  1. Maybe he meant we are the ones who can guess who they are based on the first 3 letters of the alumni first name, since the rest is cropped by the page format.
  2. Very tardy in on this as well, but I concur with TLB, that was indeed a very compelling and worthwhile read. Interesting how mum the word is on anything that would identify any team management involvement, teams pitched to, etc. I can't help but wonder how it was taken if indeed pitch-sessioned with Sal Bando and his team. Or at the later end of it, Dean Taylor et al. Then I start to thinking about how badly we as a franchise may (or may not, I'll allow) have missed the boat. One nugget towards the end that I found fascinating: "According to one source with some exposure to AVM’s system, the company had two clients as of four to five years ago: one American League club and one National League club, each of which was paying AVM six or seven figures for league-exclusive access to its insights, including a win-value stat that the teams believed was far superior to the public alternatives." I'd have to believe that years down the road, as time has come to pass, much of the mystery behind the teams' buy-in will become known, and it will make for some very engaging hindsight analysis.
  3. My Dad still harbors a deep dislike of the Braves, and I'd imagine that's about the way it would be for me if the Brewers left Milwaukee.
  4. I doubt Cliff knows much more than the rest of us about these 3 prospects.
  5. PACKERS VICTORY!!!!!!!
  6. Hardest hit ball I ever saw in person was a double from Bonds at Miller Park. I'd say at the most it got about 10-12 feet up and blasted the wall in right center. The thing darn near looked to have a vapor trail behind it.
  7. I agree with you up to the point of his being the first class to be inducted, with no established criteria. But his persona and accomplishments were so far above and beyond anything baseball had ever seen up until that point. At the time he was inducted, he had 714 home runs, the next closest was Gehrig with 378. If somebody didn't vote for him, they must have been watching a different sport.
  8. Axford's picks are always pretty much on the money...
  9. I think there are just some who don't vote for obvious first balloters just for whatever stupid reason. http://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/First_Ballot_Hall_of_Famer Who didn't vote for Henderson? Or Johnson? Or heck, Ruth or Aaron??? Nobody's ever been unanimous. Which begs the question: If somebody didn't vote for any of these obvious hall of famers, what business do they have voting to begin with? Are they just not smart enough to fill out a ballot correctly or what?
  10. I thought Jason Kendall would get more than two votes. Sure, he didn't have the bat of Piazza, but he was no slouch. He had almost 2200 hits and that was basically all at catcher. He spent about 4,000 more innings behind the plate than did Piazza. Some Kendall career stats: Defensive games as C: 2025 (#5 all time) Putouts as C: 13019 (#2 all time) Never thought he'd get close to getting in or anything, but 2 votes?
  11. I agree with the joke on the vikes part. Green Bay can and I think likely will beat Washington. I expect Seattle to beat Minnesota. After that.... Is confidence and injury status improved enough to win at Arizona? I don't know, maybe. Can Seattle beat Carolina? Definitely. That would put the NFC championship game back in Green Bay. Anything can happen. Go Packers.
  12. The Badgers finally beat USC getting some small overdue payback from 1963, and the Packers are in the playoffs. The Pack is still elite in my book, regardless of how things have looked. Even if they fall short in the playoffs this year, easy to point to the injuries that have had a big impact. I don't see them going too far south barring an injury to #12.
  13. So true on Sexson. Sheesh, I even watched that game, but brain spit out Hart.
  14. But does it best Prince Fielder's popcorn bucket shot? Which oddly was also at Houston if I remember right. [sarcasm]Or Corey Hart's flag pole shot in Houston?[/sarcasm]
  15. Sometimes you have got to love small towns. In the town where I live, the fed ex driver also knows where many people work. And they know what you drive, too. As such, sometimes you might find your packages in your vehicle when you leave work in the evening.
  16. Looking at the box score I noticed that the somewhat forgotten former Brewer Dickie Thon's son plays for Puerto Rico. Looking further, it turns out also that Dickie's brother Frankie is the team's GM.
  17. I have to admit that a part of me is sad about this. I was interested to see what Rogers could accomplish as a full time MLB starter. He is a pretty talented hitter. Good return, though.
  18. I don't have a problem with this signing, although if we are giving him serious consideration, then my preference would have been to keep Dominguez over acquiring Middlebrooks.
  19. Signed: Jake Elmore, outfielder Alex Presley and pitcher Daniel Tillman (discussed earlier in this thread). Elmore plays anywhere on the diamond. TWEET via @BrewersPD -- They all get big league camp invites. Edited to add links -- Mass Haas
  20. Count me in the camp of "Rogers/Clark platoon." Any FA we sign this year I want to be someone who we can flip in July or sooner. I just don't see a whole lot of tremendous potential for that in this year's 1bFA class. And if not that, I'd want a FA of plus defense to help our pitchers' success and I don't care about his bat. In my armchair GM mind, that would be my approach. I just don't see a heck of a lot to be gained in a FA 1b pick up right now.
  21. I think when you consider whose fans have a higher likelihood of having a burning hatred of this trade down the road, it's Seattle. Worst case for us: these international teenagers never add value to the MLB team nor value in future trades, and Lind has an amazing first half with high value at the deadline. At least we got international prospects, and without even paying the signing bonus on them. I won't miss too much sleep over losing 1 year of a good first baseman playing on a bad team. Worst case for Seattle: Lind's 2014 season was the high water mark for both health and production. They pay $8million to have another Corey Hart on their hands. Meanwhile, one or more of these guys we received develops into a solid to excellent MLB pitcher years down the road. Mariner Fan could be stewing on this one a long time from now. Not predicting it, just saying.
  22. I found it very intriguing to read that some blame our former permed groper Peterson for messing with Bundy's mechanics and possibly contributing to/causing one or more of Bundy's injuries. Count me in the camp of Davis for Bundy is overpay. It could work out well if suddenly Bundy put it all together, but I'd put higher odds on it turning out to be nothing but a terrible, embarrassing stupid shame of a trade.
  23. Nice article dissecting and expanding on much of what is stated in this thread: http://www.brewcrewball.com/2015/12/2/9834330/brewers-trade-targets-dylan-bundy
  24. Wow, and that's best case scenario, meaning he starts 34 games per year throughout the contract. This has been a somewhat depressing four moments here.
  25. Don't forget that the teams with the most money also can buy, by money, esteem or both, the very best in everything, not just players. And positions in their organizations will always be steps up. GMs, presidents, managers, international development, minor league operations and facilities. Any small market team who is going win a championship must rely on a great organizational foundation, luck, AND being the first apt-footed surfer to capitalize on the next wrinkle or wave of paradigm shift in order to sneak another pennant from the big boys. I love baseball and I love the Brewers. Honestly, I'll be thrilled if Milwaukee wins one World Series in my lifetime.
