  1. It really is simple. If you get hit by a car, most of the time you roll onto the hood and have leg injuries. If you get hit by an SUV, you don't roll onto the hood, you're much more likely to suffer internal injuries in your chest from the SUV grill hitting you or on your head from the pavement hitting you. I think you are missing the real problem. Pedestrians or drivers doing illegal things. You are blaming the vehicle for the death, you are chasing the wrong problem.
  2. I think any non-tendered player would consider it insulting to get an offer from the team that non-tendered him. They had every opportunity to bring him back, but only want to now at a discounted price?! I wouldn't take that deal, and I'd try to land on a division rival just to be spiteful. One of my great joys in life was walking away from a job after being expected to accept a pay cut. I can't imagine a competitive athlete would be any more forgiving than I was. Especially if said team is being cheap over a mil or two. I think player take that negatively. Some player maybe more than others. I STRESS they probably are taking the best deal they regardless of what team offers it, but if two similar deals show up...yah I think the players union and players want you to take the new teams deal. Then you aren't sending a message to teams they can be cheap and still get you back...thus leading to more and more arbitration cases being non tendered...which is not good for the players.
  3. It appears Keston Hiura has a burner account on the forum.
  4. It took you this long?
  5. I am guessing the players union and players in general probably frown upon a player signing with the team that non tendered them. There are starting to be more and more rumbling with players upset with the arbitration system that is suppose to finally pay them not really working. I believe non tenders have dramatically increased the last three years. Giving the vibe a team can start non tendering players and getting them for less is not exactly what players want. Not saying a player would take less to go elsewhere, but wouldn't be shocked if similar offers cause the departing player to give the old team the middle finger.
  6. Hiura is a one position pony that is a major hack in the field. It isn't exactly surprising they might consider trading him for something else...but per usual it would be incredibly difficult for such a trade to materialize. You would probably need a comparable young offensive star that may still be in the minors plus some pieces for the added risk we take on as Hiura's offense is a bit more obvious. I doubt he would trade him for an elite young pitcher just because of how fickle pitchers are and it seems Stearns isn't much of a guy to pour investments into pitching. I can't fathom such a trade in my mind that I would take. Hiura may be an elite bat right now...how do we do better than that in a trade that another team is willing to give up?
  7. While true, I can't imagine listening on everyone is a good way to do business, at least publicly. Are free agents going to want to join a club knowing they will always be shopped? This is pretty typical, all teams do this.
  8. Someone probably needs to fall on that knee a second time before the 1st quarter is done.
  9. I would give Walker some millions in a heartbeat. Give him some real generous incentives if he starts and/or stays healthy. Maybe add a team option for $12mil or so. Many wanted Nelson back, but I would gamble on Walker easily over Nelson.
  10. I hate the idea as well, but was just looking for high-priced guys that crappy teams may be looking to offload. I think they would have to be useful players. Trumbo is Trasho, but he doesn't matter because I am almost positive he is a FA. Seager sounded like a good idea until I saw all of his production was literally in the month of August. Belt doesn't interest me even slightly as he is not anywhere near good for a 1B. Sure, they could add to the deal to make it worth it for us, but who are they adding that is MLB ready just to unload salary. Those kind of deals are hard to make happen and really hard to make sense.
  11. I have been thinking of this as well. What players out there would be potential targets in trades where we would take on a large salary? I have seen Mookie Betts and Francisco Lindor being thrown around in rumors. Any others? Brandon Belt and Evan Longoria strike me as potential targets. Kyle Seager maybe. Mark Trumbo I guess. If we sign Mark Trumbo to start, my entire 20 pack is going in the trash.
  12. If they want to keep it close: Just do typical Wisconsin stuff and burn the clock...limit possessions. Don't turn it over. If they want to win: They need to play offense like they did against Minnesota. Which was by far the best offense I can recall all season. A lot sweeps and other goofy stuff that isn't just running between the tackles with an occasional slant route. Probably have 95% of the playbook be plays where Chase Young sacking the QB isn't even feasibly possible. Defensively they will need to pressure the QB and hope for some INTs...even though our DBs can't catch a ball. Maybe get those drive crippling 8 yard sacks. This is a risky game plan….either it works and you may pull off a Christmas miracle...or they get creamed beyond belief. They won't control possession time because we aren't going to run our way to victory and have a boatload of plays. We didn't do it the first time, no one else can do it, and we aren't doing it the second time.
  13. Villar probably going to have a great year in that huge ballpark. A lot of opportunity to get triples and stretch singles into doubles. Marlins also claimed Aguilar. Good luck to him in that ballpark.
  14. It isn't warranted yet, but it is fair to wonder how the money will be spent. I think most figured Grandal or Moustakas would return...or to a lesser extent Pomeranz. Now all three guys are gone plus we have cut payroll every other possible way we could to this point. Is Stearns really going to sign a Donaldson or Wheeler? If we don't and payroll is down how is the fanbase going to react to that? They just renamed the stadium which most of the fanbase was pretty upset about and claimed it would bring in more money. They just did a full rebranding which will be an huge increase in revenue the next few years. Then of course a new TV deal is either being done or about to be done which will really be a sizable bump in revenue (though to be fair the casual fans probably don't know this). Even worse what if the team doesn't seriously compete next year? Some of the reactions on here aren't a minority, they are very "casual fan" type takes that a large part of the Miller Park crowd feel the same way about. Like I said, personally all these moves independently I am okay with...assuming we are about to spend some cash. Even if we don't the only one I would really be upset with is Nelson just because if we had the payroll space he was worth rolling the dice on (and I am not a big Nelson fan after last years showing). I would say Shaw to a lesser extent, but I don't think he has wanted to be here since halfway through last season, fans almost hate him now, and he truly was terrible in 2019. I doubt Shaw would have rebounded here. I thought Guerra was decent last year, but hardly a huge loss and maybe we can bring him back cheaper if we want to.
  15. The negative title is a bit weird. Why not celebrate the tree farmers increase in demand instead of, “Millennials are the reason your Christmas tree costs $5 more.” Which, if you search google, some news outlets did do as it is a generic article reposted 5,000 times.
  16. It will be lower, someone mentioned they are at about $75mil now. Safe to say the Brewers aren’t spending $45mil by April. They could, but I doubt it. When you have a payroll believed to be pretty much max possible the only direction to go the next season is pretty much down. That being said I’d rather slash payroll by $15mil than make a dumb signing just to fill payroll space. Unless of course we are talking 1 year deals, then bombs away. Signing bad 2-3 year deals cause we have money is not wise. They can’t cut it too much or fans are going to start searching for pitchforks and if the teams struggles the march to Miller Park will start. Once you are competing and decide to have a big payroll increase you better keep as close to it as possible.
  17. Yup, not sure this was really directed at the Brewers.
  18. The line of suitors is reportedly long. To me, what's up in the air isn't the quality of the offers they'll get, it's whether the Brewers will pull the trigger. Having more spots to fill, increases the likelihood of pulling the trigger in my mind. The problem is finding an offer with some MLB talent or at least MLB ready talent. I just don’t see them taking on a load of prospects and subtracting from the MLB team that much. Real hard to find a deal when it needs near MLB talent.
  19. We shall see. I don't think anyone here is expecting anything less than a major haul if Hader is dealt. And with 4 years control a haul is exactly what they should get. Well, sure, I would agree. I don’t think that makes it more likely. Either some team backs up the dump truck or they don’t.
  20. Hopefully he can learn the rest of the field (at least 2B/3B) and be good at them. If he is the utility guy, cool...not like we could find someone to hit in that role anyway.
  21. Not really, Hader is not going to fill a bunch of roster spots. If you lose a wheel taking one of the other three wheels to replace the wheel that fell off still leaves you with three wheels. The only way to truly improve is through FA and trade that ADD talent on the MLB roster not subtract. Well if he's traded for 3 MLB pieces or 2 MLB pieces and a prospect, he will have filled 1-2 more roster spots than keeping him. What will you say then? Is their impact more than that of Hader’s, taking into consideration salary? Don’t care about quantity.

  23. Okay let’s calm down, we cannot afford Strasburg and Rendon. They wouldn’t even fit in next years payroll let alone the coming years when the arbitration numbers balloon. We could probably afford a Wheeler...Donaldson is a short enough deal you could probably fit that in our payroll (probably not both those guys though). They could definitely fit a $25mil ish contract in our payroll (especially when you consider they would defer some) if they REALLY loved a guy but probably not another deal north of $12mil or so after that.
  24. There has been a whole lot of cutting costs...so yah, I would expect them to go after someone. Not sure as big as you are hinting, but they should be signing some guys that are notable. Sure, a lot of these guys aren’t worth their salaries, but overpaying first a risk type guy by a couple million isn’t a bad deal all the time here and there. I don’t have a problem with any of the moves they have made, for now. It depends who they replace them with and how they spend that money. If they let these guys go, cut payroll by $20mil or more, and one of these guys rebounds big...well then it is kind of a questionable decision by the Brewers.
  25. Yes, those audio transmitter are nice, used one in college so I wasn’t “that person” with their TV on all the time.
