  1. There has never been close to five undefeated/one loss teams in a season. I don't think he was implying that 5 teams are going to finish 16-1 or better, just that 5 are currently one loss or better and therefore it's going to be pretty competitive at the top in the NFC. Ok that makes sense. Also I don't think anyone's going to be white flagging a game no matter what. No load management in a 17 game schedule unless everything is clinched.

  3. Overall, it's like they flipped a switch at halftime of that Lions game in Week 2. It's a pretty aggressive defense that gets after the passer and can stop the run. Now cautiously optimistic.
  4. Henry Black might get cut tomorrow.
  5. They can review a clear recovery. The question is whether you can say for sure the Washington player had a clear recovery after savage failed. Which I think he did, sadly. Now that they just showed that replay, yeah I think it should be overturned.
  6. I don't know if they can overturn this. If they ruled GB had a clear recovery before the Redskins player jumped on it is that even reviewable?
  7. Given that the sliding rules state that a ball carrier is down where he starts his slide, that should not be a touchdown.
  8. Alright, a little sooner than I thought.
  9. Green Bay was due to allow a blocked kick with how terrible the protection has been this year on field goals, this one came right up the middle. Runyon should never be that high on a field goal.
  10. I don't have the numbers to look it up but that might be the first packer blocked field goal in a decade.
  11. Good old referee game manipulation, wouldn't be the NFL if the officials didn't give away first downs whenever they felt like it. It's not the worst level of football to watch for nothing.
  12. That's why you take chances in this game! 7 is more than 3
  13. More like Purdon't am I right?
  14. Those two things have little to do with each other. No college football offense is going from one of the best in the nation to one of the worst due to losing one player. The truth is probably somewhere in between. From 2014-2020, either Deshaun Watson or Trevor Lawrence started at QB in 6 of those 7 seasons. That probably accounts for a good portion of their recent success. I'm not saying it doesn't matter but great programs lose their QB to the NFL every couple of years, you don't see Alabama or Ohio St all of the sudden rank as one of the worst offenses in all of college football. There's something bigger going on there.
  15. I get the feeling that they were not the only ones. They just got caught and took the brunt of the criticism. There's so much player and coach/manager moving between teams these days, I just can't believe they were the only ones who came up with a system to steal signs.

  17. In 7 of those OTs the maximum amount of yards that could be gained was 3 yards per OT. The one play shootout overtime rule is really dumb. I get what they were thinking in theory but watching that play out was painful. Football would not be a very good sport if it was always minutes between plays. You need game flow.
  18. Part of it is how exclusive the MLB postseason is compared to others like the NBA playoffs. Only 8 of 30 are playing a series and 6 of them are division champions. Then you add in the fact that a good percentage of the games are played many months prior to the postseason. Some teams get off to slow starts and trade for better players or they get injured players back and you end up with much different teams than what you have early in the season. Is it the randomness of the postseason or the randomness of the regular season where urgency to win each individual game is much less?
  19. As if every year where half the D1-A teams are barred from the Invitational fake championship even if they go undefeated isn't a black eye for college football? One day they'll catch up to the rest of college football, professional football, and high school football and crown their first actual champion.
  20. One of the best football games I've seen in years. Love to see an option team vs a power run offense. Brings back memories of how great this sport used to be.
  21. Sorry Cool Hand Lucroy, I should have scrolled down a little further before replying to timpep. You beat me to it.
  22. He was awesome in 2018 but has a playoff ERA above 6 since then. He definitely choked big in 2019, arguably choked this year as well. That's not to say he will always choke, but recently he has, which is what you were replying to. Using 4 innings to predict future performance isn't much more of a fools errand than using 10 innings from 3 years ago. LOL, so you're using his ERA over like 3 innings spread over 3 years. Sometimes guys give up a homerun, baseball is competition between a pitcher and hitter and Freeman is pretty good. I don't think that's a choke job.
  23. We had four postseason games this year. Hader saved the first one, wouldn't have mattered which inning(s) he pitched in the other two, and gave up go ahead HR in the last game. I don't really see how leveraging him for a multi inning role would have changed the 2021 postseason results at all. I'm not saying that using him differently this year would have changed the results, only that throwing 10 innings over 7 games all scoreless in that 2018 postseason is a massive amount of value to add to that year given the importance of those games and the fact that 10 out of the 90 innings he threw that year is a significant percentage of his work and would certainly improve his season averages and metrics if included.
  24. Hader's performance & value were greater throwing 1 IP in a traditional closer's role this year than they were in his 2018-19 multi inning appearance fireman role... 2018: 55 G | 81 IP | 60 ERA- | 54 FIP- | 2.6 rWAR | 2.6 fWAR | +3.30 WPA 2019: 61 G | 75 IP | 59 ERA- | 69 FIP- | 2.8 rWAR | 2.3 fWAR | +3.15 WPA 2021: 60 G | 58 IP | 29 ERA- | 39 FIP- | 3.4 rWAR | 2.6 fWAR | +4.93 WPA I won't argue with his usage during the regular season. But if the guy is unwilling to throw more than one inning in an elimination game with a depleted pen, yeah I have a big problem with that. Agreed. For comparison's sake take a look at his 2018 postseason numbers. That is a massive amount of value added given the importance of those games and the fact that he pitched in such a high number of them.
