  1. Skimming his explanation I can't say he was really wrong. We paid more than market rate for some guys than what comparable contracts would say. Both are having career years, which is fantastic. Who is he to decide what "market value" is? I can throw assumptions out too. Are these guys having career years, or were they identified as players who weren't being used right in their current schemes, and could break out? And we have no clue who else was throwing contract offers at them. The Packers ID'd who they wanted, and were aggressive in making sure they got them. You can, he provided information to back his up though. He gave an opinion given the information at the time. He wasn't trying to predict the future. I am just saying it wasn't a terrible take, at least on the Packers players. Overall I bet it is a pretty bad article just because one man decided to do quick summaries of dozens of transactional moves...quality usually isn't great in those type of articles.

  3. I am not sure you understand the definition of a 'hot take' or what a person's 'grill' is. It isn't a hot take nor was his hand in his grill. But much like I can, you can have your opinion.
  4. Since 2000, OSU has won about 83% of their games overall but only about 73% against UW. Since 2000, PSU has won about 65% of their games overall but only about 61% against UW. While they, or at least OSU, will definitely be in the way of UW making the playoffs, UW has played better than average against them since 2000. Those percentages seem awfully close considering those teams probably have 3 cupcakes out of the conference per year and then the cupcakes of the BIG Ten. I would be much more interested in the percentages at least taking out the cupcake non conference games...preferably taking out Big Ten cupcakes too (Illinois/Rutgers for the most part). On a different note, I often wonder what the best and most realistic case for the Badgers is. I would imagine it would be losing to Ohio State on the road, Penn State beating Ohio State for their only loss, and then us getting to face Penn State in a battle of one loss teams. Worst case is probably beating Ohio State and then having to face Ohio State in Indianapolis...beating Ohio State twice in a year is probably a pipe dream. I won't cheer for them to lose obviously, but it is really hard to imagine beating them twice.
  5. After openly torching Arcia's defense and SS in general it isn't surprising Subero got axed. He can't even manage 1st base coaching and infield coaching on a winning ballclub without getting fired...it would indeed be a little shocking if he actually got serious interest in a managerial position.
  6. It is like no one has ever watched an NFL game before. Crap calls are just the norm....crap rules are the norm...it is a crap product. People can screenshot the plays all they want, but I don't really care to see the Lions player tickling his neck beard. They were petty calls that the offensive lineman flopped for. Props to the Packers on doing their homework to make the crappy refs make dumb calls. By rule/textbook definition I think all three of the instances were flags (hands to face, hands to face, and helmet to helmet)...but all were petty flags that really just don't need to effect the game. Packers fans will brush these off like nothing, but if it was the other way around people would be crying endlessly about them. Personally I just don't care because this is typical these days. It really doesn't shock me. Watch the comical disaster of the PI challenge in every game, these things shouldn't shock anyone at this point. Did the refs hand us the game, I mean, about as close as you can get. Lions were about to get the ball back with plenty of time to get a field goal to win it. Maybe they do, maybe they don't...that play alone though swung the odds dramatically essentially ending the game.
  7. They can try, it that would seem foolish. In arbitration he’ll get $4-5 million in 2020, 6-8 million in 2021, 12-15 million in 2022. Are we offering 3 years $22milion? That would be low end He gets four years of arbitration. Jeremy Jeffress sucking rocks cost the Brewers a whole lot of future money. Forcing Hader into the full time closer role was a gift to him in arbitration. Last I checked the arbitration process for relievers still goes crazy for saves. Betances got $3mil his first time through arbitration because he didn't have much saves in his career. Well...we just gave Hader nearly 40 saves last year.
  8. Looking a whole lot like Nationals in 4 these days.
  9. Regarding the flop to avoid the TD: For the Lions wouldn’t it have been wise to chase him and either shove him into the end zone or heck even pick him up and take him there? They put in no effort period when they should have made an effort to make him score by force. Just thought that was interesting because Williams got so close to the goal line before falling.
  10. Can’t really run it all the way down when Detroit has all three timeouts.
  11. Maybe someone else should get the punt returns.
  12. If anything it shouldn’t even be a flag. He was going for the ball. Not like he was trying to plow over Allison.
  13. Our receivers are complete trash after Adams. Allison literally killed that drive. Thanks a lot man. It’s a joke they went with this group to start the season. MVS with Rodgers throwing to him looks like he MAYBE should be a #3 receiver.
  14. There are other smart teams as well. I would be thrilled if we had the success the Dodgers have had recently. They are also incredibly setup for years as well. Gotta be honest number of championships means nothing when it comes to how a franchise is ran. The postseason is a total fluke. It’s really hard to see how anyone could run the Dodgers better. I think the fact they go into every season with a strong farm and are the favorites to win the NL every year is more reflective of how they are ran. People always seem to think someone who runs a small market well could take a large market and make it the greatest thing to ever walk the earth. Honestly I don’t think that is the case. If it was that easy the Dodgers would come take Stearns for a small sliver of their overall payroll. I think it takes a completely different mindset and set of skills to run a large market.
  15. 5 out of their last 6 meetings with OSU have actually been decided by a touchdown or less. Found that slightly surprising since they pretty own us. I do agree some may end up closer than they really are. For anyone wondering they last beat OSU in 2010 and haven’t won at OSU since 2004. I keep going back and forth on our chances in that game or being able to win the Championship game if we get there (and play them). It’s important to note OSU could easily lose to Penn State and not even represent their side in the Championship game.
  16. Such a trade depends on three highly variable things: 1) Your belief in the sustainability of Hader. 2) Lux future 3) Brewers win now urgency. The variance in answers you would get on this would be incredible. Some will point out Lux is a prospect, some will say bullpen arms never last, and some will say the Brewers are a small market and will never consistently repeat. The main problem I would find is Lux may take years to be great (Moncada for example didn’t mash right away). The Brewers best opportunity to win may be the next few years where Hader may be an obvious better choice. Of course if you think Lux will start mashing with an incredible .850 OPS sometime soon...obviously that changes things. At the same time Lux is not a MLB quality SS at this point. Pairing him and Hiura up the middle could be comically bad. I think we could find better targets if we wanted to trade Hader. At least in the fantasyland we are in regarding this thread. Lux really isn’t a great fit when we already have a 2B. Trying to put him at SS just isn’t a great idea, our pitchers would likely agree.
  17. I didn’t say it was...just as far as Cephus’ NFL prospects go it is pretty bad. I really don’t care how they win personally...just that they win. Doesn’t bother me their passing game historically isn’t much of a difference maker. I also didn’t say it was “everything”. Just pointing out staying longer for stats really isn’t going to be much of a motivator...can’t really prove much in that aspect. Hence why I mentioned the NFL combine...that’s where Cephus will make a living.
  18. I have watched three games today...I will be counting yellow flags laying in bed tonight. It makes these game almost unbearable to watch when you aren’t a fan of either team. The endless ref conversations on them doesn’t help...especially when they pick them up half the time.
  19. Yes, the passing game is not that good. Cephus has no more than 3 catches in a game or more than 39 yards in any game not against Central Michigan. Jack Coan is doing what he needs to do. Complete short passes when needed and not make mistakes. I think he has a TD and INT against competent teams so far (3 games). With a great defense and a top flight RB that’s all he really needs to be. That’s just the reality at Wisconsin. They don’t really throw the ball, it’s not their identity. It will be interesting to see if that changes with Taylor leaving and a possible Mertz insertion in 2020 or 2021. Regardless, for an NFL hopeful in Cephus he really isn’t going to get stats to open the eyes of scouts.
  20. That value site, while useful, is not perfect and has many things that don’t make sense. That Braun value is a joke. It also seems to be valuing Lux as like the #1 prospect in the game. I like him a ton, but not sure he really is a future mega star...especially when most feel he is destined for 2B. While many teams may feel he is one of the best young guys coming into the game, many probably feel less bullish.
  21. You probably forgot the Brewers wouldn’t do it.
  22. I think Cephus would get drafted. His draft status may heavily depend on a combine showing though. With our sad passing game he will never have the stats. I think he should and would come back if he is advised he won’t get drafted. Why get yourself into the practice squad life? Someone said this year is his “senior year”...no not in any form of the word. He didn’t go to school or even be apart of the team period last year. He is a true junior in my mind and won’t finish a degree this year. Will the whole sexual assault thing effect him? Yah, these days teams are nervous of people even getting themselves in a position to have that problem. You are under a microscope as an athlete/pro. It isn’t right, but sometimes your profession means people may try to take advantage of that status. Look no further than Antonio Brown. I do think another year removed from that would help him a ton depending on the team/people evaluating him.
  23. Ryan Braun isn’t going anywhere. At this point he would likely block any trade to any team. With two kids unless we bring him back he likely retires after the year...just a guess. We are competing here, I don’t think the Dodgers are that appealing to him. In FA he probably won’t be appealing to either LA team. Now if we just proceed into fantasyland (it’s boring this time of year, I will play along now)...no, I would not do it. Hader is worth more than Lux. Also in my opinion Braun is not significant money anymore because it isn’t long term. We have nothing tied to him after this year (outside of the deferred money). Hader may be expensive in the coming years, but he is welllll worth it.
  24. There was a lot of contact to start, but that was within 5 yards. Once he actually held him etc. they believed the ball was thrown. I’m not sure really...but the way they explained their decision was correct. If the ball is already thrown what you do across the field is irrelevant. Probably good they don’t call that kind of stuff. If you are anywhere in the vicinity of the play then you are going to get flagged.
  25. It was a great pickup of the flag. Once the ball is in the air the only thing that can be called is pass interference. Being away from the play they obviously aren’t going to call a pass interference on him because he didn’t interfere with the pass.
