  1. To be fair, his breakout offensively came the previous year with an .840 OPS in the International League, so it's not necessarily all Colorado Springs related. And was 28. Look I am not hating on Pina. I liked what I saw last year, but I highly doubt he is more than an OK back-up best case scenario. I am also all for giving him a shot too. I'd give him and Bandy 50-50 playing time and let them duke it out. Not like I am saying, "No ceiling Bandy gets starting PAs and Pina is the back-up." Pina can feel free to shock us all and be something close to starter caliber.
  2. I mean he is 29 and been making AAA appearances since he was 23. Thats before considering he called Colorado Springs home last year. So his AAA stats are pretty meaningless.
  3. No it is only spring training. I don't care at all. That being said he sure isn't winning a roster spot playing like that. Though he likely had little chance anyway seeing he had options. I am taking Bandy only because I really don't see Pina as a legit starter. Might as well give starting at-bats to the one that has a a less known ceiling. However both are likely to play 50-50 to start the season and one will likely get majority after showing results on the field.
  4. Not saying Montgomery isn't good, but they need a reliable back-up and Ripkowski is definitely no where near being that. Michaels is also not that guy. Michaels can flash something every now and again, but he isn't consistent. That isn;t what you want in a back-up RB. They need another RB though and I think they do it in the draft. It doesn't have to be one of the first two rounds. They can get a decent back in the middle rounds.
  5. Honestly I think that is just a poor idea. We did that once with Jungmann and Bradley. They both took forever to develop and both were duds. They may take a college pitcher, but the intent to speed them through the minors to help you compete is not going to be the reason. The only way you do it is if that player is also a pretty high ceiling guy like Carlos Rodon was. However good luck finding that 9 picks deep.
  6. Odds are you aren't going to get any real value as long as he strikes out 1/3 of his ABs. That's not a really good place to be in and unless you have sustained success for a lot of ABs no one will trust what you are doing. No one is going to point to first half Broxton. He was totally different back then. That's like saying a pitcher sucked in the first half, but you fail to mention his fastball was 85mph and now it is 93mph. There is a reason for the improvement. That being said the second half still has a lot of concerns itself.
  7. Hmm that's an interesting one. If Broxton can keep the strikeouts reasonable that type of profile could be a reasonable ceiling offensively(obvious peak Weeks before the injuries). Of course Broxton has the opportunity to provide a lot defensively and on the basepaths too.
  8. Diaz gets that comp a lot.
  9. I read that as Diaz in the original tweet. My apologizes
  10. Inciarte has zero power though.
  11. I am not really surprised there are some question marks in the bracket every year. It is probably due to the heavy emphasis on putting teams in specific locations and getting certain match-ups to happen.
  12. Wisconsin deserved an 8 seed so no reason complaining about that. The commitee has proven unless you are a bubble team the conference tourney is pretty meaningless. Wisconsin was shakey all season and horrid down the stretch. One could complain about the generous seeding of Minnesota though.
  13. They have some potential match-up concerns in their bracket and obviously Iowa State could be really problematic. ISU barely lost to KU at home and beat them when they played at KU. Probably someone they don't want to play. On the bright side Kansas gets home games in the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 if they can make it there. For what it is worth I think Gonzaga got the easiest region and great match-ups for them.
  14. A+...probably won't take much to bump up though.
  15. I'm actually (and seriously) wondering if Martellus Bennett is on their radar. The Patriots traded for Dwayne Allen, which makes it very unlikely Bennett will be back with them. Bennett signed with the Packers about 5 minutes before you posted that.
  16. Personally won't miss Hyde. He was overrated being somewhat competent in a horrible secondary. Sure he is versatile which was huge for the injury riddled team last year, but outside of that he really isn't all that good. Have no problem giving money to Perry he was a dang good player last year. Being worried about it being a contract year is a bit silly. Sure you run that risk, but I don't see how you avoid a deal over that. He makes a heck of a lot more money if he plays well and stays the entire contract. Julius Peppers is a tough loss, but he is so old. Depending on him to keep being a factor and stay healthy is a prayer. Unfortunately letting him go means we have to keep Matthews and his steep salary. Jared Cook leaving would be a bummer, but I don't know how one can judge it not knowing what he is seeking. Thompson might think he could easily get a similar player elsewhere and not pay a boatload of cash. Really at this point it is pretty dissapointing we haven't found some veteran secondary help. Was really hoping we would at least solidfy a spot or two and hope one of the other guys already here can rebound.
  17. Not too mad he is about to get paid big time himself again.
  18. It is fine as it is. I don't see the need for even more garbage teams in the tourney. They almost always get beat in the first round and the ones that do win are usually 6-11 match-ups against a weak power conference team. Maybe if they actually surprised us more than 1/100 march-ups one would take them more seriously. However they prove they are exactly what we think they are. Come the Sweet 16 none are left on the bracket. Heck hard to find one in the second round honestly. Hey I love the occasional FGCU or the team slipping my mind that beat Kansas a couple years back, but adding more to the bracket probably isn't going to make more cinderella stories and I am not even sure the NCAA would want that.
  19. As a Kansas fan kind of disappointed Milwaukee didn't pull it off. Though I guess they still wouldn't have faced Milwaukee as Kansas is likely to get a play-in game opponent and Milwaukee would have gotten a guaranteed spot in the field. Let's be honest though N. Kentucky barely won and will likely get whooped the same way Milwaukee would have. Who cares though that's part of the fun.
  20. Same thing really if we are talking the typical repayment method of 10 years at a fixed monthly rate. Only difference would be the interest rate The thought process is if you had extra money would it be better to pay off more of your loan or invest it? If your loan interest rate is 4%, but I could invest it and get a 7.5% return technically you would be better off financially investing and just paying the minimum on your student loan. In the end I would be gaining 3.5% on that extra money. Of course, in my opinion, this theory doesn't make a ton of sense to me unless you have some incredible loan amounts to pay back and you have a lot of extra money. Because if you only have $30k in loans or so you really aren't going to be gaining much. I would rather make my credit look nice and have the loans gone faster than make an extra grand or two.
  21. Does it honestly matter in all reality? If the top teams in their conference are losing to UWM they are going to be a #16 seed and if lucky be within 20 points on the scoreboard after playing a #1 seed. Who ever makes it is about to lose in a play-in game or get steamrolled by a #1 seed. I doubt the conference really cares all that much who they send when they all suck as bad as they do.
  22. Possibly, but MU would have to do something in their conference tourney and Wisconsin would have to lose to Minnesota plus lose possibly the first conference tourney game on top of that. Wisconsin should be happy if they don't end up on the 8/9 line and have a chance to win a game. If they stay a 6 seed team maybe one could dream of a Sweet 16 run.
  23. Maybe when he was still down in A ball. Once he had the big year and shot up prospect rankings he was suppose to (hopefully) be a glove and bat SS. That is why he was a Top 15 MLB prospect.
  24. It isn't a nickname though, it is the same franchise. It would be like stealing honestly. Why would one want to remember someone from a different franchise? Miller Park is not the Milwaukee Baseball Hall of Fame. It is for the Milwaukee Brewers and the people that played for it. Though they have on occassion worn Braves uniforms which is interesting.
