  1. They have already stated some kind of ST would be required. Doubt they would change that. Since they are sending all these players home they really won’t be doing much training.
  2. Realistic goal is indeed June 1st.
  3. This article was pretty cool with some dot simulations. https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/world/corona-simulator/
  4. Being a person who is remote as is I am going to be a bit upset if I don’t get to work from home soon. Usually I drive 40 minutes to sit in a companies crammed office that requires a space heater in the winter to stay warm. All so I can open up my computer and work on it...I could do that at home. Sometimes I go to different places and must go in, but a large majority I’m just wasting my time and gas. I kind of look forward to doing what I should be able to do any other day for once.
  5. They have no obligation to pay MiLB or MLB players at this point. I didn’t think MiLB players got paid during ST anyway. So they aren’t in uncharted territory yet if that is true. No word on how they are going to handle MLB salaries...I’m sure MiLB will follow whatever they do at the big league level. The problem is they can’t decide to pay MiLB and not MLB, that would probably not fly. If you feel bad for MiLB players why are you not paying the poor stadium workers out of a job? At some point it is the harsh reality...hopefully the teams come together and help out not only the players, but the stadium staffs that can’t work too. A lot of hourly workers banking on a job in two weeks that are now jobless. Many big corporations (like Disney) are doing that.
  6. I also disagree. There are many countries that will be looked at as examples that failed and are getting hit hard. If the US gets out pretty unscathed I think people will understand that “success”...not just call it an overreaction. Of course there is always going to be a crowd that thinks it was a huge overreaction etc. People think this is a joke and nothing will really change that. On the MLB topic, Trevor Bauer is organizing a sandlot game. He has confirmed it will happen.
  7. You say the NBA etc. is big money and they didn’t cancel. The tourney is enormous money (one billion) and they canceled. It is also huge money for the venues. Financially the NCAA made the most sense to not cancel. In the pro sports at least you can opt to not pay players tens of millions, NCAA they don’t cost you anything regardless. The TV money is where it is at. That would cover the hypothetical salaries a million times over. No one wanted that tourney to take place more than the NCAA. Salaries are irrelevant, these leagues would make more playing in empty stadiums paying players than they are sitting at home right now. Of course maybe insurance came into play, who knows. I don’t see player salaries effecting anything though.
  8. Current rumor is MLB is determined to keep a 162 game schedule. While they are far from a true plan (since they have no idea when they will start) is to stick the front end of the schedule on the end. If the entire month of April is missed that essentially means April is then October. Rumor has it they would stretch this thing out well into November to make it happen. An unlikely idea, that I doubt happens, is to play the World Series at a neutral site (Miami) because it obviously gets cold in many cities. Though we have a retractable roof so I don’t see the issue for half the WS equation.
  9. I think the concept is not leaving your house, period. I don’t think it is about the 14 day period. Of course are people hoarding 2 months of TP actually not leaving their house? I doubt it. Flattering to think Americans care about having to quarantine. Probably hundreds with COVID-19 symptoms walking around because they don’t care. People are pretty selfish. The media is why it is a problem though. Make a news story about one store running out of TP and everyone panics to go get some before their store has the same fate. My small town has a full aisle of TP and the store is like any other day of the year.
  10. Was the team actually negotiating this? Seems like a throw in to me, but the way it is worded it seems like there was back and forth on game tickets. Mutually agreed upon games? Was there really negotiation on this when we are talking about a 215 million dollar deal? Just 20 games? Were we really negotiating this down from say 30 games? Just 4 tickets? Seems laughable to even include this part in the deal to the public. Just Give him a suite and any tickets he wants and keep it private. We're talking 215 million dollars here to a franchise player and game tickets are part of the negotiation? Kinda like buying a house and negotiating about the doormats. I would guess it is something Yelich requested and they threw in there. I doubt there was any negotiation. The tickets are probably in the owners box, so he probably wanted nice tickets for when family/friends visited. Guys make MLB debuts and you see their family in crummy seats...so I can see why a guy may want to request it. Players always have tickets available to them...but obviously not owners box good. It is funny it got put into the contract though.
  11. I approve a symbolic bracket because then it makes it all the more easy for me to say Kansas was symbolically the champion. In all seriousness it is really unfortunate to see some of the players have to go out like this. Seems common sense spring athletes would keep a year of eligibility. Winter athletes, no, I don’t get that at all. Yah, sucks they didn’t get their postseason games. I don’t see them deserving of an entire year of eligibility back though. You are basically allowing someone five years of full play. All but 68 teams were completely done and half of those team had one game left.
  12. Okay I don’t mean to fit into the current joke of millennials thinking about cheap travel....but it is $285 to fly to Hawaii right now.
  13. It is very different, but I can tell you many are considering the decision to close and some will definitely follow through with that. Not to mention daycares aren’t really an answer for school aged kids...those places are usually packed full as is. They don’t have the room to take on K-4 or whatever you deem necessary to be watched. Good luck getting a kid into daycare right now.
  14. Many daycares follow suit and close when a school does. This is no different. My area daycare is considering it.
  15. Entire state is shut down for grade school, till 6th of April. Terrible, just terrible.
  16. I know a few people that work at MLB ballparks (and MiLB) and the general consensus is May 1st...at the earliest. That is pretty much the best case too, so it has a good chance of getting later.
  17. Since every pro sport has canceled events as well, I would say no, it would be the same. Not every pro sport has cancelled events. There are many that have postponed them. Last I saw, the NBA, NHL, and others haven't cancelled the season. The NCAA canceled their biggest money maker and one of the biggest ones in all of sports. I don't get what you are trying to infer. Why would they have not canceled events if they were paying players?
  18. Personally I think it is being underestimated how long it will take to get going, when fans will even be allowed, and the very real possibility the season could potentially not happen. The NBA says there is a potential that the season may never be finished. Crazy as that is, no one knows at this point what will happen.
  19. A) This isn't about protecting athletes. It is to reduce spread so healthy people aren't giving it to at risk groups. B) Many people are no longer going to work, they have been sent home and/or are working from home.
  20. So they canceled all the WIAA tourney events. Why? Well that is a good question because instead of being around a small number of people they now just have to go to school instead...where they closely interact with hundreds of people in close quarters. This is getting to the point where things are getting canceled for no logical reason while things, like school...keep going on. Arguably one of the worst places while a virus goes on. Like the toilet paper craze. Everyone has a 2 months supply of TP now and I bet they have less than a weeks supply of food.
  21. NBA has already been honest and said it looks like a month minimum. Mind you they can start up right away, I would guess. MLB has already said some type of spring training/conditioning would have to happen first. The odds the season is only delayed 2 weeks would be nothing short of a miracle. While your example did work for a single series I bet that doesn't work for all teams...not to mention how are you rescheduling the Cardinals...who we also face in the first slate of games that is canceled? And great, we play the Cubs now...but now the Cubs never play the Nationals while every other NL Central team plays them 4 times? You just aren't fixing the schedule if weeks start getting canceled.
  22. I think there is close to a zero percent chance they try to make up games on off days. you guys are forgetting many games inevitably will be rained out over the course of the season. You are going to cancel games, there is absolutely no way to sugar coat it. You could cancel the All Star break to make up a series...but why on earth would you do that? That just sounds terrible. Only way that happens is if the season is suddenly canceled to the point calling players All Stars is a joke. They certainly won't cancel it purely to make up 3 games. You simply have to leave it the way it is and throw away the missed games like they were never scheduled. Then, when it does start, it will move along smoothly without issues. You will have the standard off days to reschedule games that get rained out etc. and people who had tickets to those games can have zero issues and all the travel planning can stay the same. Logistical dream. The only potential issue is I think you would have to somehow balance games played. Which probably does not match if we miss the first 2 weeks or month +.
  23. I’d imagine they would try to the best of their ability to make the schedule as accurate as possible. The logistical horror and upheaval if they started changing opponents/locations would a total nightmare. If Opening Day (or any game for that matter) is canceled and it is instead some other game on the schedule I am sure one would get an outright refund or whatever face value was as a credit for a different 2020 game. I know one team has announced that later. It isn’t perfect, but that does solve the problem of getting screwed out of Opening Day. At least you still get that tickets value and not a straight swap for an inferior game. Really unfair to some teams if games get canceled and divisional match ups end up disproportionate etc. For example we play the Cubs/Cards right away. If those games aren’t made up those are some tough games we just threw off our schedule. The Reds on the other hand would lose their 3 game series to the 95 loss Blue Jays.
  24. No, any legit site refunds.
  25. I know one team plans on refunds being given as a credit and you can use it to buy tickets to other 2020 games. Though that was somewhat surprising, think it was Seattle.
