  1. Third time through the order was a little better than the first two.
  2. Guaranteed contract. Sometimes the motivation to put the extra work in isn't there anymore after the guy hits payday.
  3. My point was more that those fans didn't even care in 1998, one year after the WS. Once the team was stripped down after the title, that was it. People like talented competitive teams, not last place. Its about the future and plan moving forward, not yesterday.
  4. No participation trophy for me, I don't play on the team. If there were Marlins fans and they cared, they'd show up and buy tickets. They never did though.
  5. Is there anywhere in particular you recommend I buy seats? Any nearby restaurNts or bars I should visit?
  6. Its concerning to be shut out three times in ten games. This one especially was one of the worst efforts I've ever seen at the plate. I can't really think of a single hard hit ball all game.
  7. Figures. I generally give the umpire the benefit of the doubt but this one has looked pretty bad today.
  8. Is it possible that the awful off center camera angle has something to do with all these calls looking so terrible?
  9. Looks like the first time most of these guys have seen a curveball
  10. Nah I live in Vegas now. Also, I think I heard it was just a water bottle. This next weekend I'll go to my first games of the year when the Brewers head to San Diego.
  11. I mean I used to know a guy who made a significant amount of money on bobbleheads every year through going to all the bobblehead games, buying as many as he could from fans who would sell them, and then reselling online. Really it can be done with any of the fan giveaways.
  12. Agreed! Except sometimes I'm that guy. Also on a related note, if you need another beer in the 8th inning+ or while you're leaving the stadium, you can usually find an unattended beer case near a concession stand. Also, never buy anything except the cheapest terrace reserve seats, its a really easy ballpark to find open seats on the first or second level.
  13. Just looked it up on Amazon "But he doesn’t give up on professional sports. In the second half of the book, he proposes strategies to reclaim joy in fandom: rooting for players instead of teams, being a fair-weather fan, becoming an activist, and other clever solutions." Yikes, I think I'll pass on this trainwreck.
  14. If you've lived there and been a part of it, it definitely makes sense. I've never understood the people that picked their favorite team out of a hat and have never even really watched them play a home game. Always just felt like it's someone who wanted to be a contrarian.
  15. People say this but its not true. Consistency matters more than anything. Nobody cared that the Marlins won a WS when they tore it down the next year.
  16. Yeah thats a relief pitcher, and one who wasn't good last year.
  17. I mean sure, if you have the best lineup in baseball maybe. For most teams an above average hitter in the lineup everyday isn't a huge problem.
  18. If they do that, the next move will likely to be to sell or move the team. I can't imagine a trade that would look worse.
  19. I don't believe it. I don't think there has been a single season in my life where St. Louis didn't at least have a pretty good rotation.
  20. And if you are your posts will go something like "Wow I'm so happy I was wrong, this team is great". It's mentally the easy way out to be the pessimist. If they do poorly you get to say "I told you so, I'm so smart". If they do great you're happy to be wrong.
  21. I agree, let's revisit this in June. My guess is you won't be here.
  22. What Uecker says and what happens on the field are often two completely different things.
  23. For at least the last 25 years, at the beginning of the season people say Uecker is starting to lose it and will likely retire within the next couple years.
