You know those trendy lights you can put on your house that you keep up all year for every holiday? Yah…those things look dumb and look like the cheap corny junk they are. It looks even worse when the neighbors decide it is a good idea too. Sorry to anyone who has them.

It just means the Brewers aren’t deferring money and spreading it out over an additional year. The low buyout is actually a win in Chourio’s corner. -$80mil plus $17mil or $2mil buyout = $97mil or $82mil -$72mil plus $17mil or $10mil buyout= $89mil or $82mil Same guaranteed money, but he ends up with a lot more the lower that buyout is in the event the Brewers pick up the options.

The option years will probably be pretty reasonable, that is the whole purpose of them. If you are a good starter they are no brainers to pick up. Probably around $20mil or so...maybe less. Acuna Jr. has a VERY similar contract at 8/$100mil and his options are only $17mil. I can't imagine...even if they negotiated amazingly, that Chourio was able to make those options elite level money.

They need to acquire Rizzo for 1B. I mean...imagine a 1-2 punch of Chourizzo. The ultimate middle of the lineup sausage.

I mean, realistically, there is basically no risk for Chourio. He could lock in a 10 year deal assure himself $100mil+. I would guess that pretty much allows any level of life you care to live in Venezuela. If he 'leaves money on the table' in the end, I doubt he is going to shed many tears as he inks a FA deal over $300mil a decade from now. If you were good enough to get offered this much money before a single MLB at-bat. you would have to be a complete idiot to not accept.

Looking at it historically, the odds he becomes an incompetent loser not worthy of an MLB starting gig is pretty low. However, the odds he is a perennial All-Star isn't as likely as some make it out to be. There is a very large chance this contract ends up really unfortunate. There are a lot of Top 5 prospects over the years that have ended up pretty meh. Whatever the price, it will be worth shutting up the 'Mark A is cheap crowd' for the rest of the offseason.

We already control him 7 years after you toy with his service time. Even a 10 year deal is adding only 3 years. Honestly, the impact and potential people are throwing around is insanely overrated, in my opinion. You are basically overpaying him in arbitration hoping you can have a couple team options for market value…thus keeping around an elite player for a few extra years before the Yankees/Dodgers give him &300mil. Im guessing this is only coming about because payroll is likely to tank for a few years, so paying him 7 figures isn’t a huge deal while still having huge profits due to a lower payroll. Thus, in 3+ years his AVV is nice and low for his hopeful performance. If he strolled along in 2019, I don’t think the Brewers would be floating this possibility.

Not sure I am following your logic. Marquette is like the most experienced roster and about identical to the roster as last year. This is usually something you would say if the team was full of freshman/transfers. They are the polar opposite.

They will end up cutting payroll, but simply a reality of Burnes being traded, Woodruff gone, and possibly a trade of Williams/Adames. I don’t think they have a huge amount of big arby raises. Tellez and Winker are also not on the books. I could see them signing someone if they feel he is a good value add…but that is kinda rare in baseball FA. They would probably be wise to see how young guys do this year before investing money in FA. It’s hard to know the direction of the team. If some guys break out, they may have a quick turnaround…if prospects start flopping, a bigger rebuild may be upon us.

I’m sure plenty of teams were interested in making a trade. However, he would have needed to come to a contractual agreement with whatever team traded for him. Why would Woodruff do that if he knew he was going to get non tendered? Just refuse to talk and wait to be a free agent and talk to every team.

This is far from the only outcomes. Arby salaries aren’t guaranteed, so the Brewers can tender him a contract today with little risk and not do anything for months. However, reading between the lines, I’m guessing he isn’t going to be a Brewer in the future. If they wanted to give him a deal, it probably would have happened by now. If he gets tendered a contract the Brewers believe a team will trade for him. The team that trades for him can then agree to a deal that overrides what would have been a one year arby deal. They are not forced to rush and figure out a trade today. A trade would likely be long and complicated as it would need Woodruff to agree to what the acquiring team wants to give him. -
For as much as Wisconsin returns players and they are around 4-5 years. It is amazing how none of them ever seem to really progress their game.

Weeks' title is odd, but then again, the Blue Jays gave someone the title yesterday. Possibly, the Brewers are just sausage-blocking Counsell on multiple fronts. Murphy to manager and gave Weeks a title as good as he can get with the Cubs. Counsell will still need a bench coach, he may have liked someone like Weeks...who he played with. Brewers may have been concerned that not giving him the role behind Murphy he could have a chance to leave for Counsell.

I will get jumped by a Milwaukee-area lifer for this but: Think of Culver's, but it has 3 locations and has an old diner vibe. Butterburgers and custard. I went there maybe twice. The burger is pretty good, but the buns kinda suck imo. Reminds me of the cheapest Great Value brand type bun you can find in the grocery store. The custard is pretty good, but both times it came out half soupy already and by the time I was done I basically needed a straw. I know that is kinda a custard thing...but I prefer how Culver's is a bit more solid to start. That being said...it is a pretty good place to eat and I wish I had one by me. Culver's is better, but Kopp's would be a dream change of pace for a different butterburger.

The 5-county tax was bad at face value...even worse the way they left it as an open checkbook with no concrete end date. Rules saying it had to be updated to stay within the such and such standard of stadiums. Just terrible.

You do realize, more than about pretty much any sport, baseball depends largely on natural reaction time? No amount of training, steroids, and parent's money on travel ball is going to help that. His split between his BA and OBP was .098 for his career....that is insane. Certainly, he was infamous for swinging at sliders off the plate, but literally every player in history is infamous for struggling with some kind of pitch they chase. Braun was no different, Yelich is no different. Weeks is probably Top 5 in franchise history for plate discipline.

Week's did us a favor...he ended up a better manager of himself than RRR could do. Kinda like Mark Kotsay should have refused to play CF.

I always felt this was a little overblown. The denied request to play the OF always referred to was at like the start of May. Asking 10 year MLB veteran to experiment around the field in his FA year is just...a wild request. Especially considering he was always pretty bad at 2B despite playing there for over a decade. To think he was going to, midseason, be a passable 1B or OF was quite optimistic. Then he went elsewhere, played the OF....and was horrendous. So it kind of proved out to be a terrible idea in retrospect. Rickie Weeks actually said he would never play left field a good half decade before that anyway. Of course...pretending every player isn't 'me first' is a fair argument in itself.

Do you realize there is a whole dugout of coaches all focused on different things? Like Berry does baserunning. So if Carlos Gomez became manager the entire team wouldn't become idiots on the basepaths.

People were sick of retread managers and especially sick of ones that were retirement age. I recall people being pretty excited to get a no experience guy at the helm that didn't have adult kids. Of course, it helped it was hometown boy at the time too.

Half the comments about this manager search are strong opinions on guys with zero managing experience ever. Both positive and negative. I mean, sure, but I don't know what the criteria they are getting judged on at that point. To be quite honest...I don't know if Weeks would be good or absolutely terrible. Vogt? Same with him. I don't even know how you can really base any kind of assumption on these guys with no managerial past. David Ross seemed like a perfect players coach, but he doesn't seem like that great of a manager.
