next year. Either he plays so well that he declines his option for a better contract or he continues being marginally productive and the Brewers look elsewhere. I'm just not sure a middle ground exists where his performance makes the Brewers feel like picking up the extra $10 million and Avi doesn't opt out. Thanks, I forgot it is a team option. Yah, I am guessing he is gone regardless. We are on the hook for $2mil regardless, basically.
  8. I'm not sure they knew they were going to draft Love until 10 minutes before they drafted him. That isn't what he said though. He is simply pointing out the fact the Packers knew they were willing to draft a QB in the first round before hand. You don't just decide, hey, lets trade up and draft a QB. You had to have had quite a few conversations over a period of time prior to the draft to be willing to trade up for a QB like that. I am guessing the 15 or so drafts prior basically any QB in the entire draft could have fallen to their first (or even second) pick and they wouldn't have drafted them.
  9. Don't question it, the art community will judge you. Art is art.....shhh.....art is art. I saw an article yesterday where a bride had a heart attack at the alter and died. But as they say the wedding must go on and the groom got approval to marry the brides younger sister. It was in India or something.
  10. We better hope Avisail Garcia declines his option. That means he played well the entire year, if he is picking that up he probably torpedoed his OPS close to .700. I think we are stuck with JBJ at this point regardless of how the year ends. He would have to go 2018 Christian Yelich in the second half to be declining that money.
  11. I thought of this and while it made sense, I remembered the packers don't seem to really tell Rodgers anything personnel related. For that reason I doubt the thought of actually talking about the draft and potentially drafting a QB ever crossed their minds. Gute knows he messed up, he has said that. I think his acknowledgment of that is more than just trying to appease Rodgers to get him back with the team.
  12. I don’t think Rodgers doesn’t believe winning an MVP is job security, it is. He even acknowledged it “threw a wrench in their plan” as in now they can’t dump me this year. The problem is it isn’t long term job security. If Rodgers played 4 MVP caliber games and had a season ending injury, what would the Packers do? Let him go? I think that is the problem. After a decade and a half and coming off an MVP year he feels he deserves longer term job security. As I have said before, I can’t blame the guy for that.
  13. Sure, Rodgers could get hurt or start to decline. On the flip side Jordan Love could be a garbage starting QB. If you put odds on those two scenarios regretting a Rodgers extension would be like...10%. Now, odds Love never becomes a pro bowl QB? Well over 50%. I don’t really see any reason to be concerned handing Rodgers a contract when it comes to injury or decline risk. That risk is there, but I don’t think the chance should be concerning.
  14. The Oakland A's are feeding players a sliced bread sand which with: lettuce, a slice of tomato, and a slice of cheese. No...I didn't forget to mention the meat, there was none.
  15. The expertise on Hiura's swing, stance, leg kick, etc. being the problem is truly extensive on the forum. Yet not a single hitting expert or coach with the Brewers has ever had him make this change? Idk...I think his issues may be more than a swing or stance. People like to make Hiura's problems seem simple, but I don't think it is.
  16. Hard to come through when your coach decides to kick a field goal though. I get your point though. They had the ball at least two other possessions earlier in the fourth quarter where a drive for a TD would have given them the lead and did nothing with them. It's also not lost on me the one time Rodgers and the Packers got to and won the Super Bowl, the defense won and closed out 3 of their 4 playoff games when the opponent had legit chances of taking the lead or tying the game with the ball after the Packers' offense seemingly turtled down the stretch when they had opportunities to put the game away, including the Super Bowl. Rodgers lit the world on fire in that Falcons game and was solid in the Super Bowl against the Steelers, but his performance was far from elite against the Eagles and Bears. Your paragraph is proving the point. Your rebuttal is knocking him for an Eagles game where he threw for 3 TDs and had a QB rating in excess of 120. Then you use the Steelers game where he had 3 TDs/0 INTs/300+ Yards against a Steelers defense that ranked #1 in the entire league in the biggest sporting event in the world. I mean if one wants to knock Rodgers for not scoring a TD on 100% of his drives, have at it. Because that seems like the argument all too often when it comes to Rodgers in the playoffs, especially when referring to the 2010 run. He had one bad game against a Top 5 defense, on the road, in Chicago in late January. Without looking I am guessing that playoff run is one of the best stat lines for a QB ever.
  17. Don't forget the first Jennings TD over the middle.
  18. Here is a big difference. This is Hiura's heat map against fastball offerings when he is behind in the count. 2019 is the first link, 2021 is the second link. When ahead in the count pitchers like to throw fastballs down and away at an incredibly high percentage. 2019 https://www.fangraphs.com/players/keston-hiura/20003/heat-maps?position=2B&ss=&se=&type=0&hand=all&count=behind&blur=1&grid=10&view=bat&pitch=CU,FA,FC,FS&season=2019&data=pi 2021 https://www.fangraphs.com/players/keston-hiura/20003/heat-maps?position=2B&ss=&se=&type=0&hand=all&count=behind&blur=1&grid=10&view=bat&pitch=CU,FA,FC,FS&season=2021&data=pi You could play around with these heat maps endlessly and in my opinion this is really describes why he is struggling. He can't hit fastballs high and he can't hit them low and away. This goes for off speed stuff too. His average and ability to make contact in these areas is pretty bad. Ironically these two areas are also where most of his power output comes from, that is probably why he still showed power in 2020 even though he sucked quite a bit. Great success when he puts high and low away fastballs in play...but also the biggest areas he can't make contact. Not a good combination to have if you want success. Career Contact % https://www.fangraphs.com/players/keston-hiura/20003/heat-maps?position=2B&ss=&se=&hand=all&count=all&pitch=&season=all&view=bat&data=&grid=10&blur=1&type=3 Career ISO on Balls in Play https://www.fangraphs.com/players/keston-hiura/20003/heat-maps?position=2B&ss=&se=&hand=all&count=all&pitch=&season=all&view=bat&data=&grid=10&blur=1&type=11 The high fastball is just crippling for the guy though. 55% contact rate at the top of the strike zone and about 35% just above the strike zone for 2019. In 2021 he has a contact rate between 5%-25% just inside the top of the strike zone and 0% just above the strike zone. 2020 was somewhat in between the two...so this has declined every year of his career. They have to find a way for him to hit high fastballs. Until then, nothing will matter. When scrub pitchers are making you whiff on high fastballs like it is coming in at 110mph you will not find success. Pitchers have learned him and are pitching him differently. He needs to adjust or he will never improve.
  19. Hard to come through when your coach decides to kick a field goal though. I get your point though.
  20. Guessing when Hiura goes down we quite likely won't see him again until September. Maybe he would get one more shot in early/mid July to convince them not to trade for a 1B, but he has been so pathetic that may not be worth the false hope it may give. The only reason Hiura is even on this team right now is because Vogelbach and Shaw are so dang putrid. Yelich...that guy is just depressing to watch. Like Hiura, you are wondering how he will let you down over and over and over.
  21. Sure, we can nitpick to say why any player has lost a game. Rodgers isn’t perfect and can’t possibly be great every game. One glaring problem is the Packers pretty much never built a team around Rodgers that could carry the team if he wasn’t incredible. The one team that could (2010) won a Super Bowl. That’s the only win in his entire career with a sub 90 QB rating. The 2015 team probably should have done it, but at the end of the day the special teams/defense crumbled at the very end. Really the only game Rodgers let us down and he should really take a lot of blame was the 2016 AZ game. He just wasn’t good that game and the defense played pretty dang well. I suppose he wasn’t fantastic in the Giants game, but no one really was in that game in 2012. Hard to blame the QB when the defense continues giving up 31/37/44 points in games to get bounced. Rodgers entire career he has been expected to light up the scoreboard or they will lose. I don’t think the narrative that Rodger has been wasted and his team has consistently let him down is that inaccurate. He isn’t perfect, but as you said he has not ran into much luck in the postseason. Fun Fact I Found: Aaron Rodgers lowest QB rating in a win (not including the Bears game) was in 2015 when he had a 93.5.
  22. Before Gute the Packers had a defense that ranked 21/22/26 when it came to points allowed. That’s pretty bad and certainly made it nearly impossible, regardless of what Rodgers did, to win a Super Bowl. It looks even worse considering how much was invested in the draft to defense back in those days (I think). Waste may be a strong word, but it was a crummy supporting cast on that side of the ball. Of course I think the expectation of winning a bunch of Super Bowls is somewhat unreasonable. More often than not QBs aren’t returning that often, Tom Brady is an outlier. Feels like more than once the defense blew the game in OT before Rodgers ever touched a ball. The Seahawks game was absolutely brutal. Special teams and defense blew regulation...then defense blew OT. Rodgers had his struggles at times, but certainly seems the team around him and the organization let him down a whole lot more. Too bad the current front office didn’t show up 5 years sooner.
  23. Jeez, wasn't Adell suppose to be a project coming out of HS? Even if not, wow they rushed him through the minors. Not sure Keston Hiura was really all that rushed. Same draft and Hiura only made it a year earlier despite being a college bat. He only has a few hundred ABs less in the minors compared to Adell.
