Trevor Bauer suspended for two seasons

Should have never been suspended in the first place, but here we are. No one really liked Bauer before, so it was easy to just throw him under the bus, blacklist him, and then move on. This is what pro athletes face. You have to be treated as guilty due to the media attention etc. Even if you are totally proven guilty, it likely can't undo the damage done. Bauer was screwed out of tens of millions of dollars. -
This sucks, but baseball is fickle. For all we know, Woodruff was about to toss 6 ERs over 2 innings to blow Game 2. We still have the pitchers to get it done. Both Peralta and Burnes have the ability to win two games in a series with their arms. Wade Miley, as boring as he seems, can pitch a lot of zeros. On paper, it is a big loss, but over the course of a game or three…who knows if it was even a loss. Just gotta move on without him.

Considering the failure rate of prospects and/or failing to get anywhere near their potential…you are lucky if one actually turns into what you hope. It is a sharp drop off from there. Misiorowski is also the only obvious TOR guy. The other two have some interesting intrigue, but have a lot more going against them to become those kind of pitchers. Of course my post did mention the Brewers catching some magic/luck tI…which would be something like those three pitchers all hitting their potential and coming out of the gate sprinting. But that would be somewhat like hitting the powerball. It’s going to take a lot to go right for the Brewers to be a legit WS contender after Burnes/Woodruff skip town. The Mets, while they have a lot of question marks themselves, it is a fraction of what we have. They have a lot more money to fix issues. We don’t have the luxury.

Again, I said it in my post I don't envision them rebuilding and turning into a 90 loss team. Getting the final wild card only takes about 85 wins. Is that going to be a push once Burnes/Woodruff hit the road? Sure seems like what you would label their ceiling. Certainly, we have lots to love offensively in the minors. Pitching...well, that is pretty yikes. Burnes/Woodruff are pretty hard to replace and the difference between being WS contenders and .500ish fodder trying to sneak into the last spot. I have always been a supporter of extending Woodruff to help bridge the gap rotation wise. If you take those two out of the equation you have Freddy Peralta and a pile of garbage. There are a few guys down in the minors, but odds are one or two totally flop or severely underperform their potential. Moral of the story, Brewers are going to be entering a massive loss of talent this offseason/next season and you gotta be pretty optimistic about a lot of guys who haven't even seen the MLB field to explain how they won't be struggling after 2024. Maybe the offense finds enough young guys to actually be a pretty good unit...but that rotation is going to need a little magic/luck to not weigh them down. Not sure the Mets situation is as dreamy as it looked 12 months ago, but certainly there is a lot of money/talent to be had over there. A lot better looking than the Brewers at face value. But of course...one could have said that 12 months ago too, but our season went the exact opposite.

Did you read the entire post, or just cherry-pick? Because the next sentence mentions how it is unlikely all of them return. So I am fully aware one or some may return. The point is, it is quite likely at least one goes and very possible all are gone after ‘24. Even one leaving is a pretty big hit to the teams pitching, especially when Miley’s near sub 3 ERA doesn’t repeat itself

Well, he was much better in the second half...with an ERA near 4. He has thrown his fair share of gems too.

If Counsell leaves, I don't think money was the motivating factor. The main reason if he doesn't return, our roster is about to nosedive. Adames is gone (though he isn't that great it seems), Burnes is gone, and Woodruff is gone, heck even Miley is gone. It is pretty doubtful all those guys return...if they were, Counsell probably would stick around another year. I don't care how optimistic you are, deep down, you know this team is going to be quite low odds to make the postseason in upcoming years. We probably aren't going to run out there and lose 90+ games, but our starting rotation is not pretty looking after we lose two Cy Young candidates. I always figured he would bail after the year to be with his family (didn't care much to manage elsewhere), but if Counsell 100% wants to manage next year...yah, Milwaukee isn't really a great gig. Getting a WC spot would be a success in 2024+. As far as this award, the award is kind of dumb and subjective. Counsell would win the award if it was based on the last 5 years of tenure...but it basically awards the surprising team of the year. Which is fine, or else the same manager would just by default year over year.

He lives in Whitefish Bay, literally where he grew up and went to high school. He owns a house that is pretty modest and close enough to his neighbors that he can hit the side of their house while snow blowing. The lot is so narrow he can't even have a two wide driveway (that is asphalt to boot). He doesn't pay to get his roof cleaned and his peak landscaping is a Whitefish Bay 'Duke Pride' sign in the front flower bed. I am pretty sure Counsell said he only took the Brewers job because it was the Brewers...any other team and he wouldn't have started managing a team. I am also pretty sure he has said before he doesn't really have interest in managing elsewhere either. If I had to guess, I would put the odds at 60% that he is considering not managing period next year. Live life, be with his wife, travel, and watch the kids play etc. It is probably the most sensible option. However, if that was the case, I would think he would have just come out and said it. Maybe he doesn't want to draw attention during the season though. I would probably put a 30% chance he is just playing chess to get the best offer out of Milwaukee. And maybe a 10% chance he is actually considering going to a better place to win. I really can't imagine him uprooting his family and going all the way to NYC though. It just doesn't really make any sense.

I’m pretty sure the rule is similar, if not identical in college and it has been a thing in the NFL for over half a decade. I’m not sure if he was on field goal kicks in college…heck I don’t even know if he was in on a field goal kick before that play. Regardless…I think any fringe football fan knows you can’t do what he did. Hopefully it was a fluke and Quay Walker isn’t going to feature more boneheaded plays this year…but it isn’t exactly inspiring for him to clinch the loss after doing some stupid stuff last year.

To be fair, that last one, we needed a return for a TD to have it be a real game. but yah…all season, it has been annoying. More often he gets a flag so we start on the 10 versus an extra year past the 26 yard line.

Quay Walker seems like a guy you will be happy the day he is gone even if he is a good player. I mean come on man.

A lot of those plays they showed at half sure seemed Love could have used his legs and got out of the pocket. You know your line is trash today, guys ain’t getting open…run. Especially with man coverage clearing out the middle of the field. If Rodgers can make some plays out of the pocket, surely Love can. That should be a welcome gain to not having ancient Rodgers and his slow legs, more mobility.

His throws are terrible, up there with what people would consider the trash of the NFL statistically. Everyone blames the WRs for drops…they ain’t even Top 20 in the NFL for drop percentage. He isn’t accurate and it is quite a miracle he only has a pair of IMTs all year.

Except Hader has been crying about his usage and in what inning it was in for nearly a half decade. This isn’t really something he got cautious about two weeks before Free Agency. I am surprised this is even news, who called him out for refusing to pitch? Hader has pitched 4 outs just three times since 2019. The postseason once last year, 2020 during the regular season, and 2020 during the postseason. The guy has never been a team player, just looking to get paid. Complain about being a closer or not is one thing. But he complains about arbitration every time and refuses to pitch more than an inning. He knows he gets paid based on ERA and saves. A few less innings is great, just pad his stats. I mean one time he made his Players Weekend jersey his outdoor clothing brand on the back to try and use it as marketing instead of his legitimate nickname.

Didn’t Milwaukee just pass some 2% tax that will take effect next year or so?

Plus, about $10mil in income tax generated. That is $30mil per year total in just straight up cold hard cash getting collected. $600mil over 20 years without having to jump through complicated mental gymnastics to then value economic impact etc. etc...which do add value for the city/county. It doesn't seem like a bad deal at all. The deal will get done after the county/city bicker about it for awhile.
