This is madness, which I guess makes your name quite fitting. This just isn't true. They need a VERY GOOD DEAL just because the last few trade between us have not gone their way? What deals have there even been? Villar? Davies? K-ROD? Which one was even a big loss to them....Davies? Hardly much robbery going on. "Hey man, I think this trade of Mancini to the Brewers is a good deal." GM: "Just a good deal? Nope, we need a very good deal because they won the last trade." Biggest myth ever, GMs don't not make trades that they think are good because some past trade(s) (some of which with totally different front offices) didn't go there way. If they think it is a good trade and their team views it as good enough for Mancini they are going to take it. Not demand extra because the last trade didn't work out. I don't want Mancini though. Too expensive and unless his breakout is legit he isn't even good...at least for us as he will play 1B. Last two years .826/.715 respectively for OPS. Also I don't know why, but his defense is rated as atrocious...so take that for what it is worth. He is a better gamble for a team in need of an OFer (if he can actually play well out there) because then a .800ish OPS isn't terrible if he regresses. If we get him and he regresses he is no better than our current guys. I don't think we need an unproven 1B with possibly bad defense, too risky when we need known production if we are going to trade for it...especially if expensive.

Maris and Mantle. 115 home runs in 1961.

No...just no way. I would expect the actual number in the 90-95 range. -
I was more annoyed by the coach trying to make it a gender issue pondering if a 10-0 win in the men’s cup would elicit the same reaction. The fact they celebrated every goal endlessly, I think that is classless more than anything. Clearly your opponent is quite inferior and you are going to win. It’s like celebrating over beating a bunch of children. Regardless it is the opening game, I don’t exactly fault them for getting in a grove etc...did they just bust out starters the entire time? I’d think at some point 75% through the game you would protect your players and let the secondary players get some action. If the back ups start pouring it on, oh well. If they played the starters the entire time I guess that could be somewhat lame, but if the number of goals later on in the tourney matters then sorry.

Travis Shaw (since reinstated): .983 OPS Eric Thames (last 2 weeks): 1.107 Jesus Aguilar (last two weeks): .642 Shaw has started 5 games so far since coming back (about 8 days). Jesus Aguilar has 7 starts....in the last month ( 18 appearances and 7 were starts). Gotta think Aguilar's days are numbered. They just are not not giving him an opportunity at this point to even straighten things out.

Moving your feet and getting into position isnt skill? Hardly...that is really stretching it to call that a "skill".
-
Okay come on now....skill to take a charge... That is like saying it takes skill to get hit by a pitch.

2018 Dodgers lost to Sale/Price 2017 Dodgers lost to a loaded Astros staff 2016 Indians lost to a loaded Cubs staff 2015 we already spoke of 2014 Royals lost to a loaded Giants staff 2013 Cardinals lost to a pretty loaded Red Sox staff 2012 Tigers lost to pretty darn good Giants staff 2011 Tigers lost to pretty elite Cardinals staff Actually...I feel most of the time two teams with pretty darn good starters square off. Usually two guys who are arguably aces. Only one loaded staff can win and only two can make the World Series. Not saying it can't be done, but history says not having an ace, heck even two, is not a good start to WS dreams.

I think there are two types of charges in basketball. A) Guy driving to the basket etc. and B) Guy trying to draw a charge anywhere on the court. Charge under or by the basket is legit defense in my opinion. Doing it on the arc or mid-court...that's just lame to me. Brad Davidson....wow, glad that guy isn't on my team. The way he flops, goes for ridiculous charge attempted, and acts like a semi hit him when he gets bumped is beyond excessive. I hate watching flop/charge artists.
-
Yah, I am not saying either of those guys can't be that....a bit early to say that. Woodruff had an incredible May, but while having nice secondary numbers he has given up lots of runs in April/June. He is not dependable thus not an ace. I think he can and will get there eventually. Right now he just isn't consistently shutting down teams and showing up. Davies isn't and won't be. His ERA is really low right now, cool story, it will balloon soon enough. His stats this year are hardly better than any other year of his career which has seen him just a touch below a 4 ERA 2/3 times. He can be a real solid mid rotation guy...but upper rotation, not even close honestly. If Chase Anderson was doomed for major regression, then Davies is about to be shot into another galaxy.

I find cruise almost impossible to use because of what you just stated. People are just so clueless as to what is going on around them. It is a constant headache. Adaptive cruise control is one of the greatest inventions ever. In other car related news wow do I hate the Chicago suburbs. What a dump of a place to live. I wonder how much you must hate your life to deal with that traffic everyday. I go to my hotel and then wait for almost 7pm to roll around before I dare go to a store or get food. Absolute trash motorists too. I frequented/lived in the NW area for 3-4 years at times and that was enough for me. Going back a few weeks recently has really reminded me what a pile of crud the area and people are.

Do we even need one is the best question I think. If we could get 4-5 guys putting up similar results and numbers to what Woodruff and Davies have done, that would be pretty great. Now if by "ace" you mean a guy with the confidence to take the ball in Game 7 of the NLCS and give you a chance to win ... I don't know. I'd like to think so. History would tell you, yes....yes we do. Look it up, past World Series winners have aces. It hasn't happened since 2005 that a team really had no one considered an ace...that is pretty bad and a long time ago. The 2015 Royals might have a weak case as one of those teams, but they had Cueto. He may have pitched poorly at times, but when it came to the World Series he threw a gem in Game 2 for the win. You pretty much have to hope and be an exception like the 2015 Royals...who had an absolutely ridiculous pen. One of which, sorry, we aren't even close to having. Wade Davis had a sub 1 ERA....almost impossible to fathom.
-
This really isn't true. He was pretty darn good three of the last four years. Which really is no good thing for the Padres because, in my opinion, he has been a surprise bust this year. I didn't think .950 OPS Machado was going to be a thing...but wow, sub .800? I don't think anyone expected that. Teams really sell out for these young FAs....and it has not been going too good.

People harp on age way too much. 24 for one player does not equal 24 for another. Why do you think Latin players make it to the MLB level so fast? They get to sign contracts at 16 and have world class coaches and facilities. Or another point based on what you're saying. Nelson Cruz didn't learn plate discipline and pitch recognition until his mid-20s and had most MLB teams passing on him. The growth curve for every player is different. I remember really liking Haniger in the minors (based on stats and adjustments, not scouting reports) and viewed him as a legit prospect, while I thought of Parra as a weak hitting defensive OF. In the end, the trade turned out good, especially considering we landed Davies. Haniger took a lot of time to develop. There's this myth out there that guys need to be in the majors by 22-23. Oh sure, I totally agree. People forget Corey Ray was a pretty raw college bat...not the type to fly through the system. Of course he may never be good...but sometimes guys get compared to their fellow draftmates or people their age way too much. While at the same time people can really lose track of high school draft picks too because they are at the bottom of the totem pole and really have it hard. You have college bats who have more elite baseball experience than you and also more physically mature...and also the Latin players who have more experience when they come stateside and/or are 18/19. I always liked Trent Clark and his ability to take walks at a pretty incredible clip. Anyone who has seen him also knows that he is a pretty buff dude and has always had so power to give. Now I recall his defense being a little bit to be desired, but I also haven't watched him play in person for quite a few years and it is hard to gauge OF defense on a video feed.

HA. Now that is a funny joke. The cost for Clevinger would be even higher. If you are going for pie in the sky ideas, why not try for Lindor? [sarcasm]It would only cost Yelich, Hader, Hiura & Turang[/sarcasm]... In other words its not happening... Didn't think I needed to put that in blue. Agreed, I knew it was a joke when I saw Hiura listed.

People harp on age way too much. 24 for one player does not equal 24 for another. MiLB Ball>College Ball Why do you think Latin players make it to the MLB level so fast? They get to sign contracts at 16 and have world class coaches and facilities. The average college guy is probably getting a stint at A-Ball or A+ if aggressive. Mind you half that season is gone before even signing. Arcia was in AAA when his class was graduating college, Wily Peralta was getting a taste of AA, Freddy Peralta was dominating AA, and Hernan Perez already had an MLB at-bat. The listed players aren't even that good...they weren't mega talents. These guys are in better baseball experiences before 18 than most college players have. Same goes for the 18 year olds skipping college, better baseball level in the MiLB. 23 year old Corey Ray is probably pretty comparable to 22 year old Trent Grisham.

1B, Shaw/Hiura, Peralta/Nelson etc....I think they have a lot of tough decisions and I think they want another Peralta start after he pitched a good one vs. giving it to the guy who was pretty bad. Not a good sign for Nelson that he was the guy bumped farther into the schedule. Tells you Peralta is in the lead to keep that spot over Nelson unless Nelson can show something while Peralta doesn't. I wouldn't calling it setting him up to fail. He doesn't exactly deserve to be given every chance to succeed...he just doesn't. Nelson is basically an old intriguing prospect now...he isn't the old Nelson, he is a new man. One that is a FA after next year and not exactly cheap (though not expensive). Peralta is a young kid with an intriguing arm...far more interesting and what the Brewers would prefer to succeed. It is a really bad situation for Nelson to come back to. The Brewers can't just let him start every 5 day whether the results are good or not. Nelson really needs to be on a garbage team that can give him 30 starts of 5.50 ERA ball and not blink an eye. But thus he isn't and his opportunity may not be the greatest. We will see how much of a leash Nelson gets and how they go about him starting.

2019 Standings and Playoff Races Discussion
MrTPlush replied to Eye Black's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Hard to call 35 year old Braun an underachiever...I mean his overall stat are comparable to last year and at this point anything can decline and not be like it once was. Agreed on Chatwood. 5.0 BB/9 is horrid and not very good. Someone can take any previous "wild" Brewer and they will probably be better than that. It is actually the second worst mark for a season in his career (so far). He limits hits a little bit, but it doesn't make up for a not so good K/9, HR/9, or the walks galore. That being said he has gotten results doing it before (2016). Even if he puts up a 4.69 ERA like 2017 that isn't terrible if he is replacing a back end guy short term...but long term or if he replaces one of their better guys...yikes. I think mostly everyone was hoping for Braun to be better than last year. He under achieved last year too. Now this may be the hitter he is now but I still think is fair to say it is a disappointment. I think anything under an .800 OPS was going to be a disappointment for Braun. A big issue has been strike outs. He is striking out quite a bit more this year. If he can get that under control and start to hit lhp he will be fine. He is just a disappointment now Is he still hitting the ball hard like all the years past he has been a disappointment or does his mediocracy match his ball hitting advanced stats? Interesting thing to note as he also has almost exactly half the ABS/PAs as last year, here are some numbers post swing change that was suppose to make him be more lucky (more HRs specifically). I doubled the 2019 number to reflect pace. 2018/2019: Doubles: 25/18 HRs: 20/20 K Rate: 19%/22.6% ISO: .215/.187 BABIP: .274/.318 I guess he has seen an increase in BABIP...but certainly the results didn't exactly spike as hoped. Thinking he is what he is at this point. Maybe some fluctuation here and there, but an .750-.800 OPS seems like the kind of guy he is. -

I don't think we have that many overachievers. Other than Davies I can't look at anyone and think, "Yup, dude is prepared for major regression.". Maybe Moustakas I guess? Grandal, Arcia, and Houser are all believable and can easily do what they have done so far. I guess I was more of a believer in Grandal having a big year here so I suppose one could point to him for some regression. Eventually we will get a good rotation with stability. Whether that happen internally or with the help of outside acquisitions. Offensively We are probably set unless they feel an upgrade at 1B is possible/needed. Bullpen help is always needed and I am sure will happen like any other year where we are competing. Hard to not be pumped if you are a Brewers fan so far. Pirates and Reds aren't the scary darkhorses they were touted as and the Cardinals have yet to really be much of a force like some thought. Cubs? They have been good, but not great and that is surprising with how well things have gone for them. Phillies have obviously been good, but no other teams have really jumped out of the gates fast that one wasn't expecting. The wild cards should be pretty attainable as a fallback. I don't see one needing 92+ wins to grab one of those slots. -
All four are locks at this point slump or not in my mind. They are just so widely dominant at their positions. Offensive rankings at 2B (fangraphs): 1) Mike Moustakas 12.7 2) Ketal Marte 6.6 3) Ozzie Albies/Cesar Hernandez 0.8 4) Negative Value here and beyond. at C: 1) Wilson Contreras 11.2 2) Yasmani Grandal 10.6 3) J.T. Realmuto 3.3 4) Negative value or not even qualified to be on the leaderboard. There are only 5 qualified catchers due to plate appearances. Even expanding it to include anyone with 100 PAs didn't make the offensive picture any prettier. Realmuto is actually #1 overall on fangraphs, but that is due to a crazy defensive rating. Which is nice, but not going to make a great AS case.
