  1. If we win I’d guess the story line will be more about how much the Cowboys are “pretenders” than it is about us being “contenders”.
  2. Travis Shaw isn't an idiot. He knows why he was playing in AAA, and that it was 100% his doing. Where did I say that? Didn’t say that.
  3. travis shaw has an option remaining. it's very likely that the brewers will sign him to a split contract with a more generous minor league salary than that of similar age players. Isn't there some sort of wording in the collective bargaining that he can't make less than his previous year salary so if he is on the 40 man he would still be making $5 million a year even if he was optioned? 20% paycut rule
  4. Pretty generous to say we have backup plans at either SS or 3B. Like it or not Arcia, Shaw, and Spangenberg are all backup plans. You may not like them, but they are possibilities and wouldn't kill a team to have an offensive black hole in 1 spot in the order. Spangenberg is not a back up plan. Arcia and Shaw are....and I have said many times there will be a black hole in the line. Probably consisting of Arcia or Pina. Though I have adamantly said they should not go into the year with two of them (not including the pitcher). My bold prediction would be Pina starting and being the blackhole at C. My preference would probably be Arcia being the black hole with Moustakas plus a catcher covering the other two spots.
  5. You can question whether or not he was upset...which he was and I am sure unhappy. Who wouldn't? You think he just happily sat on the AAA bus all year? I would expect him to. I would also 100% expect him to bolt instead of staying here to get sporadic playing time. Again, I wouldn't blame him and I would expect him to. Why would he stay if we sign Moustakas? That makes zero sense on his end. He could find a way more promising situation to be in I am sure. Gotta be a bad team willing to roll the dice on a guy who was one of the better 3B for two years of the last three. The Brewers may not have it in the budget or time to figure out if he can rebound. Why would he like being a part time player in September? This is just common sense. I am sorry, but I am sure he wanted to be released and go elsewhere everyday to start. Why would he want to sit in the minors behind an All Star 3B? I doubt he was literally demanding to be released or even approached the Brewers...but why would he want to stay in a situation with no opportunity?
  6. Rumor had it Shaw was already unhappy with us and wanted to be released instead of rotting away his year in the minors. Not to mention he didn't seem to really enjoy the part time role even in September. If he has a chance to leave he is going.
  7. Even if he has a slight HR problem, so what. Are we really upset he isn't perfect in every form of the game? Who is? Not very many.
  8. Looking at some catchers that saw a notable decline at 30/31 age area that were bigtime bats: Lucroy - Complete collapse after age 30 season Molina - Never hit over an .800 OPS after his age 30 season McCann - Has held it together for the most part, hasn't been much of a serious offensive threat after his age 29 season Posey - Collapsed after his age 30 season Pudge - Big collapse after his age 32 season Miguel Montero - Toast at 30 offensively Pudge was literally the only guy I could find that didn't fall off some sort of cliff at about 30-31....and he is arguably one of the best at the position ever. Not all these guys fell off the map, many had an OPS float around .735 or so...not terrible. However, not worth spending tens of million on if it happens. Elite catchers don't have good histories in their 30s. I find it interesting most people on the board wanted nothing to do with extending Jonathan Lucroy, but Yasmani Grandal is a huge want. Quite a change of heart by the people of the board (not saying it is the same people).
  9. You know how many players are having a 2019 outlier year? Juiced ball has been nuts for some. Eric Sogard had 13 homers this year despite having no more than 3 in a season before. I am also really confused on how you are calling it a surge when his 2017 SLG was higher.
  10. After we square away catcher and 3B it is tough to know what we can or cannot do. Unless you are Mr.92 and know the payroll numbers to heart. If the above (or similar) happened I would like to resign Pomeranz and get some kind of veteran starter. I would guess that is about maxing out the pre season payroll. I am not too concerned about Arcia if we get a more competent offensive catcher. If we go with Pina as the starter then I would hope they find a better offensive SS.
  11. So you come to conclusions based on a single stat and one game. That's a pretty weak argument.
  12. One of most essential pieces is a one inning pitcher? Yelich is essential, Hader is a luxury. I see that kind of thinking everyday when i drive down the road and see a 50 thousand dollar truck parked in front of a 20 thousand dollar trailer! Well since Hader isn't a one inning pitcher......
  13. First taste of sustained success this decade and here we are wanting to trade of our best players that is one of the most essential pieces if we want to win it all.
  14. Todd Frazier? He was basically average this year. But he might dent the bank. Otherwise yeah, I’m not sure...[sarcasm]maybe Braun?[/sarcasm] That is where it gets dicey for me. If you are going to be stuck with an .850 OPS guy and a black hole...just sign the cheaper/less risky .850 OPS guy. Grandal - $17mil .848 OPS Frazier - $7mil .772 OPS Pina - $2mil $26million Moustakas $12mil .845 OPS Travis d'Arnaud/Jason Castro C - $7mil .782/.767 OPS Pina - $2mil $21million Similar production, less money, less commitment, Pina isn't the starter, and less risky. If you roll with Pina as the starter it would be nearly $10mil cheaper to just go with Moustakas. We could also go after Robinson Chirinos, but I fear he will get enough interest the cost/commitment may just make it too risky. I like the catchers market this year, quite a few solid offensive guys after Grandal looking at it. Grandal is king, but I think the value is definitely elsewhere.
  15. Everyone talks about having Lyles ready sooner, but when were you going to put him in? To face Rendon....yah I mean, I guess you could. I think the Brewers/Hader did the right thing and pitched around Rendon. I don't think it was entirely intentionally, but I think they were hoping he would chase the fastball. Lyles likely would have done the same and had the same result. So then you move onto Soto...it makes no sense to put in Lyles to face Soto. It just doesn't. Hader at his worst is a better option than Lyles against Soto. If Grisham doesn't blow it in the OF I think that is when we would have seen Lyles. The only earlier chance to go to Lyles was against Zimmerman, but in the moment I don't see any manager making that move. For all the talk about him being so terrible he struck out 2/3 of the first batters, the other arguably got bailed out for the HBP, and then the fourth batter had a flying saucer broken bat single. Even Soto didn't hit it hard. I think that speaks volumes about how good Hader is. Even at his god-awful worst no one was hitting him all that hard.
  16. So if one is adamant to sign Grandal and makes the assumption he and Moustakas both won’t return together: Who on earth are you inserting at 3B that is affordable and isn’t breaking the bank...and probably not even close to denting the bank?
  17. Pomeranz is going to get paid. This isn’t his first time doing great in a relief role. He has done it for over 100 innings of sub 3 ERA ball and good supporting stats.
  18. What were the warning signs before? The single homer he gave up between August 13th and September 28th? The 2 earned runs he gave up the month prior to that one pitch? The 12/13 scoreless outings prior to the Colorado game? We were suppose to treat Josh Hader like AAA fodder that never saw a high leverage situation solely based on one pitch?
  19. All this talk about Pina as a back up I would expect his numbers to actually be dramatically different. Except his OPS+ was a point higher last year...and really his numbers are hardly different. If he actually broke down I am not sure why he had 3 of his best months in the last 4 months of the year. His playing time was pretty consistent all year too. I am simply not buying it. I doubt he is any different than any other catcher getting 'worn down' so it seems like a real weird thing to cling to. He is like many other catchers. They have ups and downs and aren't that good so bad months happen. Grandal is great, but I just don't see it being a good investment if the bidding is competitive. I just don't see him providing value that makes him worthy of $15mil or more than Pina/platoonmate. Especially when you consider the risk. Also Grandal as a DH/1B...why would that ever happen? Pay him $15mil+ a year to be average at best for his position? Sounds terrible.
  20. I think there is a difference between accepting they may never win it all and literally knowing they never will.
  21. No, I would not. I would find a new team. If you literally told me we would NEVER win the World Series...yah, can't say it would be fun to watch then.
  22. Pretty generous to say we have backup plans at either SS or 3B.
  23. What does that even mean? Obviously you didn't see him in his postgame interview
  24. They are either off the bandwagon until the 2020 season draws closer or they are currently banned.
  25. I remember when PETA made a profile filter on Facebook that said "Shoot Selfies, Not Animals" and then every person proceeded to shoot selfies along with their deer etc. That is my all time favorite PETA related thing. To think people donate money for someone to get paid to do these things. Exacty why people don't donate to large causes like that. Money is just wasted.
