  1. Interesting Yelich is essentially following the same path Ryan Braun did. Super cheap early extension and then a second extension that is notably under the length/amount he would get in free agency. Much like Braun’s it may not end up glamorous, but should avoid disastrous level that signing such a player in FA would. Next up I hope a Hiura deal can be made in the next few years.. Such a great player and very humble.
  2. Kinda figured that would happen with the extension being announced today.
  3. Today during practice I noticed Hader talking with a coach about 12-6 curveball grips. Maybe something, maybe just bored...I thought it was interesting though.
  4. He would have been short of the HOF...though somewhat close. Usually you have to get about 65 WAR to have a good chance....he sits at 48 WAR. He will still be looked back as one of the franchises prime players and I am sure will hang around for events for years to come. That being said, yah, the steroids made him iffy in the eyes of many fans. Yount was an all time great though, a sure fire HOF talent. Something Braun unfortunately came up short as with his on the field performance. Yelich seems primed for a HOF career and appears to be a great character...that’s worthy of taking the torch from Yount. Something I am sure the organization is thrilled to have the possibility at.
  5. First off the Brewers are not being cheap and saving money for this deal...that isn’t why the off-season was the way it was. We aren’t being cheap to make sure we can lock a guy in for his 30s at huge prices...that would be dumb. This contract is probably not far off the Braun contract in today’s dollars in MLB. Any time a team can lock up a star before FA, especially a small market like the Brewers, is a great day for baseball. This is a deal that every fan around baseball just loves. It is a great story. That being said Yelich isn’t much different from Braun when he signed his deal. Ryan Braun looked just as promising at the same age and was a healthy guy at the time. Even ignoring the moral/PR tanking his actual play became incredibly lackluster for the big extension. It wasn’t a disaster, but Braun certainly didn’t not become the next Yount in Brewers lore. I really hope Christian Yelich can stay healthy and keep up the incredible play. Having a HOF player to etch into the franchises history would be huge for the young fans. Yount is getting old, Yount faithful are getting old...this could be huge in keeping the next generation of fans interested in the Brewers for a long time. That’s the core of why this deal was done.
  6. I remember the old Raiders owner was such sucker for 40 yard times. I think Heyward-Bey had a crazy 40 yard time and they took him Top 10.
  7. I’m pretty sure there was a picture during the reveal or shortly after of one that said “Brewers”. I think it will be like the old navy and have a version for home/away. No announcement, but that is pretty much the only explanation.
  8. Someone will take a shot on Cephus. There is a lot of redzone potential in him in my opinion. Every QB would love a guy who can win jump balls. There have been some slow combine runners picked in the first half of the draft in recent years. That being said his 40 time is only faster than 4 players in the 21st century.
  9. some have guessed that the barrel man would show up next season replacing the 50th anniversary patches I would really doubt that happens. Most (if not all) only have one sleeve patch...minus anniversary patches etc. It seems too weird to remake the logo and then do nothing else. I wouldn't be shocked if there is a barrel man alternate eventually. That may be the actual plan. Seeing as the Brewers love endlessly toying with new alternates in years past it would make sense to wait a year or two (since there are already so many new uniforms) to reveal it.
  10. I like to think most teams are better than their December version. Pretty typical in basketball.
  11. People get all optimistic about Arcia for the same things over and over. Each time Arcia proves it was a fluke hot streak. He is facing minor league pitchers and/or pitchers just warming up for the year ahead. I hope he magically clicks too, but the things he is doing right now are things he has done in the past without much extended success. It should be taken with the smallest grain of salt in Spring Training.
  12. Pretty nice win for Wisconsin. I have felt their recent run was a bit aided by mostly playing not good teams and playing the decent ones at home. The later being meaningful due to the struggle Big Ten teams have had on the road. This is their first big road win in a solid month and a half. Probably a safe bet the can avoid the 8/9 line now. If they can avoid the 7 seed they certainly have some Sweet 16 potential in them with the right match ups. I think there is some potential dud 2 seeds this year too...so I am betting someone gets one generous Sweet 16 match up due to that. Sounds weird, but being a 6 seed instead of a 5 seed may be a better outcome.
  13. I would hope that even the worst run teams in MLB wouldn't actually care about ERA when evaluating a pitcher with this small track record. I mean maybe the Orioles would use it but all of the rest of the teams are smarter than that. It would be like saying Hiura wasn't very good last year because he didn't get enough RBI, it just isn't a stat that means anything useful. The point is Peralta just banked $16mil with zero sustained MLB success and a whole lot of struggle. Not a bad day. The deal made a lot of sense for both sides. I think Joseph comprehends things outside of ERA and what upside is...maybe not, but I think he does.
  14. I sure hope Bucks fans aren't already preparing excuses on how the NBA didn't want them to win etc. and Kobe this/that if they end up blowing it again.
  15. I am coming at this more from a cost-control perspective. If Woodruff continues his ascendancy into an elite arm, he could be looking at significant salary increases when he becomes arbitration-eligible. If the Brewers could extend him past the 2024 season (when he becomes a FA at 31) for an additional year or two, it may be worthwhile. I would agree if we were talking a positional player, but not a starter. Woodruff has already shown to much to really get a big discount from arby prices. Considering the enormous risk of him simply not continuing to be TOR level and the injury risk not sure we would have an easy time locking him up. Due to his age those FA years aren't crazy exciting either. Early/Mid-30s pitchers are always a big wild card. He may not be effective before those potential years even kick in...or we may pick them up and he simply isn't good anymore. Woodruff is simply one of those guys you should probably just wisely go year to year with. If he is great until FA tip your cap in a display of gratitude for his work. Peralta is essentially no risk even if he flames out...Woodruff would require some serious cash to be tossed around that is a bit more risky.
  16. Agreed on Woodruff. Depending on how risk-averse you are, do it with Burnes as well. In fact, give Burnes the same deal as Peralta. I have a tremendous amount of faith that these three will be leading the rotation for the next five seasons. They already control Woodruff past the age of 30, not much reason to add a ton of risk on him.
  17. If he merely becomes a solid reliever out of the bullpen, this is highway robbery. Not really, solid relievers don't make much in arbitration. As a solid reliever I don't think he is making $15mil in arby. If anything it would be a wash.
  18. No risk for us really...hopefully he starts putting it together. He hasn't exactly been woefully successful to this point in his career, but it won't be terribly hard for him to make the deal worth it.
  19. Look at his banner and his bio. Sounds like we could trade Ben Gamel for Mike Trout and he would cry. Also he has a pinned tweet...probably his only relevant tweet ever...that is really just a scam of a joke done way before he ever posted it. The idea is terrible, in my opinion...but I am not impressed by the BrewerFan hater either.
  20. I think I got my second semi realistic preference in the 6 bobbles. Which I picked cause I figured they would do 50th themed ones (they ended up the 5 decade bobbles and talking Uecker). I was pretty dang disappointed my Blue Reward ended up being the cup. I thought I would be able to get my preference in the polo (IT IS JUST A DANG POLO), but I guess not. Cup was probably my #5 or #6
  21. Avisail Garcia - 117 games played Ryan Braun - 124 games played (36 years old) Lorenzo Cain - 148 games played (34 years old) Not hard to figure out why they brought Ben Gamel back. Mind you the above is games played, not starts. A very healthy Braun (for his present standards) played 144 games, but started only 113 games and many of those he got pulled early from last year. Keon Broxton is terrible with the bat and Tyrone Taylor would likely be pretty terrible too. You don't trade away a valuable veteran depth piece that can swing that bat a bit for little to nothing. He makes a ton of sense for this team and when one of our ancient/injury prone OFers goes down we will be blessed Ben Gamel is around.
  22. My second year of fan choice...essentially picking the best games possible (singe seat). It gave me all Row 8 seats between 423-427. I can't really compare to last year though because I got my season tickets late in the winter so it was really sporadic on where I got placed. The system can be really strange and they are always holding tickets for various reasons so SHHs get screwed when their locations get decided so early.
  23. Hit "view all" in the top. Looks like they are all there for the season. *mindblown* You are correct
