  1. So pitchers and batters both benefit....so it cancels out and no one really benefits? Honestly I am not sure it really would change much outside of fans not having it to complain about anymore and batters not throwing temper tantrums. You would have a bit of a problem making a truly accurate strike zone that could effectively change for each batter. It it ends up off, even marginally, it isn't much better than humans doing it now. People always assume the little box on the screen is accurate...but is it really? Over the plate would be fairly easy, but top and bottom of the zone wouldn't be. I am guessing such system would not be accurate, but everyone would think it is just because a robot is doing it and the box would be perceived as accurate.
  2. Or the fact we lost Grandal and Moustakas. They were then replaced by Narvaez (not with the team prior and sucked in 2020) and Hiura (horrendous after 2019...but he can't hit it even if you told him what was coming).
  3. There is no way that is true. What we have now is technology that analyzes every pitch so you can clearly see if a ball is an inch outside or not. I can assure you if you watch an old game from 20+ years ago you will see balls 6 inches or more off the plate called strikes but you didn't have strikezone box over homeplate on the telecast so you just kind of eyeballed it and said it is what it is. Yah, literally anything wrong and people want to throw the ump in prison for the rest of their life. I think people forget almost all of these wrong calls are a matter of an inch or two...sometimes even less. It isn't rare for fans to be up in arms on a 'ball' call that the telecast has to blow up the strike zone to full screen and see if there is one pixel between the zone and ball. If you took that box away I bet fans at home would be wrong way more than any ump is by a wide margin. I don't think the umps are that bad, but I do think there is a problem when these umpires are impossible to punish or fire. Some of them are pretty bad. MLB even knows it, but can't do anything. If MLB was filled with guys actually rewarded to be there based on performance I don't think it is that bad of an issue.
  4. Is this true? I hadn’t heard that. Yeah. I can’t find the video, but it was from the Braves game. He had it between the thumb and webbing on the inside of his glove. I know a lot of pitchers do it, but it will be notable if they actually crack down on it. Isn’t Peralta a big spin rate guy and that is part of why he is much improved these days?
  5. Speaking of cheating, Freddy Peralta is an obvious user of foreign substance inside his glove. I thought MLB was going to crack down on that, but can’t say I have seen any punishment. John Means may be the worst in baseball. His fingers literally get stuck on his glove, dude got gorilla glue in there or something. Means threw a no hitter earlier in the year.
  6. I'm with you on that. When was the last time the Brewers had a SS with a 4 WAR? It was nice not holding my breath every time he makes a throw to first too. 2013 - Jean Segura
  7. Suter is a legitimate multi inning guy...the problem isn’t him, it is the person creating the team making him a high leverage reliever. He isn’t a high leverage guy.
  8. YES! YES! YES! Rare we catch that kind of break in a big spot offensively.
  9. I get this isn’t expected...but good lord, this is a ridiculous delay. My wife gets ready faster and that is not a compliment to the ump...
  10. Glad I could tune in just in time to see the pathetic duo of Vogelbach/Shaw absolutely fail to do anything useful.
  11. I absolutely loved that trade when it happened. Glad to see Stearns start to get rewarded for it.
  12. Who cares that he is a former top prospect. Why not just talk about his 1250 PAs of pretty good production as an MLB player? Former top prospects are everywhere...and many suck. That’s something you usually have to mention when you trade for a guy that sucks, but you try to rationalize the upside any way possible. Exactly like the guy we are replacing after barely a month of watching him be the guy. Urias wasn’t a good player and for many it looked pretty obvious from the second the ink dried. A guys prospect status 3-4 years ago is getting pretty irrelevant.
  13. How can they tell people to keep their mask on vaccinated, but in the next month loads of pro teams will have 100% capacity of unknown vaccinated/not vaccinated strangers packed like sardines cans.
  14. If Adames can OPS .750+ it is pretty hard for this deal to be bad.
  15. Bad enough that Eric Thames is the MVP? Hey now, Thames is OPSing 1.6ish in Japan right now so Korean League must be better than that at least. I’d rather have Thames over Vogelbach if I am being honest.
  16. How does Suter handle Counsell in the dugout chugging 100 of those mini plastic water bottles a game?
  17. I think Stearns got caught up in SS being a more premium position compared to a corner OFer. I think the signings of Cain, JBJ, and especially Avisail Garcia (who essentially replaced Grisham) is a clear sign of this. Stearns thinks that is an easier position to find help with via FA etc. and SS is not. I am guessing the Brewers found Urias/Grisham to be comparable value, but one was going to do it at a more premium position.
  18. My thoughts: 1) I am glad Stearns isn’t stuck at watching Urias suck for half a decade like we did with Arcia before making a change. 2) Adames has had decent offensive stats throughout his career. Not eye popping...but nice stats. I also think he has solid defense. 3) I saw someone infer SS don’t tend to hit. It is not the thin no offense position it used to be. The influx of international talent has made it a pretty strong offensive position in all honesty. Lots of .750+ OPS bats at SS these days. I admit, this is a pretty wacky trade for us, especially while competing. If Adames hits and the pitcher is serviceable I will like this trade a lot. But that is me hoping Adames ends up a .750+ OPS bat. He could be.
  19. My guess would be the umpire would have as hard a time as the hitter seeing the pitch and not call very many strikes. Or the pitcher wouldn't be able to hit his spots because people were in his line of sight. Or the batter does see the occasional pitch and hits a 105 mph ball at someone riding piggy back two feet away from home plate preventing future players from trying it. There really isn't anyway they can position players where the pitcher and the umpire can see the pitch, throw it for a strike without the batter seeing it. Play Ball
  20. Fire Andy Haines and just make everyone play MLB: The Show against the opposing team before every game. Heck, let them drink Mtn Dew and eat Doritos while they do it. The results may not change, but probably would be cheaper.
  21. Okay, hear me out. What If a team took all their players and stuck them directly in front of home in a way that the batter has absolutely no way to see the pitch coming. Give each other piggyback rides to get higher than the batters eyes and block the pitcher from view. This by definition is not against the rules, is it not? I would keep this trick play in my back pocket until the biggest moment of the year. 3 outs from the world series win I am deploying this strategy stunning the entire sports world.
  22. I think they knew it was rather unnecessary to wear a mask after being fully vaccinated, but waited for a lull in vaccinating to give that guidance. It gives people a potential motivation to go get vaccinated. Call me dumb, but they should have just given people stimulus checks to go get it. Vaccinations jumped 25%+ in Ohio after they started their little lotto game. Can you imagine if you were guaranteed $1K in your bank account if you went and got it? I think I recall some politicians floating the concept, but it didn't gain traction. I know I know, people should just get it for free, but that just is not reality.
  23. I mean, soccer does it...hockey does it. Though I am not sure where I am going with this as I don't like either of those sports. I guess football has rules regarding the number of guys on kick offs each side of the kicker. I don't think it would be overly ridiculous if they forced the defense to keep two guys on each side. You could still shift around quite a bit. I would not be opposed to forcing infielders to stay, well, in the infield. I don't know about other people, but I am getting kind of tired seeing absolute missiles to RF become routine ground outs.
