  1. If that historical data was available, I think it's possible that there'd be worse out there. And there is so much more to the importance of a loss than the point spread set by Las Vegas, which is what others and I am saying. To borrow a phrase from Ron Wolf, this loss is a fart in the wind that will be remembered about as unremarkably as the loss to BYU a couple of years from now. No one claimed it did. No one said it was the worst upset ever and started printing T-Shirts. I think it is quite fair for people to think it is from an upset standpoint. So you are arguing something that doesn't relate to what your opinion of "worst loss" is. I also already said many times ago that there are definitely numerous losses that are more emotional gut punches so to speak. I also already said this loss will be really irrelevant in that sense after they lose 2+ more games. Like....I literally already said all of that. I am not sure why you are telling me.
  2. The Brewers are doing it exactly as expected and like every other single team does it. Going off commerative balls teams have done: Anniversary (Brewers way): Padres 50th Reds 150th D Backs 20th Athletics 50th Giants 60th Marlins 25th Rockies 25th Dodgers 60th Mariners 40th Camden Yards 25th Cubs 100th Astros 50th Nationals 10th Petco Park 10th Wrigley 100th Camden Yards 20th Angels 50th Actual Year: Royals 50th Rays 20th (I think) I missed a few (and eventually stopped) because the ball didn't list the years and think this will suffice. This is essentially how baseball does it.
  3. Again, not really. That Cincinnati loss in 1999 was horrendous. #9 Wisconsin team, likely caught looking ahead to a two top-10 teams match up with Michigan the next week. Cincinnati was a MAC team coming off a 2-9 season in '98, and had lost to a D2 team the week before. Sure, this is a bad one, possibly the worst in some time. But to call it the 'worst ever' is just recency bias. Edit: And how quickly do we forget that just LAST SEASON #6 Wisconsin lost AT HOME to 22- point underdog BYU in a game where it wasn’t a last second FG that put BYU ahead, it was actually UW that was chasing from behind. 31 point underdogs right? Okay, find worse. BYU was 22 points. It isn’t recency bias. It’s using one of the only ways to quantify how big an upset was. It’s a pretty relevant claim that some people have made.
  4. Reading the article it sounds like little to no cities would actually lose a baseball team if they want to join the ‘Dream League’. There is loads of baseball being played outside of the MiLB system anyway...independent leagues, semi-pro stuff, college, summer league. All of which are probably way more family friendly and affordable compared to MiLB. I like the MLB plan, but it is a total nightmare when it comes to infrastructure and financials. I can’t even imagine trying to put these MASSIVE changes in places so soon. One big problem, they want to make the lower level team pay millions to be AAA. How are they paying all that money for no real monetary gain? It may attract some more attention having AAA players, but hardly enough to offset the insane valuation increase imposed on them. I doubt they make these smaller stadium teams all build new ones their region may not support. By support I mean financially (AAA stadiums cost a solid $50mil) or literal support via attendance etc. I think most of their concepts are beautiful, but to actually make them a reality understanding it effects many communities, people, and owners just seems wishful. This is an incredibly long overdue process that should have begun a long time ago.
  5. From a emotional standpoint there are certainly countless other losses that were worse. Losing to Illinois may have robbed them of a of a chance at the CFP, but I’m sure most knew that was a lofty dream anyway. Of course the hurtful nature of that loss will likely lessen after they lose two more games and it ends up a moot point to their CFP dreams. For starters the 2017 loss to OSU is miles worse just because they literally were playing for a spot in the CFP and lost a close game. From an upset standpoint...hard to find worse.
  6. The primetime games have been....not very prime. Huge games next week though: Rodgers vs. Maho...Moore Dolphins and their quest for perfec...imperfection.
  7. For the record I have never been a huge Chryst fan. So it’s not over one loss. And to be even more clear my opinions aren’t some emotional tear jerking overreaction. I’d have to care enough for that...and I really don’t. I lose more sleep over a May Brewers loss than that Illinois loss. I’m not really convinced Illinois is back to relevance. I don’t believe they have been recruiting better recently. So maybe that will change.
  8. Like any other year there will be surprises and there will be disappointments. That is the beauty of it all when it comes to baseball. We may sign neither of these guys and everyone will start crying that the season is over before it starts. Then Moustakas posts a .720 OPS and Grandal is a DL friendly .750 OPS catcher when he plays. Then after next year both go downhill fast. Suddenly everyone will be so happy we didn’t pay them $30mil+ to be using their bats as canes like Cain is already. A lot of right moves to be made and many bad ones to be made.
  9. The loss was embarrassing. They were 30+ favorites, on the fringe of the CFP field of four, came in undefeated, and some are labeling it the worst upset in Wisconsin history. I could go on. Illinois isn’t middling either, they are bottom of the barrel. Last or second to last every year since 2011. 2011 was their last ranked win (ASU #22). Their last Big Ten ranked win was Ohio State in 2007 (they were #1). I may have missed something, but that is what I found. Most of their wins the last decade seem to be those lousy warm up games before conference play. If that wasn’t embarrassing...nothing is embarrassing to you I’d guess. It is what it is...but let’s not try to sugar coat it.
  10. Define long balls. Coan has thrown his fair share long passes. I think it is lofty to expect Jack Coan to toss around 30+ yard bombs. Should they take that shot more? Maybe, but I think Chryst is real content on playing it safe and playing the chip away game. Which isn’t terrible when Jonathan Taylor is your back, but I could see the argument we don’t try to stretch the field more. Just doesn’t seem to be Chryst’s way of offense and his current personnel sure doesn’t help him change his ways.
  11. Sure, that is the beauty of a college coach. You can get into a situation where consistency will keep you a job forever. Someone can go to Wisconsin and have a forever job based on beating up the weak side of the Big 10. I think things would be a lot different if we played Ohio State and Penn State every single year. Then beating them would be a lot more essential. Instead it is and will always be easy to shrug off those losses. While Wisconsin may not be Ohio State good all the time I do think they should be beating them and Penn State more than they have recently.
  12. It is like your birthday. You celebrate being 50 when your 50th year alive is complete...not when it started. They aren't 50 years old until the 2020 season starts...then you celebrate 50 years. 2010 they celebrated 40.
  13. I don't typically get excited about beating a #5 team Week 1 when they ended up spending more weeks unranked that season and were never higher than #18 after that game. I am thinking LSU just wasn't elite. Of course I also mentioned not including a Michigan State game where they were #8 in the nation...but unless you are convinced we hurt their feelings so bad they only one three games that year (Furman, Notre Dame, and then only Rutgers after we played them)...again, they weren't actually good. I will definitely go in hindsight and mention how a team was overrated when we played them. Neither of those occasions did we beat a Top 10 team. I already said I care nothing about weighing the meaningfulness of any bowl game period...win or loss. The results are just too random for me to take them seriously. I just used that game as an example of why it can be. Again, if you want to consider beating Miami a true elite matchup win have at it...then Chryst has one. Chryst is nowhere near being fired, but I don't think he is that good of a coach. Average would be a good word for him. Hopefully he improves over the years. While I much prefer the way he has ran the offense this year vs. years past it still seems to leave a ton to be desired. For as many years as he has been here I would have expected the offense to be better than it has been.
  14. No, I simply didn't include games that weren't elite-level games...because that is what I was after. The only debatable game I left out was the Orange Bowl...but as I said I don't like the randomness that comes with those games. You had a Miami team that got upset by Pitt as a #2 team and then playing for a chance to get into the playoff got absolutely throttled by Clemson. At that point it is really easy to question the fight in any given team/player. So maybe Chryst has one statement win to his resume...maybe not. Depends on your view when it comes to bowl games.
  15. I didn't include bowl games because, personally, I think the results can be real fluky and not meaningful. I am sure the college cares a bunch for money reasons...but I don't. I didn't include LSU because we all know Lambeau was a home game. Iowa? Nebraska? Good wins, but hardly a major accomplishment. We go into nearly every one of those games favored to win.
  16. So what would it take to get Paul Chryst fired? Is that a near impossible thing as long as the Badgers are half relevant? Look, I am not saying the guy is bad, but he has yet to have an impressive road/neutral win. Given he doesn't get many shots on the weak side of the Big 10, but its becoming a trend. 2018: 0-2 2017: 0-1 2016: 0-2 (They beat #8 Michigan State on the road...but lets be honest, they weren't actually good) 2015: 0-1 Is it impossible to get a coach that is going to be a little more unique? Chryst is like the ultimate game manager. If he were playing Madden he would hit 'suggested play' every single time. Seems destined to be a guy to always lead them to a nice 3 loss record, have some nice wins at home, but never get the big win(s) needed to be something more.
  17. When they opened their new stadium...they unveiled in mid-November 2011. However, I am sure they announced new uniforms and logo long before then. When they tweaked things for this year they also unveiled mid-November, but it wasn't a big miraculous change.
  18. While everyone assumes health and effectiveness, it is important to have viable depth throughout the year. Some players in the minors now might not be an option until later in the season, but Deolis could be an option (if healthy & effective) at the start of the season if someone like Faria/ Black/ etc is not. These days it is almost a promise someone will be injured to start the year.
  19. As you would expect it won't be until after the World Series, but I would expect something by mid November. I think in the past many teams will do a soft-launch showing a new logo plus color scheme and then announce a date to unveil new uniforms. Though I am not convinced there will be new uniforms until they say it. The D Backs did it the way I described above...early November logo/color scheme, uniforms at start of December. They are really the only team to rebrand recently in such a manner as we would. Really hasn't been much full rebrands in baseball, usually just minor tweaks.
  20. I like the retro colors and I like the pinstripes. So I guess my preference. Maybe it is just me, but I’m not really a fan of the new look retro color scheme they did. I don’t hate it, but meh, it just seems bland/boring. I try to tell myself they won’t go with that color scheme, but that’s my assumption. It just seems really dumb to casually make it the primary logo/color scheme and then decide to ‘rebrand’ with it that way. Seems like a missed opportunity to hype the new look BiG. Honestly I’m just getting real sick of the navy jerseys. The only break we get is the home white (used less and less by the day) and the gray roads (can it get more boring than gray?).
  21. I am sorry, but that 90s logo is the worst I have ever seen. I am sure there are worse...but that thing is a disaster. I didn’t mind that gold alternate they had a few years back...but blue pinstripes (any for that matter), no thank you.
  22. It is amazing the NFL is allowing challenges of PIs...which is a MASSIVE judgement call. Remember the years of “I don’t know what a catch is.” Why would they want that kind of issue again? They have basically resurrected that problem in a different way allowing these challenges. Now it is getting scrutinized more than ever cause we nitpick them on video endlessly. Even garbage PIs before were hardly an issue, you got one video of it and life moved on. Same with holding calls etc....hardly nit picked because there is never a big deal made of them.
  23. To be fair hard to shred a defense when your own defense is on the field 70% of the time.
  24. Defense playing like total trash.
  25. That Raiders rookie just did the championship belt move. Buddy you are like half a decade late on that being cool when sacking Rodgers.
