  1. Brad Kuntz, LHP. A bit age ahead for his level (24) -redshirted a year at Baylor, had TJ surgery. In 20 games (48 IP) between rookie last year and Brevard this year, .94 ERA, .94 WHIP.
  2. Gotta love the espn website prejudice when checking for scores for bad teams. Brewers game not listed in MLB. Click on view all MLB, still not there.
  3. If this season plays out with Gennett establishing the ability to be consistently acceptable vs LHP, no 2b platoon necessary, that is another potentially big gain for our club's future. Taking into consideration roster and lineup flexibilities, not to mention Scooter's potential trade value, should DS go that route, I am really hoping that he's figured it out and the small sample grows into a good large sample. We shall see...
  4. I noticed that the [sarcasm]Best Fans In Baseball[/sarcasm] were celebrating the injury. Classily, of course.
  5. My favorite part of this listing was the Yankees lineup.
  6. For some reason I'd really like to know who the perpetrator is.
  7. I always root for Wah Williams to lose every game no matter what.
  8. I had to track this down. Thanks to Google I was able to make some sense of the very foggy Orosco memory. The TP dispenser injury I referred to happened to Dave Goltz in 1982. The Orosco connection is strictly of toilet troubles, from back in the 80s when Roger McDowell pranked him by opening up the door to the bullpen bathroom while Jesse took care of business. (after first getting the attention of the fans in the bleachers, no less) Funny how after 30 or so years, memories of events can get mixed up.
  9. Let's not forget phone books. Also, I seem to vaguely recall an injury to I believe Jesse Orosco when he cut his pitching hand reaching up into the TP dispenser to bring down and dispense a new roll. Anybody else have any memory of this story?
  10. Last night I was up, sick, flipping channels when I happened across the 2015 championship match from New Japan's Best Of Super Juniors , Kyle O'Reilly vs Kushida. I don't know anything about those guys, or New Japan, but I can tell you this, it was one heck of an amazing performance.
  11. Hard to follow board forum etiquette while expressing my feelings on that one. I guess the one positive of it is, very teachable moment for the young guys: better play perfect in the big games, because at crunch time, if you're Wisconsin, it's going to be 8 on 5.
  12. I heard it said "lowest scoring first half in NCAA tournament history" at least 3 times in the broadcast. Lame journalism.
  13. I thought Wisconsin played a really good game yesterday, aside from the shooting struggles. What got me is how the broadcast announcers kept harping on how it was the lowest half of scoring in NCAA tournament history. Which brings me to your 1999 reference, the year the Badgers trailed 12-21 at halftime to Missouri State in the tournament. Apparently yesterday's broadcast crew can't research back that far, but I can sure remember it well enough. I still think Calderwood was rebelling against Bennett and sabotaged the game.
  14. I was aware. He was one of several former teammates to pitch versus Gallardo for other clubs in 2015.
  15. The entire thing read like a drunken rant. I don't necessarily disagree with every notion he had, but his delivery neutered his stance. I'm waiting for some other Hall Of Famer to point out: "Hey Goose, back in my day, athletes didn't drop multiple bombs in interviews."
  16. http://espn.go.com/30for30/film?page=iamyupik It was pretty cool seeing the kids out here where I live on ESPN this weekend. If you didn't get to see it, it's worth a look. It's well done, and real, unlike any of those Alaska reality TV nonsense shows you might see.
  17. Did anyone else's computer have serious issues from viewing that fangraphs site with Farnsworth's assessments?
  18. I get that. Just have to figure that in light of the way he's gotten this team playing, the job is going to officially become his.
  19. If Gard doesn't get the job, that means Barry dislikes him and he had no chance of getting it from the get-go. I can't really imagine what more the guy could have done to earn losing the "interim" tag at this point.
  20. Personally, I'd also prefer an announcer with local ties. I think a lot of former players could get the job done, with a little training and practice. I'm not saying that doing play by play doesn't take skill, but it isn't rocket science either, especially to a former major leaguer with some personality. Whatever might be lost in a broadcast by a guy not calling something perfectly can, for me, be more than made up for in other ways. I want honest homers in the radio booth. I enjoy hearing it from a former player, and his aside stories during down time. And I enjoy it for the nostalgia of a Brewer calling a Brewers game. I don't know anyone who didn't like hearing Hamilton in the booth.
  21. From what I got to see of Barrios last year, I'm looking forward to seeing more of it in 2016.
  22. I know, right!!!? If he ends up being even halfway decent, the fans at Miller Park will love him based on name alone And of course, the obvious other possible direction....If he goes out and gets rocked, fans can call him Home Run Derby.
  23. In all honesty I would much rather see both leagues be like the NL. Obviously that will never happen. For one, the union would never allow it. In my mind, DH for the most part just enables stiffs who can't play defense to be able to still be major leaguers. Granted, Molitor almost certainly wouldn't have had nearly the career he did without it (but at least he COULD play the field well, he just was so injury prone doing so.) In any case, I will be very disappointed if and when they implement a DH in the NL. I'd bet that even a good portion of the fans calling for NL DH might one day find themselves wishing back to the good old days.
  24. I'll concur with others in that Block has improved. I won't miss him the way I missed Hughes and Powell.
