  1. That was probably their worst trade ever even before the scandal. Carlos Gomez was worthless and Fiers was also quite terrible. Collectively I think they had a 0.3 WAR together. Brett Phillips had 4x that for us directly on the MLB field himself.
  2. Obviously, I think yesterday's election has the potential to destroy the optimistic projections for Wisconsin.... While not beneficial, I think it’s impact won’t really be that relevant. Those polling places aren’t much different than everyone needing to go to the grocery store. Really the way I think of it they are probably way better. Constantly cleaning and wiping things down...lots of hand sanitizer. Most grocery stores probably don’t provide you hand sanitizer and probably wipe things down at the end of each day. Obviously funneling a bunch of people to the polls isn’t the best thing in the world, but for the majority of places the lack of turnout and absentee will really minimize how many were truly going through those places. Pretty sure more hit up the bar for fish fry takeout last Friday than my polling place from the sounds of it. The pictures of Milwaukee are all the rage, but I’m guessing most places didn’t have huge lines (and to be fair those people did social distance).
  3. IMHE updated projections. US as a whole is three days from a peak and Wisconsin is only 5 days from a peak (April 13th). IMHE has it virtually done in Wisconsin by May...though my understanding is their model assumes we social distance till June. We will see how this new projection ages. Seems optimistic to be only 3-5 days before this thing starts tailing off for most of the country. But...I suppose social distancing can be a magical thing. I’d be surprised if WalMart is actually doing all that well...or any big box. I think most people aren’t traveling that much for their needs. Normally a lot of people would go out of their way for a big box, but now people just want to stay close to home...not to mention the number of people in a box box store many times. I think our small town grocery store is benefiting more from people not traveling versus the panic buying. Many would take a 25-35 minute drive for a Wal Mart/Target...now they just stay in town. I’m sure the panic buying is nice, but that is a short term spike.
  4. Every ice cream place I know of is open...as is any bakery (like cakes and stuff...not bread). I know of one bakery that was worried of being considered non essential and they started selling eggs and bags of flour as a loophole if they were told to shutdown. I’d blame them, but I don’t know many places voluntarily shutting down. Any other business would do the same if they could.
  5. A) I think he would rather be playing games...he and others are really losing piles of money not playing. B) I doubt he holds everyone’s money ransom in the stock market and even if he did I don’t know why he would be happy...he would still be at a huge net loss doing that.
  6. The popular U of Washington model projects we should be needing just under 1k hospital beds in Wisconsin right now. 28% of positive cases have been hospitalized, which is about 690 people. Even if you assumed all those people were still in the hospital (which obviously is not the case or even close for that matter) that is well below the current projection. Annoyingly the U of Washington model doesn’t project # of cases so I’m not sure if we are doing better than expected in the department or if the % of people that are positive going to the hospital is lower than expected.
  7. Most projections, even for the latest states to be done, have the US being essentially done once we enter June. July there is projected to be zero hospital beds needed. I’m not very worried about there not being a season. They seem overly determined to make it happen. They will start games in July if they have to. I don’t see anything, at this moment, that would make me think there won’t be a season. Only reason at this point to be convinced there won’t be a season is if you are pessimistic. As far as May, yah, that I doubt.
  8. I think no one has even a sliver of an idea whether something will or won’t happen at this point.
  9. The answer to this finally came out, yes they will be reinstated.
  10. We aren’t NYC and won’t get even close to what they are going through.
  11. Eau Claire had a bar that covered the front windows with black bags and then snuck people in the back. Think he got a $300 fine for it.
  12. Wisconsin says about 25% are hospitalized, but then again...we are only testing serious cases and to start were only testing those worthy of the hospital. The current MLB plan is to award Los Angeles the neutral site for the World Series because they lose the AS game. If the Dodgers go to the World Series their “road games” would be at the Angels or Padres stadium. Their “home games” would actually be at home. What an epic joke that would be.
  13. Yea. It's going to be the old saying, it's going to get worse before it gets better. I don't know how long a test takes to get back (I know it used to be 5 days), but If you walked it back plus took into consideration a buffer time to show symptoms the next few days should reflect the majority of cases right before the stay at home order. By the mid-end of next week the positive cases should be mostly reflecting infections happening after the stay at home order started.
  14. Wisconsin saw their biggest daily increase yet with 199 new positive cases. 13.7% of tests were positive on the day, much higher than the average rate of about 8.2%.
  15. This got me for approximately 0 seconds because rosters are frozen and teams can't do anything.
  16. It would actually be an incredible help if the masks were available in such a quantity. It doesn't protect you as much as it protects you from spreading. That would be pretty huge for asymptomatic people. Of course that assumes people use them correctly and don't touch their face etc. It isn't a bad idea to encourage people to use those homemade cloth masks if they have them. It is certainly miles better than nothing.
  17. We are the only state holding an April primary as planned, what an embarrassment. I don’t think they is another in person voting primary the entire month. We’re are going to close down the state and ban gatherings outside a household, but turn around and have an in person vote.
  18. Were you calling for a shutdown every flu season? 80,000 people died in the U.S. over the 2017-18 flu season. Nothing shut down, you had to scramble to even find a story about it. If those people are more important than the economy, we really should shut down for a few months every year. Because flu season spans 3 to 6 months, December to February, or you can expand it each direction. This has killed a lot of people in a fraction of that time. The mortality rate is at MINIMUM 10x more deadly than the flu. If nothing was done, that 80,000 number would happen in less than two weeks. The current fatality rate that is believed to be true is somewhere between 6x and 7x more deadly than the flu. Of course the death rate really isn't the issue...it is all the people being hospitalized which I am sure is way more than the seasonal flu. We don't know anything for sure right now though. We are far from really knowing the accurate death rate. tens of thousands in this country probably know they have coronavirus right now, but aren't even allowed a test. Millions will get it and never know.
  19. A Navy hospital ship arrived in New York yesterday and huge crowds of people gathered to watch/greet it. Natural selection people, natural selection.
  20. Except flattening the curve slows down getting to the peak and makes the entire ordeal take longer. It makes it take months instead of a few weeks. Flattening the curve is good for a lot of things, but it is at the expense of time and our economy.
  21. Yahoo front page header: "Coronavirus Updates: Death Toll in U.S. surpasses initial fatalities in 9/11 attacks." How does such a headline start trending for multiple media outlets? Scare tactics is all the media knows how to use. They can even stoop as low as bringing up a terrorist attack for comparison. We aren't even 25% of the way to the amount of flu deaths this country sees per year and that is dangerous to small kids.
  22. Keep in mind these teams still need spring training. Arizona/Florida are probably more important states to follow as both of those states being shutdown would make it really hard to get everyone up to speed. They could probably still find way to get players ready in different states, but it would get tough. This season could easily start in July without much issue. If they can find ways to have a spring training in June I don't think there is any reason to believe there won't be a season. If the MLB stadiums/cities aren't up to speed by July not too big of a deal.
  23. The Today show this morning: "The death toll has now surpassed the amount of people that died in the September 11th terrorist attacks." What a absolutely terrible and idiotic thing to say. Whoever came up with that quote should be fired. It is incredibly annoying and frustrating the lack of coverage on RECOVERED cases. It is all about deaths and positive cases. Wisconsin DHS doesn't track recovered cases on their site at all...at least no where easily found that I can see. Sheboygan, for example, has 10 positive cases. However 6/10 (60%) are recovered leaving them with only 4 active cases. Feel like that should be pretty relevant information being tracked and easy to find. I think another outbreak in the Fall is likely, but I also think it is likely the world will come up with a vaccine and/or antiviral drug by then. It takes long to do those things, but this is the focus of the entire world so I think it will be figured out faster than usual. We will see how bad it is, but I don't think these shutdowns will even be a consideration. Virginia is now shutdown till June 10th. Seems borderline insane to go that far out. Small businesses might as well close shop now, I guess they don't have to keep hoping for things to open up in a few weeks constantly. Just terrible.
  24. Wuhan residents think the Chinese numbers are garbage (reported 2,500 deaths in that city). While information is tough to figure out over there they say funeral homes and cremation centers have been going non stop 24/7. One funeral home reportedly got two shipment equaling 10k urns in a two day period. Most believe the death toll was more accurately in the 40k range. They believe they are paying hush money to quiet families. So yah, seems China is hiding the real death toll and infected rates. Not shocking, but the residents over there certainly feel that way.
  25. Coming from the guy who says 200k are going to die from this in our country? Can leaders decide if they want to be optimistic or use scare tactics?
