  1. Why exactly are we extending a guy midseason for 3/$41mil when the last two years he has had to settle for one year deals ($5.5mil and $10mil). There is absolutely no reason to rush extending him. 3/$41mil sounds like a dream situation for him unless you honestly believe Moustakas is going to rep some 130 or better OPS+ the entire season. And even then how much can he possibly command after receiving almost no real interest two years in a row? I would rather wait and see what Shaw and Aguilar end up doing. If I was dying to unwisely extend someone midseason it would be Grandal.
  2. Is this in blue? Feels like Burnes has been awful this year, both as a reliever AND a starter... We are talking about 11 outings here....that is a pretty darn small sample. Overall the stats may not look good, but those 7 outings where he didn't give up an earned run were almost all really impressive. It isn't like he is struggling when he puts up zeros...usually he is dominant. I am not really a fan of getting rid of someone who looks dominant that often. I will take a few speed bumps to see if he can iron out the few kinks he has run into. 7/11 dominant performances means he is having good outings 64% of the time. For comparison Claudio is at something like 40% and Albers is floating around 53% as far as good outing frequency (calculated by using their last 10-12 outings). Yah, Burnes blowing up when he struggles isn't exactly good, but I think it would be unwise to demote someone finding success as often as he is. Woodruff was the same way to start the year, but in the rotation. His stats overall looked pretty bad, but most of the time he was really dominating...just had too many hiccups. Patience.
  3. A shame Villar isn't just a tad more versatile. If he was good enough to be a utility man he would be pretty darn good to have for any team. Last year he stole 35 bases and got caught just 5 times. That kind of speed, solid power, and ability to play anywhere would be great. Sadly, he cannot. Being able to play SS and 2B isn't bad though. Solid player none the less....but not something I miss not having.

Man if Toronto wins....just brutal for Bucks fans...
  5. Didn't Diamond Stone get paid like $16k to go to Maryland?
  6. They could send a pitcher down, but I would prefer it not be Corbin Burnes. Since moving to relief he has had mostly really nice outings. Much like Woodruff starting I think he has been doing good, they just need to be patient to work out a few kinks. It isn't like he bombs every single time he walks out there.
  7. The way Ray has been playing for the last three years, he wouldn't bring anything. He has been awful from A+ through this year at AAA and he's currently hurt. He was pretty darn good last year, but this year not so much. He has value, but I doubt it is worth risking our #5 pick going somewhere else and figuring it out. Stearns and Co. already look pretty dumb for that pick.
  8. Fine and dandy but the SA numbers look awful too. He doesn't have SA numbers. Because no one sane judges someone on 25 ABs. He is 4 for his last 13 and has 5 walks compared to just 2 strikeouts though if you like small samples.
  9. I don’t think the Pirates would have ever considered that trade anyway.
  10. [quote name= That's probably true' date=' but Hiura isn't the weakest link so if its him, what's the motivation?[/quote] He is the easiest to switch out. Easy demotion and keeps depth...probably the least risky so to speak. Still really hard to bail on Aguilar this early and Thames overall hasn’t been that bad. The worst player is Aguilar and Thames is the most logical swap because he is a lefty too. But once again...drop one of them and they are gone forever. Hiura is an easy demotion and it gives some time to see if Shaw has turned it around. If not it is an easy swap to bring Hiura back up while optioning Shaw. Or bring Hiura back up if Shaw hits and Aguilar/Thames continue to not hit. I just think Hiura being demoted buys time to see who will or will not hit. And I don’t think demoting Hiura, even if playing well, is some kind of crime considering how Shaw has hit the two years prior. They may not know what they are doing yet, who knows.
  11. If its Hiura its financial. No way the Brewers are making moves based on costs 4-5 years from now, just no way. We don’t even know if Hiura will even command enough to actually make that big of a cost difference down the road.
  12. Yah we have our backs against a wall with him. Teams won’t line up and give us real prospects for him. Teams know we are competing and can’t afford someone hitting like a pitcher on our team. If we got prospects it would be marginal at best and a bag of balls arguably would offer more future value to our team. Teams aren’t dumb and see Aguilar hasn’t been that good outside of a few months. First baseman aren’t that incredibly hard to find.
  13. I’m not sure how anyone can look at Coca and say he is blooming.
  14. Lol Aguilar is worth a bag of balls
  15. Life isn’t always fair. Shaw probably should just stay down, but the fact they are rushing him back tells me either Hiura is going back or Aguilar is getting dumped. The later of which doesn’t make a ton of sense just because Shaw is a lefty and Aguilar is a righty. That would make the corner infielders very LHB heavy. Dumping Thames seems...questionable, but I suppose possible.
  16. First step, go talk to a human...not the phone. Easy to hang up a phone. Face to face, not so much.
  17. You can add both Iowa schools to that list, Creighton also recruits really well. Missouri arguably recruits better in basketball. Indiana, KSU, freakin' WKU gets more top recruits. Minnesota, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Purdue, Nebraska, and Illinois all get more top recruits. Wisconsin is out recruited by essentially every Big Ten school and most stomp them when it comes to Top 100 recruits. Any half relevant D1 team in the Midwest easily out recruits Wisconsin. How? Why can other Midwest teams pull from the surrounding states, but Wisconsin looks like a floating plastic bag out in the middle of the ocean? Yes, recruits aren't everything...they have proven they can still win despite that. However, lets not pretend like they wouldn't be better and put together way better teams overall if they could nab some of those guys.
  18. 16% is pretty high considering I took only the most elite players and only considered guys who stayed local at non power schools. You could expand that to include any Top 20 guys not going to a power school and it would probably expand to 40% or so. Depends on the year of course. Some years Duke/UK have over half the Top 20 by themselves...some years not so much. For instance 50% of the Top 20 in 2019 didn't end up at power programs. 55% in 2018 and 40% in 2017. A lot of the 20-100 range is Midwest kids and as you say they should be focusing on these kids for when the bigger schools run out of room or trying to keep them in the Midwest. Yet they don't...while other Midwest school do. Now of course I hear people use admission standards as an excuse, while I am sure is valid to an extent, but I doubt that is responsible for an utter lack of recruiting success every single year.
