  1. Bullpen falters in extra-inning loss to Braves on Wednesday Corbin Burnes issues another quality outing by a Shuckers starter By Biloxi Shuckers Corbin Burnes tossed seven innings of two-run baseball to earn his first quality start at the Double-A level (Hunter Reed) Biloxi Shuckers Box Score Quick Summary: Corbin Burnes pitched another gem going 7 strong only giving up a pair of runs early. He settled in to strike out 7 and left with a chance to win. Sadly he did not end up with the win. After blowing a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 9th they regained the lead (4-3) in the 10th before blowing it again. They eventually lost the game 5-4 thanks to an unearned run. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Corbin Burnes (7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 7 K, 2 BB) started the game while Tayler Scott (1 IP, 2 K), Matt Ramsey (1 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 2 K), and Josh Uhen (2.2 IP, 3 H, 2 (U)R, 2 BB) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Blake Allemand (2-5, R, RBI) Jacob Nottingham (1-4, 2B, RBI) Michael Choice (3-5, 2 2B, RBI) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Mississippi Bottom of the 12th Joey Meneses singles on a soft fly ball to center fielder Johnny Davis. With Levi Hyams batting, passed ball by Dustin Houle, Joey Meneses to 2nd. Josh Uhen intentionally walks Levi Hyams. Connor Lien reaches on a force attempt, throwing error by third baseman Angel Ortega. Joey Meneses to 3rd. Levi Hyams to 2nd. Sal Giardina grounds into a force out, second baseman Blake Allemand to catcher Dustin Houle. Joey Meneses out at home. Levi Hyams to 3rd. Connor Lien to 2nd. Sal Giardina to 1st. Reed Harper out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Johnny Davis. Levi Hyams scores.
  2. Your Milwaukee Brewers are playing .500+ baseball after just two down years while the Phillies still play terrible baseball in what is now their 5th year, have an ugly looking MLB squad, and their farm system isn't that great for a team that has been terrible for 4+ years. We are quite lucky with how things are looking for us.
  3. Corbin Burnes has a nice mix of pitches and was still doing well tonight despite not really looking his stellar self. Was going to mention Nottingham tonight as he has done really well the past month.
  4. Tough one to pick as the Phillies have scouted all over the board. I think they would have taken one of the Virginia hitters, but with both off the board I would go Beck with Bukauskas/Faedo not far behind. 1.8 Austin Beck
  5. Should be an interesting case next month if we keep winning and he is still scuffling with not so impressive numbers.
  6. It's a luxury having a bench with guys putting up the kinds of numbers that our bench guys are. Aside from Franklin everyone is putting up starter like offensive numbers. You really can't complain about what anybody is doing off of the bench A difference maker over the course of a season that could make all the difference.
  7. How long do we trot out a guy striking out in 43% of his ABs in the last two years? I know Broxton's stats even out to be average in the long run, but I don't think there is much of a ceiling there. I know it would be weird to kick him to the curb since he isn't downright terrible, but I feel like giving Phillips some ABs before Brinson comes up for good would be an intriguing option vs. looking at what we already know in Broxton.
  8. Props to Jesus Aguilar for not being a spring training wonder. Nothing like having a productive guy like him to help out when there are injuries.
  9. For reference Ramon Flores is listed at 5' 10" also....though Scooter is a bit forward in that picture.
  10. Who says we will need major moves? This team actually looks really really solid. The rotation has looked really well of late and I don't think it would be crazy to have them produce like the 2011 squad did. Sure we don't have an ace, but we don't have cruddy #4 and/or #5 guys like some other teams do. I also think the bullpen would be quite easy to improve internally to have a strong unit there aswell. Add that to a productive offense and I think you could make minor moves to make a legit postseason run. I think the cost of relievers is a bit overblown as people just look at certain guys. Rental types and guys without long track records aren't that expensive. Not to mention some guys are expensive contract wise and you don't have to pay that much with prospects if you take on the money. I don't know if the rotation actually turned a corner or not, but if they did the offense is good enough and I strongly believe we could make the bullpen good enough. All you need after that is health and the right dominos to fall.
  11. Didn't Konerko or was it Thome who did it in one game he had a grand slam and then the next day he finished the HR cycle? I could have sworn either Thome or Kornerko did it in a 2 game span. Might have been Dunn also. I would guess it was a White Sox player because I am pretty sure my White Sox fan friend has told me something along those lines a trillion times.
  12. As expected despite saying skipping his AAA start was just to rest his arm.
  13. What I think it would take leaving out the two top prospects at AAA: -Corey Ray -Luis Ortiz -Lucas Erceg In my opinion he is pretty comparable to Adam Eaton. I prefer Eaton's game more, but Yelich also has an additional year of control. Regardless I don't see how you acquire without Ray, Ortiz, and another intriguing guy. I would expect a demand of at least one pitcher. Since none of us want to give up a pitcher you might be looking at something like this instead if you so choose: -Corey Ray -Mauricio Dubon -Lucas Erceg -Monte Harrison I don't think Ortiz for Dubon is an even swap and would require another prospect, but it was hard to find one that wasn't a pitcher without too much or too little value. One could fight over the 4th prospect specifics(maybe not one at all), but the first three would make the most sense.
  14. Corbin Burnes' stats this year are just ridiculous.
  15. Darn I forgot about Sogard. So that means Scooter Gennett would be the 3rd best utility player on the team if he was still here. Now I see why Briggs is furious we don't still have him.
  16. Garza is supposably only suppose to miss one start. With an off day his spot in the rotation will only come up once in the 10 days he is on the DL. Those who have mentioned Peralta that is probably a poor idea. He isn't stretched out and you are looking at 4-5 innings max. Starting him leaves the bullpen short and then you have to overwork it for 4-5 innings.
  17. I checked his stats before they updated on Baseball Reference and he went from a .4 to a 1.2 WAR. He hasn't played an incredible amount so his stats skyrocketed.
  18. I don't recall ever seeing a report that they are motivated. Even then that doesn't mean the price is going to drop.
  19. Interesting as his arm was never regarded as that impressive. His defense leaves a lot to be desired from the eye test though. He probably isn't highly regarded so people aren't fearing his arm. Thus, giving him more opportunities. OF assists are a lot like RBIs. You still need to deliver, but its also heavily driven by the opportunities given to you. That came to mind, but dang....9? He has 16 in his career that only spans 120 games. There must be something there more than opportunities. Accurate arm? I don't watch enough of Clark to really see that many throw attempts to get people out.
  20. Because the postseason will draw in fan interest greatly for next year+. I don't see what is wrong with making some minor moves to bring in a little help if the situation arises. I agree we shouldn't go selling the farm or even trying to trade for semi controllable players, but trading away meh prospects or prospects who are a long ways away from the MLB level wouldn't be a bad idea. A postseason birth would bring a lot of money in so even if you don't win the world series you can come out ahead. Get that revenue going, payroll can be higher, and you can help future teams even if this team doesn't go all the way.
  21. Brewers now rank #6 in all of baseball for starter ERA. Wow can things change fast.
  22. If I was going to be bothered by the Segura trade it would be because of our coaching staffs inability to fix him. I can't get mad because we traded him and another team made him better. If he was still here it would be foolish to think he would play this well. He would likely still be replacement level.
