  1. That Orlando Arcia guy though...he is kinda good.
  2. It kind of sounds bad when the Brewers talk about it, but how many games does a player typically play anyway? 150-155? So maybe 10-15 games less? That really isn't a big deal.
  3. Sums up my thoughts so far. Very mixed... http://fantasy.usatoday.com/2016/04/domingo-santana-fantasy-baseball-brewers
  4. I thought the same too because I am sure the Brewers will be his first call this off season when (inevitably) goes looking for a one year deal to rebound, but then what do you do with Brett Phillips? I imagine the plan is for him to be called up next year after the cutoff line. Keeping him down till next August seems like a stretch. Not really concerned about blocking other guys because none of them are really all that promising. What matters more is if Stearns is a fan of such deals(one year to flip). Which I am not so sure about. It's a nice thought, but probably not worth it. Gomez was a sweet dude to have around when he was good, but not sure I would want to deal with a really bad Gomez if that is what he ends up being next year.
  5. Fixed that for you. Hope I'm wrong. I take the under
  6. It honestly will only take one team to get a good return...don't even need a bidding war. Last time I checked there is not much obvious offensive players that are going to be available this summer. Ryan Braun would likely be, by a large margin, the best bat available. .300 hitters with 40 homer power don't exactly grow on trees. If you want Braun to stay you might want to hope for some injuries to start popping up.
  7. I was inferring neither of those things. I infer that you were reading things into a statement in order to disagree. To summarize: At 80%, window breaking. At 5%, probably not window breaking. And not an either/or. Also, this seems to disagree with your stance from about six weeks ago. Was he mashing like an MVP or healthy 6 weeks ago? No...so I don't understand your statement. But to answer your question yes it does disagree with my previous statement. His stats have dramatically changed and he has been healthy. I don't see anything wrong with changing my stance if Braun suddenly changed himself.
  8. Why was it a reason to get rid of him? I just don't get it. So he had some base running blunders...probably costed us less runs/games than Fielder's horrid defense and everyone loved him. Look at the big picture. Gomez was one of our best players for two years and had massive value to the team. Like every player he had weaknesses. This isn't about Prince, this is about Gomez, who would not be a good link on a rebuilding team. He would have the opposite effect on young guys. The guy is just so irresponsible on the basepaths, the last thing we need now or in the future is another guy like him. Gomez won't make others play like him. I have never bought that argument. I wish it was that easy and we could get some .400 OBP player to infuse success into a guy like Gennett or Segura (last year)...but sadly it doesn't work that way. Any stats to back up the Astros suddenly running wild on the base paths?
  9. Didn't say taking on money wouldn't facilitate a better return. However he was inferring it would take 80% of the contract to get teams to jump through the window which, in my opinion, is ridiculous. He also infers that picking up no money means near all likelihood a quite weak return...which I think is flat out false.
  10. Until someone pushes him off 2B(no clear person in the near future) or we get a great offer Scooter Gennett isn't going anywhere. Honestly he is young enough he may just be apart of the next contender. I don't envision him still here, but he could be.
  11. I think you are underestimating what Braun *could* be worth. Ryan Braun, to an extent, is similar to Cole Hamels. Each is an elite player, owed a lot of money, and on the wrong side of 30. Cole Hamels was traded for quite a haul so I don't think picking up money is even needed. If Braun is hitting like an MVP he *could* bring back a haul quite easily even while shedding the entire contract. I say *could* because like the rest of you I have zero idea what other teams think of Braun. For all I know Braun is the spawn of the devil and no team wants him even if he is hitting .500
  12. What exactly do you think he would get in a multi year deal? He has been absolutely dreadful. His best option might be a one year deal probably not over $8mil(utter max) or a two year deal around $15mil. His best bet is to take a one year deal and hope he can rebound to get a bigger 3 year deal. He would take that QO in a heartbeat at this point.
  13. The Brewers draw a ton from outside the Milwaukee area. Having a roof gets people to invest in the long trips. I lived towards Eau Claire and I knew a lot of people that made multiple trips to Milwaukee for games.
  14. The part in bold is really interesting. It really isn't surprising at all. Peralta is a great buy low candidate. ESPN was talking about him for another team too...think it was the Rays?

  16. Too many fans around baseball think the Cubs are godly and the road to success is to be exactly like them. If they held onto a massive contract for no reason we must too!!! Do you think they haven't built an impressive team & done so through rebuilding from the bottom up? Just because some fans (me included) see the Cubs as being a model to emulate doesn't mean anyone claims they are "godly". Hell, the same model is what led to the Brewers re-visiting the playoffs. I swear, it's incredible how it feels like so many posters here have completely forgotten how the last successful 'era' was built in Milwaukee. I am in no way saying their model hasn't worked but, many forget the Cubs have put themselves over the top due to some major FA signings. Something we will never be able to do. You can't just copy everything they do especially something bad like holding onto Soriano just because the Cubs did it and they turned out OK. Why even trade Lucroy? We don't know that it will actually help us in the future and we might just end up OK not trading him. Bottom line it isn't that simple to follow in a teams footsteps. If it was that easy everyone would have amazing teams. Personally following the Cubs model is probably a bad idea. The team was built with near perfection and honestly total luck. Every trade worked out and they were hitting on draft picks left and right. Then to top it off they had the payroll to add a couple FAs. I don't think their model is something amazing or better than other routes to go. Not saying another team can't/won't succeed with that model, but I am not sure it is necessarily better.

  18. What exactly are you even trying to compare? Alfonso Soriano was massively overpaid, old, and was not very good. His value was negative. Now how does that compare to Braun?
  19. Yup... now his average will creep back down to earth and you will have a no patience, no power, and slap hitting SS who plays decent defense. I have heard some scouts give him some solid reviews, but the results have been the same. He just has some seriously inflated stats right now. Even if he hits for a slightly higher average what does that make him? An average hitter to go with his average-ish defense? Unless he actually finds some kind of doubles power he is limited on offense even with a high average. I don't think that is going to upset many since most feel we got a pretty darn good return for Segura.
  20. First thought you seem to be acting like we are proposing the Brewers to dump Braun just to save the money. That isn't even remotely close so try to read more closely. Second thought via the bolded part. Do you not realize Braun has been injured frequently, with pretty serious injuries at that, for years now? I don't know I would call it likely for him to hit .280 years from now.
  21. They weren't outliers. He was legitimately that good. Unfortunately injuries(most notably his legs) and age may have caught up to him. He is the type of player that doesn't last long and sadly for him he figured it out late.
  22. Stearns didn't acquire those guys. Secondly none of that matters because we aren't competing. For long term acquisitions you may be right to a degree. However for a 2-3 month rental his approach would mean absolutely nothing. If Stearns only plans to have a player around for a year or he hopes to flip I doubt he cares what they do if it can get him what he wants in the end...young controllable talent. No one said we were going to sign Gomez to a long term contract to be on the next competing team.
  23. If you read the Astros' sites, they might well be trying to unload him now. There are voices that sound like they are about to give up on him and cut their losses. They know they got snookered. The longer he stays and doesn't produce, it just increases the pain. Plus they have guys ready. The way Carlos has not been producing, it's likely no team will look at him as a starter in FA this winter. If he'd be happy coming off the bench in Milwaukee as opposed to anywhere else, why not? I think he gets a starting job this winter...id be surprised if he didn't. As for trading for him I would do it for basically free...don't know if I would throw more than a couple million to take him on. I just don't see him turning it around in just a few months. Not enough to get a useful return in July. And to take away at-bats from younger guys makes it less attractive no matter how bad they play.
  24. Doesn't make sense. Astros won't deal him now and dealing for him at the deadline makes no sense for us. I thought about a possible 1 year deal this offseason, but Phillips would have to stay down till August then.
  25. If Ryan Braun goes into the break hitting at MVP levels, OPS over .900, average well over .300, and healthy I don't think it is that far fetched that a team would come calling with an acceptable package. I know he has baggage via injuries and age, but how often do controllable MVP type hitters become available? Ryan Braun can be a difference maker on a teams offense...not just some role player. I wouldn't be surprised if they got a decent offer...but at this point it is impossible to even gauge the likelihood of it happening. We don't know how the trade market will take shape and if Braun can keep it up while being healthy.
