  1. It is a money grab. Is what it is, I would probably do the same.
  2. Blaming the university is laughable. Unless these speeding tickets were 100mph+, I don’t see any reason the university should have believed the guy was at risk of reckless driving in the form of street racing/104mph. They are probably asking for $2mil because: A) The university has money to pay out. Suing the person actually responsible (well the estate) probably doesn’t have much money to give out. B) Low enough where they might be able to just settle out of court and the university will just want to be done with it quicker.
  3. Baseball Reference has this comparable score. It is entirely based on old school counting stats though. In some ways the comps can actually be pretty relevant. Less experience the weirder it can get though, as is being a reliever/starter like Houser. Corbin Burnes has Logan Webb as his #3 comp. Trying to use it to comp two players for talent and/or future earnings type stuff is getting pretty unrealistic. There is probably a reason none of the comps made any sense for Adrian Houser. Probably because guys like Houser don't get long term contracts or even last long enough to try.
  4. Did you click on it? Were there ads on your screen? Mission accomplished.
  5. The A's are now going to demolish the Tropicana to make room for a new stadium....no sorry, not the dump in Tampa Bay you are thinking of, a casino in Las Vegas. The new plan would apparently require over $100mil less of public funding. The new plan also puts them directly on the south side of strip, instead of on the west side of the freeway like the Raiders stadium is.
  6. The offense is putrid, but it only has up to go. Turang/Yelich/Wiemer can't possibly get worse. Winker is also likely to provide a boost eventually over what he has done...he also had zero homers in April last year. The same goes for Voit, zero homers in April last year. Then there really isn't anyone playing over their head...except maybe Tellez. It will be interesting to see what Turang/Wiemer do. Both have shown some spurts of life lately. Maybe they can start avoiding stretches of utter cluelessness. I also think Urias can be a huge help. Our bench has been hot garbage without Urias/Taylor around. Those lower-level roster guys aren't very appreciated, but they can sure help avoid losing 6 games in a row.
  7. I think there is a lot of legality issues with them. I am pretty sure Illinois doesn't use them anymore for that reason. They put out the signs warning of them in construction zones...but everyone goes 20+ over the speed limit so I doubt they actually exist. An actual cop tests their radar every day and can appear in court. The speed camera does neither of those things. I am guessing red light cameras hold up in court because whether you stopped or not is pretty obvious on camera. Then they just label them the equivalent of a parking ticket because you can't prove who was driving the vehicle. I think it is kind of ridiculous because 9/10 the camera is just nabbing someone for rolling a right-hand turn...not the guy blowing the entire light going straight at 60mph.
  8. History says the Cardinals are pretty toast. It especially won't help their case if the Brewers/Pirates/Cubs are all .500ish teams or better. Historically, teams don't dig themselves out of this bad of a start. The only thing in their favor is they didn't come into the year with low expectations and the trade deadline is much later than it used to be. Leaves more time to commit to selling/adding/holding.
  9. It made sense for the Jets to go after Packers WRs regardless of whether Rodgers kindly requested them or not. If you are hedging your bets on an old QB for 2 years, having him get comfortable and learn to play with an entire roster of new guys is a lot of wasted time that could be costly. Especially early on next year. Unfortunately for the Jets, Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb were the two WRs available to nab and not someone like Davante Adams. Knowing how Rodgers runs an offense and how guys have struggled with him at first in the past, it will probably end up beneficial. The quality of those guys isn't that great though, so I don't really expect this experiment to work that well for the Jets. We shall see though.
  10. Well, Winker did OPS south of .700 last year...so I am not how much of a shocker his production has been so far.
  11. Agreed....and before I get jumped on, no, I don't think there was much of a better avenue last offseason to go. At least from the standpoint of trying to compete this year. This is probably the best way we could have attempted to compete, I guess we shall see if the rookies can right the ship in the coming months. The most obvious thing we could have done differently is kept Wong and not had Winker (thus no Turang on the roster). However, anyone checking stats knows Wong has been absolute trash this year. We could have kept Renfroe, who is hitting well again this year. Renfroe/Taylor is probably more pleasant than Taylor/Wiemer at face value on 5/4. Offense is just a big ole disaster.
  12. So was you taking three posts to actually try and have a conversation. You could have just led off with this post versus whatever you were trying to accomplish before. They have jumped out to a 18-12 start largely because of the crazy offense we were getting the first couple weeks. Now we are back to looking like a .500 at best team. The only reason we have not cratered into the abyss is because pitching/defense. Turang by himself isn't a problem and Wiemer isn't a problem by himself. However, them both in the line-up is a huge issue. We are trotting out like five guys on a nightly basis that are #9 hole hitters. We probably are just hosed at this point and have to ride it out. I am not one to start clamoring for the fodder in AAA. This was always going to be an issue with depending on a bunch of rookies. Add in praying on Winker/Anderson to resurrect their careers...yah, the offense is looking pretty brutal. Hopefully at least one of Wiemer/Turang starts being a decent bat consistently. We can't win with a flurry of guys OPSing in the .600s. No amount of defense/pitching is going to carry that over 162 games.
  13. Value of depth, depends on who the next guy up is. Your comment makes me think of elite pitchers that miss extended time constantly. 3.25 ERA is fantastic, but if the guy pitching the other 1/3 of the season throws up a 5.25 ERA...well, collectively that isn't all that elite.
  14. I see, your cold makes it hard to just make a decent post conveying your point.
  15. My comment would be in reference to the entire team's performance of trying to get to the end goal, winning a world series...or more realistically, at least fielding a team that can make a legitimate playoff run. They are 18-11 right now, but that is largely thanks to guys starting the year like Barry Bonds. The current results, which are sadly more like what was expected, isn't going to cut it. Hopefully the offense warms up with the summer or we can tread water long enough to be able to make trades.
  16. That 2.7 WAR is a bit inflated by his bonkers 671 PAs. His 110 OPS+ was solid though, either way. If he can revert back to his near mid .700s OPS and a nice .350+ OBP he is a decent bat to have in the lineup. However, that seems to be his ceiling at this point and he is 30+ now. I can't imagine he is this bad, but could he start floating closer and closer to sub .700? Possible.
  17. I think our position players are just that bad. He also gets credit for 0.2 dWAR for Bref. He hasn't finished a season with a positive Bref WAR since 2015. He hasn't finished a season with anything better than -0.6 since then. So that is probably going to trend the opposite direction as the season goes on. I doubt Yelich has some newfound defensive gift at 30+.
  18. I am guessing people would rather see some kind of change versus watching the FO somehow epically waste another year of Burnes/Woodruff and Co. I don't really care what they do, because as you alluded to, the other options like Toro isn't a great option either. But thus, this is what the front office decided to do. Keep all the major pieces and expect a bunch of rookies to try and carry the offense out of the dumpster. All the rookies have been garbage at the plate. Mitchell could have some good games here and there, but struck out a trillion times...so him keeping up average production was an uphill battle before injury. Weimer has had moments here and there...but still has greatly struggled with the bat. Brice Turang has been consistently terrible though...basically no flashes of anything. No one was expecting Ryan Braun....but I think the front office was maybe hoping for someone to be a relevant bat. Instead, they all have been pretty useless. Sure doesn't help Brian Anderson and Jesse Winker have also spiraled into the abyss offensively.
  19. That is odd. The camera shouldn't even be going off on a yellow light. Those cameras usually are only tracking action at the line anyway...I am not sure how you would be in the intersection when the light goes yellow and the camera decide to deem you in violation. Also, in any state I am aware of with traffic cams, there is still someone reviewing footage. I can't imagine any state has the camera snapping violation and then packaging them up in an envelope without review. If this is actually happening that is just Phoenix being terribly ran.
  20. I’m not a massive fan of Brooks. A tweener guy between outside/inside DL sounds like a dude ready to get owned by NFL OLs. Probably why he was a 6th round pick. For a 6th rounder though, he is pretty intriguing. Maybe he can carve out a niche role
  21. Plenty of people were worried about his knee (not me personally), so why couldn't have Yelich felt that same way? Braun signed a 'team friendly' extension and then months later got caught doing PEDs. Was part of the reason Braun kept signing team friendly deals because he was cheating and knew if he ever got caught his future earnings would be at incredible risk of plummeting? I guess we will never know...maybe coincidental. I imagine a player doing PEDs might be a little more anxious to get the contract signed in case something were to happen. These players are signing these kinds of deals for reasons other than being okay/happy where they are. If he wanted to be a Brewer and sign a team friendly contract, he could have done that when he hit FA. Obviously a player is also concerned about any risks that might be present or could happen that might destroy their career...thus never signing anywhere close to the team friendly deal.
  22. Or because he felt he was going to statistically fall off from his knee injury or for any other apparent reason. It appears it never was a team friendly deal...more like highway robbery on Yelich's part. Pointless though, because he is about as untradable as it gets. I don't think we are going to pay upwards of $100mil to get him out of town.
  23. My insurance and others I have seen reduce the rate for automatic braking. I want to say mine also reduces it for blind spot monitoring/warning.
  24. Especially after Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson both implode and their teams pick Top 10. One can dream.
