  1. Honestly Braun in the OF isn't a problem until Clark or Ray is knocking on the door. Santana can always moves to 1B for Phillips if he ever makes it(Brinson will and will play center). I guess they could move Braun back to RF for Clark/Ray, but wow is Braun way worse in RF. My biggest worry is the last two years of that contract. If we have to move Braun back to RF or put him at 1B his defense will likely kill any offensive value he provides.
  2. Sure he lacks in the slugging department for a 3B, but then again who cares? The rest of his game blows away the majority of starting 3B in the league. Additionally we can still trade him in the offseason as a SS. Teams know what he can do at SS and 50 games at 3B won't change that. If anything it helps his value with position flexibility. If Perez continues to mash we can always move him back to 3B to make room for Santana. At that point we can trade Villar like you want or move him to 2B.
  3. I really doubt Trent Clark is ready by 2018. LF should be Corey Ray(will he even be ready), Brinson in center, and in right field Brett Phillips.
  4. I'd be perfectly fine with a young lottery ticket. Me too, but I think some people will take this as we are getting another one of their top prospects. That may not be the case.
  5. All depends on what he means by that. Most here probably instantly think it is another top prospect, but it could be a young guy guy Stearns personally likes. Also would he say the prospect is anything other than a "quality guy"? I hope he thinks anyone he acquires is quality.
  6. Small sample size(26innings at home), sky high WHIP, and what appear to be a bit of bad luck. Also mind you he isn't strictly a starter. They have bounced him to the bullpen too.
  7. His "insider" information wasn't even good and he was annoying.
  8. Padres took him back by choice. They probably could have just said "too bad", but they did not.
  9. Oh a great day to look at the box scores. Brinson/Diaz/Erceg doing their thing.
  10. I don't blame him. Somehow 90% of this board and half the baseball world overall still doesn't understand this concept. I would agree. Except that, you know, it's his job. Haudricourt is like the Yuni B of the reporting world.
  11. Scooter Gennett will either be at 2B or gone. He is worth more to trade then to have a 2B only bench bat who can't hit LHP.
  12. I am guessing a deal headlined by a teams 6-10 ranked prospect with 1-2 boring lottery tickets is the mid point. Maybe more if a teams scouts believe in his improvement vs. LHP this year.
  13. I don't blame him. Somehow 90% of this board and half the baseball world overall still doesn't understand this concept.
  14. If Fasola is one of the options everyone can stop the pipe dreams about anyone major. It is probably just some nothing special player.
  15. 1. Luis Brinson- Our two top prospects are both future gold glovers. However, one is a 5-tool player and the potential to be a 30-30 player in a time that features virtually none. Welcome to the top spot Brinson. 2. Orlando Arcia- We all know what Arcia is. A gold glover that will be a long term starter on that alone. If the bat comes together he could be a top SS in the game. 3. Josh Hader- I am sticking him over Ortiz because he is a more sure thing and closer to the MLB. I don't think he will be a TOR guy some are dreaming of, but he could be a mid-rotation guy or at worst an electric reliever. 4. Luis Ortiz- I think he has a higher ceiling than Hader, but there are health concerns and he is farther off. Nastiest stuff in the organization. 5. Phil Bickford- What a player to get for Will Smith. Bickford could end up as mid-rotation starter or at worst a top of the line reliever. He is going to be a force one way or the other. 6. Corey Ray- I know a lot of people weren't happy with drafting him, but he has all the tools to be a great above average OFer. He has started out slow, but I am not concerned yet. 7. Isan Diaz- This kid is legit and putting up great stats at Single-A. The power is there and the OBP skills are there two. Can't wait to watch him climb the ladder and the rankings. He may have to move to 2B, but his bat will play there just fine. 8. Trent Clark- I love the hit tool and even more so with his great OBP skills he has shown. He is going to figure it out and break out soon enough. 9. Brett Phillips- Phillips is a hard one to figure out. The second he came over to Milwaukee his K% spiked nearly double, but on the other hand his BB% went up too. He has the tools to be very good hopefully it will come together. 10. Marcos Diplan- The first time I saw video of his fastball/slider combo my jaw dropped. I don't think he will make it as a starter, but he is going to find a ton of success in the bullpen. 11. Cody Ponce 12. Freddy Peralta 13. Nathan Kirby 14. Monte Harrison 15. Lucas Erceg 16. Demi Orimoloye 17. Kodi Medeiros 18. Jorge Lopez 19. Corbin Burnes 20. Jake Gatewood 21. Brandon Woodruff 22. Gilbert Lara 23. Jacob Nottingham 24. Devin Williams 25. Tyrone Taylor 26. Miguel Diaz 27. Chad McClanahan 28. Brent Suter 29. Victor Roache 30. Wei-Chung Wang
  16. Honestly that pitching is pretty good if guys pitch as expected. Nelson/Davies will be solid, Hader should be solid, and Guerra could be solid as well. Maybe there is no TOR guy, but that rotation could win games for us. Ortiz could very well be on the team and put up TOR stats. The bullpen could be really solid. Thornburg/Ponce/Bickford is quite a back end. I know he didn't list Thornburg, but after dumping the other two I think they may hold onto him. The offense is hit or miss, but I think we could add two semi-major free agents to shore up two positions. Be that a starter and a position player or two position players. I think they could compete in 2018...I wouldn't bet on it, but the talent is there to do it. It would take a lot of things to go right though.
  17. We did this with Isan Diaz. The best prospect in a "buy it" deal that I can remember was Touki. Who now has regressed and they overpaid for.
  18. Actually casual fans know who he is. I always see him mentioned on Facebook. And that's a pretty casual crowd.
  19. Brinson is going to AAA right now so he could quite easily be up half way through the season. Phillips could get the call, but he needs to play better.
  20. For what? He and his agent already know he is a long term starter due to his glove. Not like it is likely for him to flame out and not be in the MLB in two years.
  21. The Brewers (likely) just traded what will hopefully be some kind of competitive 2023 year of control for a total dumpster fire year of control. At face value o think the move is bad in my opinion, but it could work out for the Brewers. Can't deny they just gave away a more competitive year of control though. Could really sting in the future.
  22. Garza will of course...maybe a guy like Boyer if anyone even wants him. Honestly that might be it. I don't think there is any chance Braun would go unclaimed. Not sure the Braves would do it after getting Kemp though I guess they are a good option. I am sure many teams would take Braun for his contract only. Only players not getting claimed will be Garza or players who no one wants.
  23. I agree 100000000% and I would bet a lot that is why they are doing it. Short sighted move that makes little sense for the long term. He is doing OK at a hitter paradise in AAA. Hope he can come up and hit well since someone is going to lose a starting spot(Perez?). Really a shame I just don't see the rush to promote him.
