  1. Sadly Thornburg's chance to start has come and gone. He is still in the mix, but he isn't next in line or anything(long term). As some mentioned his stuff has really declined which makes such a move even more questionable. Let's see what he can do in the bullpen first at the least. As far as Will Smith...NO. Amazing bullpen piece that should stay that way.
  2. No one will claim him...If a team did the Brewers probably would not let him go. I just don't see them dumping Braun for nothing.
  3. Typically no. Most teams like having players making low money when they are good so they can pile more talent when that player is at his best. They also consider inflation when handing out deals of this nature. So typically a contract is going to be backloaded if anything. Johnny Peralta has a front loaded contract as did A-Rod's 10 year deal with the Yankees.
  4. -The Brewers owe him nothing...nothing at all. -Front loading a Lucroy contract is about the only good idea I have seen related to a Lucroy extension. -Lucroy is not Yadier Molina...and should not be paid accordingly. On the subject of Molina he happened to sharply decline offensively when he hit 31 and Mauer also declined greatly starting at age 31. The same age a Lucroy extension would start. I want nothing to do with a Lucroy extension. This is a time where you be happy for the bargain contract and punch out when the value is maxxed out. If I was forced to offer him an extension it would be for 4/$40mil or so and no more. $80mil for Lucroy is almost assured to go badly.
  5. All those things were true before. Just before he was on a hot streak and now he isn't. If he stood any closer to the plate he would just get busted inside on the corner. He can't hit the inside pitch so he is almost forced to stand far away. Before it wasn't a big deal because he could reach with his heavy/long bat for stuff on the opposite corner of the plate. Well now he can't and struggles heavily with stuff over there.
  6. Well I would hope Scott Kazmir would get a pretty healthy pay check. He has had 3 solid years in a row and most importantly is pitching lights out this year leading into free agency. Are you saying you think Garza pitching like this could land 2/$30mil this winter? Who, over the age of 30, has ever managed to get that money pitching as badly as he has? I'm not saying there isn't...but can you provide anyone? Not to mention he has that option that could be pretty expensive if he just stays healthy. So really you are looking at more than a $30mil investment possibly. I can recall some guys getting 1/$8mil or so...maybe a a couple getting about the same amount over two years...but $30mil? I can't say anyone comes to mind.
  7. I'm not disagreeing with the general point that Garza's contract isn't unreasonable(if he was pitching well), but comparing him to Porcello is just flat out wrong. Porcello is much younger and was still considered to have a lot of potential. So while his stats were similar to Garza's his whole contract would be in prime years and the potential to be better was there. Which is why his contract is way more than Garza's. That being said if Garza was pitching to a solid <4ERA there would be interest at his modest salary. However he has looked rather poor all year.
  8. I'd be totally open to trading Khris Davis...but not when his value is low. If he doesn't turn it around I'd probably let him get a shot in 2016 to see if he can rebound. Maybe flip him next July...or after 2016.
  9. People love to use that Porcello deal for comparison, but really how is he similar to Garza? Porcello was extremely young for a FA at that time and Red Sox were banking on potential. Garza is extremely old with no future upside. Not to mention most hated that Porcello deal when it happened. If someone claims Garza I can almost guarantee that team is going to get him. Unless the Brewers really have hope he can turn it around to be a good trade chip. Which is understandable, but I'd let any team have him considering they would take his full contract. I don't think there are teams lining up to take a chance on him. If that was the case he would already be gone since reports stated the Brewers really wanted to get out of his contract.
  10. Kingman really needs to figure out how to throw less pitches. He racks up pitches very fast.
  11. First people complained about being worried the Brewers wouldn't trade Gomez due to ticket sales and now I have to hear it about Lucroy? I need some sleep I have a headache.
  12. Lucroy makes over min. salary so he is probably not an option for the Mets. In all seriousness I don't have much interest wasting my time with them.
  13. I and anyone else can love a player for whatever reasons we so wish. They don't need massive stats or help us win a world series. I'm not sure why someone would try to criticize someone for liking a player more than another. Did you ever think some of us didn't exist back in the Yount/Molitor days? No probably not. Those two are nowhere near my favorite Brewers of all time because I never watched them play...so really in the end I could not care less about them. Carlos Gomez is by far my favorite Brewer EVER. Sorry Yount/Molitor....
  14. I wish they would have gotten more, but clearly the market just wasn't there. Gomez just wasn't drawing massive interest and Mike Fiers probably wasn't lighting people on fire because he is 30 years old. I truly believe this was a good deal the way the market was.
  15. Speaking of Gomez the gum story with Hamilton had a happy ending. Gomez sent a giant box of gum with a personal note. One of a kind player.
  16. Yup we played the Astros in their first year in the AL(2013) if I remember right. So 2016 we should be playing them.
  17. Agreed, very happy to see Fiers traded. Sold high on him just like they needed to do. Very smart trade all around for Melvin
  18. Carlos Gomez is an irreplaceable player. We will never have a player who loved the game as much as he did in my lifetime again...I am quite confident. Thankful every day and always looked at the positives. I would have been half happy if we extended him to a horrible deal just because he is that great of a guy to have around.
  19. Saw Davies was their #3 prospect and just about died from laughing. That is just pathetic...poor Orioles.
  20. Can't you guys just wait? Logan Schafer EVERY DAY!
  21. Bring on Elian Herrera and Logan Schafer!!!!!
  22. Everything I am seeing about Phillips has to get one excited. "Total Stud...5 tool player...shocked Astros gave him up"
  23. I find it amazing one second we are trading for guys with service time burned up and suddenly we have 4 guys 22 or younger. What a crazy turn of events.
  24. Mets package screams Mark Attanasio.
  25. This wasn't better than the Mets offer than people are making it seem. Mike Fiers has a lot more value than you think. I prefer this one just because it is experienced prospects. Wheeler has tremendous value , but we would only get 3.5 years of him. He may not become that high ceiling player in that short time. Still a very good trade.
