  1. I hate the uniforms, but the yellow part of the helmet is a matte finish...I wish they would have a matte finish helmet in their rotation. The dark blue would probably look nice and sleek in a matte finish...maybe have all the special occasion helmets matte finish.
  2. Like I have said before. I’d rather the Cards just beat the crud out of these other contenders if that’s what it takes. I’d rather that than a giant 4 team dog pile in the WC standings.
  3. Probably the .290 OBP is the main culprit there. Really though? Billy Hamilton has stolen 50+ with just as bad or worse OBP skills. He flat out hasn’t attempted that many steals. I guess he flat out just didn’t play that much this year.
  4. Berry is 33 and only stole 10 bases this year...is he even fast anymore?
  5. 1) At this point I feel like they have something against Woodruff. 2) It is a race for a postseason spot. You want someone experienced and considered more stable. Woodruff has little experience and can't afford growing pains. He is a guy you would rather give a shot towards the start of the season...not with 5 starts to give.
  6. Oh I agree, I get it. He has been a solid addition for them since picking him up, wouldn't be surprised if they might want to bring him back. They probably thought our offer was worth nothing to them and didn't care about the money. At that point might as well keep him around. All the people freaking out about the Reds holding onto him (Twitter/Writers) make me laugh though. This is like when we add a AAA filler guy for nothing and we argue about it. Does it really matter one way or the other? Saving money isn't a big deal if ownership doesn't care about the money. Are the people of Twitter paying?
  7. What one of the 5,000 examples to you want? Teams are always throwing away money in different forms. I mean Eric Hosmer got $144mil from a rebuilding team that paid him just to spend money. We are talking about $1mil, probably even less because someone has to take his spot on the roster. It is meaningless to them either way. The money is nothing and what we were willing to offer was probably worse than a bag of baseballs because paying a MiLB player costs more [sarcasm](barely)[/sarcasm]. It was such a pointless move either way it was probably more valuable to waste our time and make sure they don't help us get better.
  8. This isn't entirely shocking...isn't the first time a team held onto a rental. Everyone says "Reds burned $1mil!", but then again no one has a problem throwing $10mil at Jonathan Schoop even if he isn't worth it. That money is almost nothing, drop in the bucket, meaningless. The Reds blow $1mil and miss out on getting a trash prospect...big deal. We blow way more than that signing Neftali Feliz etc.
  9. Haha this reminds me of Evan Anderson, who recently played basketball at Wisconsin. In 8th grade he was 6'10". In, I believe 6th grade or so, he was dunking basketballs and shattered a backboard. It was quite the deal in a small town in Wisconsin. He was not athletic at all though, ever. Despite that he got high profile offers (Wisconsin/Kansas/Kentucky). Wisconsin thought they could make him more agile and it was a big failure.
  10. More like a quarter priced at .25 cents and say, "No, thanks...I want more for it."
  11. Doubt they do that. We will have to play the wild card game...most likely. It isn't like those guys are dominant by any means either.
  12. That may be, but Broxton still has value THIS year. It would be nice to have him in playoffs as a late inning defensive replacement. If the Brewers have to give up anything for Harvey, it will be someone nowhere near the value of Broxton. If the 40 man is the concern, just dump Orf or Lyles.. You are assuming Broxton makes the 25-man come postseason time.
  13. Or trying to avoid Peralta and Guerra both in the rotation. I wouldn’t be too shocked if one averages an ERA well over 5 the rest of the way.
  14. You guys gotta remember Keon Broxton has burned all of his options and we will have close to zero leverage trying to trade him this winter. Unless anyone thinks he is a 25 man roster mainstay next year we are going to lose him for close to nothing anyway. If they have interest in Broxton it would make a lot of sense. Don’t think it happens, but makes sense.
  15. I’d be shocked if they claimed him and can’t get something to work out. He is a pure rental so not like the Reds care much about how it improves us. I’m confident we will give them the marginal prospect required if we went through the trouble of claiming him.
  16. At which point you care about nothing other than winning a trophy. They won’t shut him down come postseason time. At worst they send him to the pen for the postseason.
  17. If what his lawyers are saying is true it makes the entire thing pretty confusing. It doesn’t really make sense for these girls to go have mutual fun and turn around to get super wasted and then claim rape. Cephus is a college player with no money to go after...why would they do it? There was a loooong investigation before bringing charges, that makes me think him being entirely innocent here seems unlikely. It is going to trail and I doubt it will be super quick. So far there are a lot of bits and pieces without what happened in between. Hopefully the truth will be uncovered either way and proper justice can be served.
  18. I love the optimism thread, if only as an escape from the sourness. I remember at some point there being a "Pessimism Thread". Perhaps that might be a chance for the Debbie Downers to still get the negative things off their chest, without dragging down every other thread. There definitely was a "vent thread" at one point in time. It was maybe 2-3 years ago the negative thread was around. It was in response to being not having the ability to read the optimism thread without being negative towards someone's positivity. I may remember wrong, but it was decided you couldn't go crazy and vent in the pessimism thread like the vent thread you are thinking of.
