  1. Haudricourt isn't hinting at anything big. The "big deal" talk is by individuals that find it too boring to talk about a trade involving just Peralta. Since the return would be a player(s) that aren't flashy.
  2. Such a low ceiling for Hughes probably isn't worth it even if he pitches well.
  3. Go up north and you can find some opinions on something like that. A lot of folks make their own barrell cooker. I have had some good tasting meat made in one, but then again they are usually pros at it.
  4. I would be a little concerned on why they are getting rid of him. He has been quite servicable during his career. Might be more than just a rough spring.
  5. Gallo>Guerra. Not convinced Guerra has that kind of value after a short stint. I wouldn't want Gallo anyway though.
  6. If you are a rebuilding club in need of someone to help at 2B Scooter isn't a bad option. He seems like a great guy for the fans, clubhouse, and has experience. That being said I enjoy his time here and wish him the best of luck in the future. His spot on this team was just no longer available.
  7. I seriously doubt that.
  8. Wisconsin was in a crummy situation because they only had a 2 point lead. They couldn't be too aggressive risking a foul. They did the best they could. They tried to slow him down as much as they could getting across half court and it forced a pretty poor type of shot. Not sure how you really defend someone shooting like that. I think they did the right thing and unfortunately sometimes you just don't win. Florida played it pretty well fanning everyone out so it was 1 on 1. Wisconsin stuck their extra guy under the basket incase he drove it into the basket. It's easy to say be aggressive and press until it causes a foul or it breaks down leading to an easy shot under the basket.
  9. No my attitude is you know what you signed up for so stopping acting like you're some poor unsuspecting victim. I mean serioulsly, walking around with these "broke athlete" signs? I'm so sorry that he gets a four year degree without paying a dime AND gets a monthly stipend on top of that just for being an athlete. Please, allow me to throw some money his way. Perhaps someone should send him a bill showing him what he would have paid for college if he wasn't good at basketball. And perhaps he should have gone to Turkey or Greece to play professionally three years ago if playing NCAA basketball is causing him to go broke. You're assuming a 4 year degree is really that valuable. Its value drops everyday as everyone and their mother gets one from the hundreds of online diploma mills. Fake degrees don't devalue a real one.
  10. Students can be employees at schools...they also get paid. There is something called change and maybe it is time for that. Athletics have boomed into massive businesses yet they get the same compensation as before? Hmmm
  11. I always think of that. Except everyone keeps forgetting that 99.9% of college athletes aren't going pro. So 99.9% of athletes love that scholarship. That scholarship is worth a lot more than trying to find a part time job. What this thread is complaining about is a such a small sliver of the big picture(athletes who don't care for the education). It isn't that athletes don't want or need the scholarship it is the fact that some of them are big parts of million dollar teams and the university is practically sacrificing nothing to have them there. Giving them an academic scholarship costs the university nothing and the university is making millions. I try to think of ways to pay them in a fair/realistic way, but every idea is problematic. There is just too much variance among NCAA sports/schools it would be so hard to do. What Kentucky can do is way more than some low end D1 school can do. If you go by what the small D1 school can do what is even the point?
  12. I must have missed the part where you were apart of a million dollar revenue sports team. Comparing yourself to them is silly. The problem is the fact to "one and done" players the scholarship is worthless and for players at big time programs the value of that scholarship seems pretty miniscule. They want a cut of enormous profits and can you blame them? That isn't to say I think they should be paid.
  13. That is a horrible idea as you would be fixing nothing. How many assured "one and dones" are there at the start of a season? Not all that many. What if I recruit a couple good prospects that have great freshman seasons and leave? Seriously I am going to lose multiple scholarships and ruin my recruiting for years? That just is not a good idea. It wouldn't even minimize "one and done" players, it would just spread them out.
  14. A Badger's fan making fun of something related to free throws.
  15. I hope you are referring to the ones making their schools money and not money pit athletic teams. However how do you then base their salary? Surely the bench warmer isn't getting paid the same as the star player. Do you pay them at the end of the season? Because a lot of times you can't predict who is going to be "worth" the most. Also if we are paying them does that then allow selling the players name on merchandise? Do colleges then get to bid and the player goes to the school offering him more money? A lot more complicated than just saying lets pay them.
  16. I really don't see any issue. There are only two criminal abusers of stacking up "one and done" players(Kentucky and Duke). Sure they are pretty successful every year(usually) it isn't like they are winning the championship or even making the final four at incredible rates. Also who freaking cares if Lonzo Ball doesn't go to class. I care what he is doing to entertain me on the court. I also don't think his interview was bad and definitely not something one should generalize all "one and done" players on. Most have the thought to wait a little bit to announce something like that. Feels like one of those, "I don't like the rule because my team can't benefit from it". Because we all know if a Top 10 recruit picked Wisconsin the entire state would be jumping for joy. I don't think it really benefits the NBA that much, but it sure benefits college basketball to have guys forced to come through them.
  17. Of those fouls you mentioned I recall a few of them: 1.Happ with 9mins left--You may or may not be right here. Even if you are right it was incredibly stupid on Happ's part regardless. He shouldn't be shouldering a player that hard anytime and really not with 3 fouls so early. 2.Foul on the 3-pointer--I agree probably not a good call(never gave a good view) and a flop job to put the icing on the cake. Though Florida was called for some ticky tack fouls on multiple occasions. 3.Hill foul at the end--Clear foul on Hill. He was not set and Barry went straight into him knowing he wasn't set to get the foul. Now regarding the last free throws I agree that one should probably miss it. Making it only gave them a 2 point lead and Florida is likely shooting a three no matter what so it's not like an extra point would matter. They should have intentionally missed and double teamed the person coming down with the rebound. That alone would likely end the game.
  18. I don't think the Giants were very big Bickford fans. So in their minds they didn't give up anything really all that valuable. Though that's just a hunch.
  19. I thought the Badgers were toast at approx. the 9min mark in the 2nd half when Vito Brown made a stupid foul that was an easy bucket for Florida which gave him 4 on the day. Then, I believe, Ethan Happ trotted down the court to pick up his 4th foul being an idiot on offense. Two of their productive players on the day had 4 fouls with almost 25% of the game left. That quietly costed them the game before missing a bunch of free throws came into play. You can't have important players racking up fouls like that so early in the game. Not against good teams. It is too bad it took so long into the game for Wisconsin to play decently. At one point they were shooting 60% and 50% from three point land and were losing somehow. The early fouls and turnovers just killed them.
  20. They got Will Smith at a reduced price because of such concerns. A healthy Smith throwing filth would have gotten a better return.
  21. Well, when you're up by two with 4 seconds to go in overtime, they kinda did, didn't they? Might be referring to the horrible free throw shooting, turnovers, and extremely early foul trouble. Though by the end of the game it evened out and Florida wasn't looking much better in those areas.
  22. So just because Florida hasn't fouled it is bad officiating. Seems like it has been called well. They actually called a foul on Florida and is was questionable.
  23. 15 seconds is too much. General rule is 10 seconds and preferably more like 7 seconds. 4 seconds though and no foul? Total gift to Wisconsin.
  24. Just noticed that both my Midwest and South regions on my bracket are 100% correct. Might have to frame it if it stays perfect all the way through.
  25. Kind of a fail on FSWI. Pretty sure it is someone's job to go over this stuff and they can't even tell him the correct pronunciation of a Brewers player. I still don't get it tough. Why pronounce it like Pena? Are we all missing something here?
