  1. I think it is likely both go or neither go. The Alonso rumor is a bit interesting and may hint the odds they return is higher than one would assume. Their values may be low enough that they may just role the dice and QO them after the year. Burnes is probably more likely to get traded. Adames? Might as well bring him back. He isn't that special, I don't think you are going to trick any team into thinking the contrary. Might as well hope he pulls a 2021 to start the season and trick someone into thinking he is the offensive jewel of the 2024 deadline. 2024 seems like a solid year to trade some guys if the offers are pretty good and keep them if it is meh. Don't go around signing big contracts or trading for guys that aren't controllable. Just see how the younger guys do and see if they can create a strong core to build upon. Maybe do what we did pre-2018 and sign a Villar/Shaw to see if we catch lightning in the bottle.
  2. They may not call it rebuilding, but with Burnes/Woodruff both on the outs here momentarily, they are quite unlikely to be a serious WS contender...heck, they aren't even that now. Counsell probably doesn't want to man a ship that is going to be projected on the outside looking in just to make the postseason...let alone a WS.
  3. Clicks for the forum, that is the argument for Yelich. Only reason for this article.
  4. CC is a perfect manager for the Brewers. However, the mystery around his contract is pretty clear he doesn’t want to manage a rebuild. He has kids and such. Burnes and Woodruff have a year left, if neither returns…he won’t. No one wants a Milwaukee championship outside of fans more than CC…but if it isn’t possible, he has better things to do. It should be interesting to see how that transpired after the season. Something tells me Counsell will leave before Burnes/Woodruff/Off-season ever kicks off. The writing is kind of on the wall already.
  5. I think you are really underestimating how bad the Cardinals have been and how bad their record is. They are on pace for nearly 100 losses. The chance they pass up three teams to win the division is seriously minuscule…there are only like 3 teams in baseball with a worse record. If the Brewers (or Reds for that matter) played .500 baseball the rest of the year, which is probably pretty realistic, the Cardinals would have to go 56-34 to pass them up. 101 win pace the rest of the year. I’m betting that doesn’t happen.
  6. Could I see the Cardinals besting one of those teams? Two of them? Sure The problem is, they would have to outplay 4 teams…two of which are ahead by a very large 8+ game gap. Considering they almost surely aren’t going to notably try to improve their team…I think it is time people stop letting the Cardinals live rent free in their heads 24/7.
  7. I find this incredibly disappointing. When you think baseball, you think of the fields, the grounds crew, and the art of making the baseball fields what they are. All the effort to keep them in top shape for 162+ games through changing seasons. AmFam was specifically constructed in a way to allow enough natural light into a retractable roof stadium to grow natural grass…which I believe was quite a feat when it had been done. They then got the grow lights to make the grass go from decent the great. Taking all that into consideration, it is so disappointing to think they might rip up the field fo put down fake grass. The natural grass was probably one of the lone things that made AmFam not feel like an airplane hanger completely and that it was a bit outdoors. That being said, here is a cool info video about the Rangers field…which is pretty likely what the Brewers would install. Notably, theirs doesn’t have rubber pellets for ‘dirt’. It is a coconut shell ground up. https://insidetheblueprint.com/texas-rangers-new-stadium-features-innovative-synthetic-grass/
  8. He already has a guaranteed contract next year to prove it (he could miss the rest of the year and we are still offering arby…unless his elbow explodes)
  9. I always said the Brewers should have just blown it up if they were going to be lukewarm on competing…that feeling certainly would have been the better option. Though aggressively trying to compete probably would have been worse than what we are doing right now. With all the Adames extension talk I thought they were way better off just trading him over an extension. Thankfully they didn’t extend him…but yikes, sure wish they would have sold high on him. I don’t know…I didn’t hate what they did in the off-season…but I always had a feeling it was going to end up with a middling .500ish record at best.
  10. I wouldn’t be surprised if their contracts were identical year wise. It doesn’t matter either way. They can fire him if it is past 2023 if they wanted to move on.
  11. His comments have always hinted at "I won't be around for a rebuild". Well, this team is embarrassing...not winning it this year and the outlook after this year is really pathetic in the short term. Counsell is gone, for sure. I don't think it is that much of a loss and it honestly won't matter for the foreseeable future as we try to rebuild. Matt Arnold should get fired at the end of the year to leave with him.
  12. You are spoiling the All-Star Break merch release: 'Ask me about my cease and desist letter'.
  13. Used to be a trade sub-forum for stuff like this so the main sub-forum didn't have to be people joining the forum to sell us T-Shirts.
  14. It was via Fangraphs, I made the cutoff near his amount of PAs…so Taylor with less than half of his wouldn’t have shown up. The worst are Segura, Abreu, Tony Kemp, Baez, and Eric Haase…Turang is #6 now for 170+ PAs. Detroit has two of those Top 5 (yikes).
  15. I don't think it really matters. Why would you go with the guy who has 200 innings in his sporadic career over a guy with 1400 innings and before all the injuries was a consistent piece in a MLB rotation? Teheran was never particularly pretty, but he consistently put up a solid ERA. Of course, so far his BB/9 is 1.0....and historically that has been 4.5+...so a massive crash back to earth might be in store. I still would bet on him putting together a decent little run over Rea. You know what you are getting with Rea and it isn't good.
  16. Ironically, Teheran is replacing Miley...who once was a saving grace in a similar situation for us half a decade ago. Miley put up a 2.57 ERA in 2018 and even kept up that incredible run of dominance into the postseason. Is Terheran this good? No. Is he even remotely close to this good? No. The thing is though, what he does every other year of his career is meaningless. We just care about what he does for the next 4 months or so.
  17. That is quite the optimistic outlook to be concerned with the amount of control for a guy that was the 5th worst hitter in major league baseball before being sent down Not saying I don't think he can't eventually be a starting 2B, but his first showing was pretty dang horrid. Hopefully he looks a little more up to the challenge next time. He has the baserunning and defense to carry him a bit...but he will have to be way better with the bat either way.
  18. "With the 614th pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, the Brewers select...Jimmy Coalwinkle." *10 minutes later* Article: Should the Brewers Extend Jimmy Coalwinkle?" All jokes aside, rumor has it this series ends with Christian Yelich.
  19. Odorizzi and Lynn - 13 seasons of 150+ innings combined Freddy Peralta - Zero
  20. I’m a little tired of the “Omg the NL Central is a joke” and people honestly thinking it is possible or even believing a sub .500 team could win the division. The Brewers are on pace for 88 wins. A team isn’t winning it sub .500. I would say it is likely a team wins it with 88-90 wins. Maybe as little as 86 wins…but I really doubt it. I’d bet on a team winning it with 95+ over sub .500.
  21. I always thought it was a shame how fans treated him. He went out there and played the game. Despite missing expectations, injuries, and not living up to the extension…he always went out there and put in the work. There always has to be some team punching bag guy and he was it. Seems like it usually ends up the worst defensive player.
  22. Construction workers care about fresh squeezed or concentrate? Take the concentrate and just pour extra sugar in...I bet that will have the same effect.
  23. A lot of people thought we should extend Wily Adames too. Dude closer to deserving nontender papers than $150mil+ As much of a trainwreck this team is...the forum could make it A's bad with a big payroll.
  24. Yah, 9/10 Americans use it as an excuse to drink beer, grill out, maybe shoot off some fireworks, and not go to work. I would venture to guess over 50% of Americans couldn't tell you the difference between Memorial Day and Labor Day if you asked them randomly on a day in like January.
  25. There is a way for them to be protected. There are seats down in the dugout if they want to be safe. If millionaires want to risk a freak accident...let them. Might as well place a net in front of the pitcher like in BP at this rate. I don't think every random freak accident needs some solution to make the chances of it happening again 0%. It just isn't feasible or realistic. You would quickly make the game unplayable. It is only a matter of time before someone jumps into the nets down the line and gets hurt in it...what then? Sometimes I think these safety measures provide a false sense of safety. I don't recall a ton of injuries at the brick walls in Chicago...probably because the players aren't idiots and know it won't end well. Yet guys think it is safe to dive headfirst into a padded wall...doesn't end well. Remember when Lorenzo Cain dove headfirst into that chain-link fence as a rookie? Balls are flying really fast...there is going to be some inherent risk and freak accident potential.
