  1. That article reads like basically Ortiz is saying "I can't hit a ball there so therefore neither could Ted Williams have." Which is pretty arrogant and also hilarious, really. Papi is a very good hitter but he is not even close to being in Ted Williams' category.
  2. In other news, if any missed it: Chris Young of the Royals. Wow. His dad passed away last night, today he makes his first start in 2 months, tosses 5 no hit innings before exiting to catch a plane home.
  3. Lackey vs Cravy. For any in the tank camp this would be a "must lose" game.
  4. Since it is my first season participating in bf.net I don't want to break protocol. Do we do WS predictions this far out? It's shaping up to be a very intriguing postseason.
  5. Price will get $30M a year (minimum) for eight years. Not a lot of teams can do that. Cubs, as noted, can handle that. Makes for a formidable rotation (Lester, Arrieta, Price). Chicago can throw money like that around because their position players are so cheap. The Dodgers will also be a factor, assuming Greinke becomes a free agent. And the Yankees have a ton of money coming off the books after 2016, so they could easily make a play. Toronto has an outside shot since Price seems to be enjoying his time there, and they don't have many big long term contracts outside of Tulo and Martin. My sleeper team for Price is Houston. They lack an ace, and don't have many expensive players. That's a huge market (I think 4th in the country) and should start generating a lot more cash as the team improves. He'd be a perfect guy to build a rotation around. Price is 30 years old and will have pitched 1300+ innings over the past 6 seasons. It wouldn't break my heart one bit to see chicago toss $240 million his way. As great as he is, one would expect that a decline or health issue looms.
  6. Specifically Schafer. I thought it was high time to call it quits and DFA Logan in July of 2014. What am I missing? [sarcasm]Is he M.A.'s nephew or something?[/sarcasm]
  7. I am revenously thirsty for some damned retribution via a Packers win over seattle today.
  8. Agree with several posts here. The cubs fans are, by and large, obnoxious fools, but I don't have animosity towards their current players. That said, I'd rather see the crads add another pennant to their heaping collection than see the cub fans have something to go nuts over.
  9. To me he always looks like he's crying for some reason.
  10. paul- Ever since 7/5/06 I am much more concerned that a concussion is going to be the end of the world for a player. I was at that terrific ballgame, and that was such a wild one-of-a-kind play, who would have thought at the time that it would spell the end for Corey Koskie's MLB career.
  11. That Shuckers box score is a joy to behold.
  12. sdcheez, how legit was their gripe? The Davies stat line is exciting to see. Wish I could have watched the game.
  13. I know that we play the cubs 6 out of the last 13 games of the season, and they have a 7 game lead over the Washington right now. You had better believe that I want to see the Brewers win down the stretch.
  14. I could certainly see some merit to claiming him and giving him a look. It would be fun to pick up another cub castaway 3b and have him succeed for us.
  15. I'd like to think that given the fact that he's just 25, he has better years than 2015 ahead of him. He has too much ability for Milwaukee to waste. If Arcia's talents lead to MLB production the way most of us expect, Segura at 2b makes a lot of sense to me.
  16. Lucroy has been red hot over the past 8 games. 14 of 31, 4 2b, 1 3b, 3 HR and 10 rbi.
  17. This concludes an excellent month of work for Jeremy Jeffress. He didn't allow a run or an inherited runner to score in August.
  18. It would sure be a treat to get to watch Donaldson.
  19. Another thing is that I don't hear the complaints when it comes from a pitcher. If he runs around pumping a fist or stares down a batter after a K, he gets a free pass for just being "an emotional pitcher." And I'm ok with it, too. But if a batter takes a look for 1 second on a jack before getting out of the box, that's so unsportsmanlike apparently. Double standard.
  20. 8/28/92 Milwaukee snaps a 5 game skid as the bats come alive for 22 runs on 31 hits vs Toronto at the Sky Dome. I'll always remember this as one of life's great days. I was a teenager, fishing with Dad in Vilas County, sunny day, the fish were biting, out in a boat listening to the game on the Panasonic radio. The offensive outburst gave us a glimmer of hope that we could catch the Blue Jays. For me, '92 will always be a very special, fun season. Running like Deere under Phil Garner, Yount's 3000th hit, the emergence of Eldred, a very solid rotation, and a hope at winning the division. Milwaukee did their part, winning 25 of the last 35 from this day on, but Toronto just would not let up. If only there had been a wild card at that time. This was the day the Brewers turned it on and got lots of us to want to believe. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/TOR/TOR199208280.shtml
  21. And they have followed through in a timely fashion I see. Spiffy.
  22. This was one of the many style things I didn't like about RR. Teams, especially the crads, knew they could get away with that nonsense with us without consequence. I'm not a fan of getting into senseless battles but I think you have to let your opponents know, tread on me at your own peril.
  23. I consider him my last bastion of hope for topping Bonds, at least until one of the young power hitters gets a good run of big seasons.
