I agree that there is never a point in having a 10th man in the bullpen and probably regardless of who it is I wouldn't trust them with any lead. Fun game today, I like seeing the Brewers hit the baseball.
This was not best time to use a garbage time long reliever. Suter should've been left in to pitch at least three innings and then I think Gustave should've been used to finish it out. Suter is a better fit as a long relief/piggy back type than a one or two inning middle reliever.
Today is an example of the downside of a ridiculous ten man bullpen. You have guys like Millner and Urena who should not be on the roster and won't pitch very often unless Counsell forces them into a game like today. Because of it, they might have to use Hader to save the game on a day when he shouldn't have to pitch.
I feel like they might have fixed replay. It's gotten to the point where you can predict the outcome of a challenge by watching the replay instead of just flipping a coin like the last few years.
It's just amazing how much different an Angel Hernandez game is compared to all other home plate umpires we've seen so far this year. The umpires of today are better than ever and most arguments are over an inch off the plate. There was one call today that might've missed 6 inches inside. You just don't see that anymore.
I mean the call on Schwarber was whatever. Pitch was maybe a quarter of an inch outside. It's just the other 15 blown strike calls throughout the game that's too much. Not a good look for baseball to get Angel behind the plate on the Sunday night game.
They have won the NL pennant three of the last five years. Sometimes the AL has a really good team too. Last year they overachieved in the postseason given that they didn't even win their own division.
Weren't they like the best team in baseball from June through the end of the season and didn't they have some early season injuries that lead to the poor start? Maybe more people should've picked them.
They'll probably find a way to be good enough to get to the postseason but winning a postseason series is different than anything in the regular season. Beating the Dodgers in a best of 5 or best of 7 seems unlikely with this lineup.
Why is it unreasonable to use a starter on short rest or a bullpen pitcher to pitch two innings in a postseason game? What's the point of limiting innings during the regular season if the guy can't pitch when you need him to?
I don't think the wiser minds running the Brewers have a WS banner yet.
That is the correct response.
And remember, pitching and defense wins. There's a reason why we're in a very successful stretch of five seasons of Brewers baseball. Teams like 2012 or 2001 hit the ball but lost a bunch of games because there was no pitching.
