  1. That makes sense. Thoughts on the shifting putting him in more important spots being a balance to those points? I'd guess it's not enough to make up for it but it's part of the equation. When does Arcia make amazing plays when they do those extreme shifts? I can't recall very many. He makes some great range plays in the normal SS position and the more typical shift up the middle...but when they throw him halfway into RF I think Prince Fielder could pull off that shift. It rarely takes any moving. Don't get me wrong he is a big help in the current defense...just not convinced it is exponentially more just because we shift more.
  2. So he isn't one of the best SS to ever play the game? No one in the league is close to being as good as Simmons defensively. Considering the fact many here say, "Anything past his defense is a bonus", I would say many must think Arcia is on the same level as Simmons...who could literally survive on his defense. That or they really don't understand the defense needed to suck with the bat. Arcia is really good, but a pretty marginal player without real offense.
  3. Orlando Arcia has really good defense, I would say elite. He is isn't out of this world like an Andrelton Simmons though...who literally can be a solid contributor with his defense and little to no offense.
  4. I'm not able to watch. I saw it was a double play, but did he actually hit it hard...or no? He did - if it wasn't right at the SS it would've been a single But what if it was right at the 3B, 2B, 1B, or P?
  5. Ha okay....definitely confirmed he is an idiot. I figured there was a reason he didn't want to say where he was from. As it was pretty easy to google search and find La Crosse as the likely location. Not sure you would go seeking attention when you are a literal pile of poo. Whatever reporter called to ask him that....they deserve a medal. haha Gotta love a guy who explains his superior status by his money and his luck found way to make a million. EDIT: Sounds like the wife doesn't exist either. Which isn't surprising as he beats women for a living.
  6. I don't know. Then you're banking on Junior stretching out and Burnes figuring it out in shorter spurts. Sure, you could end up improving the starting rotation AND bullpen, but isn't it just as likely you just make an already thin BP worse for a marginal rotation improvement? Burnes is sporting a 10 ERA. Chase Anderson would be under half that easily. Anderson is a consistent solid back end guy. Just let him pitch until we feel someone is more promising than that. Burnes isn't that guy right now.
  7. Chase Anderson should be making a return to the rotation after another start or two by Burnes. Or Nelson if ready. There is struggling and then there is practically assuring your team a loss. I was amazed to see we were lucky enough to win two of Burnes starts so far. We can't afford to trot out someone with a 10+ ERA. That is beyond sucking...it is pathetic.
  8. How could I forget him...yah he is the modern day golden example. Escobar probably should have been toast at the MLB level before 30, but the Royals gave him that strange contract that made little sense...which was likely a thank you for being ALCS MVP and to keep someone from that 2015 team after they start purging off the other guys.
  9. I don't think he is either...but I don't know if that is just stating the obvious or if that is even a compliment. Not convinced we will see a massive improvement while he is still here...but I am sure he will get better not worse going forward. Which isn't saying much when you OPS .550 and try to hit below .200.
  10. I guess that could be a good comp if Arcia suddenly becomes Billy Hamilton with the legs and gets on base...but I doubt that. I don't get what you are trying to prove, really. Ozzie Smith was already close to HOF status without his defense by WAR standards (50 WAR and a HOFer is usually about 60ish). Ozzie didn't have power, but he knew how to get on base and use his legs. Orlando Arcia is neither and that is why he is a negative offensive player. Ozzie Smith, as crazy as it is, was almost HOF worthy without his defense (50 OWAR). You are trying to claim Ozzie as comparable because of OPS...which seems way off the mark. I can't even come up with another example of a 0 WAR player offensively starting year after year just due to defense. Hamilton would be somewhat the same. He may be the only other guy starting despite being a 0 WAR guy. And really all he did was get a 5mil salary for one year from a terrible team...probably bringing him in hoping to catch lightning in a bottle and have an exciting player to watch. Not for real value purposes. I am not saying his defense isn't valuable, it is, especially considering the rest of the infield...but hardly some great player. Just a guy that is there...filling a hole, but darn close to being a black hole when his offense falls off a cliff. If he is hitting .675 or above I don't really care. If he starts getting above .700 that is a solid SS for us. Hopefully he can be more consistent.
  11. With Babe WoodRuth on the mound: .429 AVG .563 OBP .625 SLG 1.188 OPS
  12. I would say he is a nice starter when he is sporting an OPS of .700+. Once he starts getting under that he isn't really all that special. If his OPS is at least .700 you are probably talking a 2.5 WAR or so...not bad, especially when the other positions pick up the slack on offense. Now when he is hitting .650 or worse he is easily replaceable...that just is not a very good ballplayer. I do not care how good your defense is. The minors are littered with guys who hit like a pitcher, but have GG defense. One big thing, SO FAR, is he has not had many errors...one to be exact. In years past he has been really terrible in that department. Something I think people gloss over way too much when talking about him. When you are sporting 25+ error pace over a full season that is definitely excessive and taking away from your defense. What he has done so far isn't great, but with so much offense everywhere else we can probably just accept it for what it is. At least for the time being. One could make the argument that we have the worst infield defense in baseball not including him...after sticking Moose at 2B they might just have to roll with Arcia no matter the offense. Kinda dug ourselves a grave if he starts hitting like his 2018-self.
  13. I mean $15mil yearly and only three years.....I could see us being players at that if we are desperate. Though honestly Keuchel and then getting one of the young guys bumped to the pen is potentially way more efficient. I think whoever signs Kimbrel will regret it...that's my hot take.
  14. He had $85k, he may not be wealthy, but surely isn't anywhere near poor. He also claims it was his first sports bet ever. Yah, okay...likely story. He is an idiot who has a betting addiction. He says he is "responsible" and a "finance guy". Yet, puts $85k down on Tiger Woods.
  15. It's only sad when you go in expecting Arcia to provide above replacement-level offense. If expectations are tempered, and we view Arcia for what he is - an all-world defender and below-average offensive player - any offense he provides is a bonus. No, any offense would make him good. Without offense he floats between replacement level and below average.`60 OPS+ defensive wizes aren't special. He is a little more easy to stomach now that we got rid of terrible offense at 2B and C...but two pitchers in a row in your line-up is pretty bad no matter how one spins it. I guess I don't understand how Orlando Arcia always seems to get the "anything he provides outside of defense is a bonus" when Fangraphs had him tabbed as the #37 SS last year (min 300pa) out of...38 shortstops. You can lather up that defense as much as you want and he is still one of the worst SS in baseball the way he hits. Comparatively speaking Khris Davis ranked better among his LF peers overall in 2015 than Orlando Arcia ranked among his SS peers in 2018. Value is value and Orlando Arcia is killing us massively on one side of the ball just like Davis statistically did. The defensive value just isn't really there when he hits like a pitcher, just sucks it away. The problem is he isn't just below average. He is well well below average.
  16. Fixed Woodruff can swing it. He's got a career .985 OPS, which is nuts though obviously a small sample, but even when you figure in his minor league batting he's about .700. So he is literally better than Arcia in his small sample (alert). That is actually kind of sad.
  17. It took awhile. I remember being pretty disappointed he wasn't doing better despite his AS bid last year. The power really wasn't there until the last two months or so. I was one of the people pretty bullish on him hitting 30+.
  18. I don't think the Brewers could possibly care any less how Pina hits in his brutally limited playing time.
  19. I don’t think he really called him off...or at least didn’t do so loudly. Yelich had it...easily, if he wanted to. Maybe he assumed Arcia would get it because he was running in real slow like he was a spectator, but once he realized Arcia wasn’t going to have a easy play kicked it into high gear.
  20. Well someone is getting booted for Nelson when he returns...maybe someone in the rotation. That’s for sure and Nelson sounds to be doing well these days. So there’s that. We aren’t trading for someone any time soon and if you are hoping for Keuchel or Kimbrel you are sadly dreaming.
